2.16 Stand Back - Stevie Nicks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VU-42MGKb0

Wait, what? Yeah, I had no idea until researching for this category. Listening to it now knowing - Prince's fingerprints are all over it. And I always like this song a lot. Got that Prince stuccato guitar take.

Origin of the song[edit]Nicks has often told the story of how she wrote the song. She wrote it shortly after she was married to Kim Anderson. The newlyweds were driving up to San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara when Prince's song "Little Red Corvette" came on the radio. Nicks started humming along to the melody, especially inspired by the lush synthesizers of the song, and "Stand Back" was born. They stopped and got a tape recorder and she recorded the demo in the honeymoon suite that night. Later, when Nicks went into the studio to record the song, she called Prince and told him the story of how she wrote the song to his melody. He came to the studio that night and played synthesizers on it, although his contribution is uncredited on the album. Then, she says, "he just got up and left as if the whole thing happened in a dream."[1] According to U.S. Copyright Office records, Prince is officially a co-writer of the song, even though he is only occasionally credited as such.[2]

 He is a strange fella, but not like Michael Jackson strange.

Wow, didn't know any of that. Thanks

She shoulda come back for a little B-Ball and pancakes.

On the subject of Stevie Nicks, I read recently that Christine McVie has rejoined Fleetwood Mac. I saw them a long time ago in the 80s, and I'd love to see them one more time all together again. I hope they do a tour.

I saw them in Little Rock a few months ago and though we would have loved to have seen Christie McVie the show was unbelievably good. They played for over 2 hours and Buckingham seemed to love jammin hard. Really enjoyed it.

Round 1: Growing Up and Growing Old, Diunna Greenleaf, Post-2003 female blues singer.

I'll confess, I don't know much about this lady. I was introduced to her on a San Antonio Blues Society tribute CD to Robert Johnson, with songs performed by local musicians (in Diunna's case she is originally from Houston). No link to the song yet, because I just dusted off my Spotify account. I think I have to create a playlist first and then share it out. ... and I could not find it on YouTube.

In the meantime watch what she can do with a Sly Stone cover - Do You Want Me to Stay? ... She's 200% woman, and apparently she's backed by a grade A band. Might have to move her to the goosebump category later.

hey brohans friday night just please do me a solid and put on looking glass brandy and turn it up some and then have one for the old swcer take that to teh bank brohans and good on all of you like my friends down under say mate this fritag nacht

When thinking of songs that have given me chill bumps this is the most recent that I clearly recall. My friend put this album on, and when it got to this song he turned it up, and got totally lost in the song. He suffers from PTSD, and it was a moment in time where I saw him at peace, and the song captured it and me. It was written by Hayes Carll and Guy Clark

2.21- Rivertown - Hayes Carll (chill bumps)

 Glad to hear people dig Tame Impala; they're one of my favourite bands ever. They only got 2 LP's but they're both really great.

What do you get when you combine 3 artists that each came from “out there” groups in the past? Tony Levin (King Crimson), Stevie Stevens (Billy Idol), Tony Bozzio (Zappa, Missing Persons) put together something beautiful.

2.02 -- 'Spiral' by Levin/Stevens/Bozzio, post '90 acoustic.
1.05 - Ben Folds Five - For All The Pretty People (Acoustic 1990-2014)

Some salty (NSFW) language at the beginning, but it is not really part of the song. Sorry this is the only way I could find it on YouTube. Spotify has it in all it's glory and I'll use that for my mixtape.
this link will start it at 54:12 http://youtu.be/IDB6caPWUl8?t=54m12s after all the fun
Never heard these 2 tracks before, but I dig them both.

OK, time to show two of my favorite ladies some love here.

First off, one of the best blues' voices I have ever heard:

2.22 Susan Tedeschi "Don't Think Twice" (Post 2003 female blues)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yKTAzY4KMc

This is a cover of the Dylan classic "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" which, in it's original form, is actually a blues standard sung in folk style. Tedeschi brings it back to the blues.)

I was going to use this song as an 80s soundtrack song, but his screaming in the climax of this song is too good to not use it in the screaming category.

3.02 - The Beautiful Ones - Prince (SCREAMING)

Round 2: Dixie Drug Store, Grant Lee Buffalo, Beatlesesque Song

Imagine the Beatles had spent more time hanging out in New Orleans instead of hanging out with Ravi Shankar. ... actually this song does not even begin to scratch the surface of that possibility.

Good to see Grant Lee Phillips get some love.

BTW, you still owe a round 1 pick. You have to save your babe/baby category until round 20.

See the Diunna Greenleaf pick above ... and count the ways you love the pick.

Grew up with that song. Loved it in the day. Looking back it is certainly is of its time ...but I still love it.

2.20 - The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog

Zilla's animal category

One of my favorite 10 or so songs ever

soooo good. 1969? gtfo.
Yup. Best part of the song...should have came out in the early 90s based on the sound. Killer. At the very least, sounds like a Sonic Youth song, about 25 years before they existed
Read the latest Bowie bio - they hung quite a bit.

Doesn't get much more awful than this.

Doesn't get much more fun than this.

"I Wanna Be Sedated"

Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go I wanna be sedated
Nothin' to do and no where to go-o-oh I wanna be sedated
Just get me to the airport put me on a plane
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane
I can't control my fingers I can't control my brain
Oh no no no no no
Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go....
Just put me in a wheelchair, get me on a plane
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane
I can't control my fingers I can't control my brain
Oh no no no no no
Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go I wanna be sedated
Nothin' to do and no where to go-o-o I wanna be sedated
Just put me in a wheelchair get me to the show
Hurry hurry hurry before I go loco
I can't control my fingers I can't control my toes
Oh no no no no no
Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go...
Just put me in a wheelchair...
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Joey Ramone came up with the idea for this song after he burned himself with hot water and had to be treated at a hospital. Ramone would inhale steam from a kettle before concerts to help clear his nasal passages.

The chorus, where Ramone sings about "Nothing to do" and "Nowhere to go," was inspired by their 1977-78 tour when they ended up in London around Christmas. It was their first time in the city, but it was pretty much shut down. Joey and Dee Dee stayed in their hotel and watched movies.
For Johnny Ramones guitar solo, he plays the same note 65 times in a row. Very Punk.

2.19 - Awful Lyrics - I Wanna Be Sedated

Simey> :hifive:

I am off from school this week. I was shovelling snow yesterday and then we came to the beach for the weekend. So not a lot of time to research or Google doc it up. Hope by next week, I'll be able to contribute
