MAD - Artist - Round 4 - #1's have been posted (3 Viewers)

and praying that ANY Ringo list makes it... I think Ringo being last would be a great way to end every playlist

@Zegras11 - The Lost Record by Susanna Hoffs got its official release today. It was originally recorded in 1999 in Hoffs' garage with a bunch of collaborators including Charlotte Caffey and Jane Wiedlin of Go-Go's and Jim Keltner. I haven't been able to find album credits anywhere but it seems to be less covers-heavy than her 21st century albums.

Thanks GB for the early Bday present! Good chance I would have taken Carlisle if I wasn't going to the Toxic concert. Maybe next round.

Dammit I count 11. But having heard a song doesn’t mean I know anything about the artist or production.
For some reason I went on a Max Martin deep dive lol.
While 3 of the Robyn songs are co-written with him, their careers started at roughly the same time and they have had a “beef”, but mutual respect. More on that when we start the countdown

Maybe Im nerdy when it comes to songwriters. Like script writers for movies etc.
Writer/Producers like Martin take it one step further

This is only a partial list of non number one Billboard songs you may have heard of written by Max Martin. Production is an another entirely separate list.

Backstreet Boys - Quit Playing Games With My Heart & Everybody (Backstreets Back)
Celine Dion - That’s the Way It Is
Bon Jovi - It’s My Life
Def Leppard - Unbelievable
Kelly Clarkson - Since You’ve Been Gone
A-Ha - Analogue (All I Want)
Pink - Who Knew
Apocalyptica - I Don’t Care
Adam Lambert - Whataya Want From Me
Taio Cruz - Dynamite
Usher - DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again
Jessie J - Domino
Justin Bieber - Beauty and a Beat
Pitbull - Wild Wild Love
Adele - Send My Love
Zac Brown Band with Brandi Carlile - Finish What We Started
Sam Smith - How Do You Sleep?
Lady Gaga - Stupid Love
Post Malone - Enough is Enough

Pretty much anything by Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Backstreet Boys, Ariana Grande, a lot of NSYNC, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, an album plus more with Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Lizzo

If you appreciate Pop, he is up there with Smokey Robinson, Lennon/McCartney, Dianne Warren, Carole King/Gerry Goffin, Stevie Wonder, Holland/Dozier/Holland, Prince, Ray Davies and Bacharach/David

Some of these somgwriters are fairly anonymous in the public eye, like Diane Warren and Max Martin, but their songs define eras and artists.

Rolling Stone placed him at #41 on a greatest somgwriters list a long time ago, so an update should place him higher. They added this comment “Every pop era has at least one songwriter who effortlessly taps into the zeitgeist, and for the last roughly 15 years, that person has been this Swedish writer-producer. Starting in the Nineties with the Backstreet Boy's "I Want It That Way" and Britney Spears' "…Baby One More Time," among others, Martin helped create the whooshing, hyper-energized sound of modern pop — a talent that has extended to a mind-boggling list of recent collaborations that include Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" and "Teenage Dream," Ariana Grande's "Problem," Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" and Adam Lambert's "Whataya Want from Me." "I try to make the songs as good as I can — the way I like it, you know?" Martin has said. "And I guess my taste sometimes happens to be what other people, particularly radio programmers, like, too. As you know, a lot of the stuff that was once considered rubbish or 'for kids' is now considered classic”

There was a Netflix documentary a few years ago about Swedish influences on global Pop music. I remember it being better than the other episodes of the series but they covered a lot of ground in under an hour so there wasn't enough music.

Its a good idea, thanks for it, but ive listed pretty much anything relevant to a US audience.
There is a whole slew of European artists I didnt list.
Narrowing it down to 31 might be tricky as the bugger has written hundreds of songs, most i dont know that well.
Not sure i have it in me to listen to every Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Ariana Grande album.
I will ruminate on it.
It can be done in the traditional format of MAD as well I guess as its not really a theme. Max Martin is an artist.
Batman is a theme.

Awesome. Thank you.
Considering my other choices included Abba and A-Ha, Scandanavian artists are in my mind.
Rammstein and INXS arent though lol.

Annie Lennox started out with a group called The Tourists with Dave Stewart and Peet Coombes. Coombes wrote the music and lyrics for most of their material. I guess I'm not a fan. I'vwe included one of these songs on my list (as the opener) so you can get the idea. This tune is by Stewart and Lennox. From the Middle Room It's rather pretty, but not on Spotify- it's a bonus track.

After the opener, we'll be moving on to her work with The Eurythmics and her solo stuff. I've found lots of deep tracks to go with the songs you likely know. It's not as if she's obscure.

And now on to umlauts and my next MAD selection.

Fired up the Live in Houston concert on Youtube.

I was instantly reminded of a couple of my biases - my dislike of bands with a singer that just sings, and Jonathan Cain.
You don't dislike Tool,Sabbath,Priest or Maiden .
It's a bias, and that can be over ruled when in the presence of awesomeness. I was more saying that it was yet another reason I avoided them along with the other reasons I listed.
I think the bias is stronger watching it though. Too much focus on singing and prancing and not on the guitars and drums I want to see when I watch a show like that. I've never seen any of those bands live, and the only band I can think of with a main singer I love seeing live is The National.

I watched that late night on MTV in the 80s, and again on AXS TV last year. Good stuff, but Cain doesn’t bother me. And it was a surprise to see him play rhythm guitar on Stone in Love.

Like Journey, a band I've managed to avoid. For Journey I had my reasons, for The Eagles I don't know why. I know 2-3 songs, and like them fine enough, but nothing beyond that. Maybe I've listened to the album Hotel California once, but I am not even confident in that.

Your lack of Eagles knowledge was confirmed when you said “I don’t know why” instead of “I can’t tell you why.”

Laugh emoji. So very true.

And I was being sarcastic. That many guitars in a row. (And yes I know the lyrics.)

I have very strong thoughts about this sequence in the show.

Watching the show I remember having strong negative thoughts about Perry and his yellow top back then. I had to have caught glimpses in the 80s, and wasn't one of the songs from the show a video staple. Hold on to that thought, as we will be linking another show or two at the end of the countdown. Oh, the sights we will see.

Also appearing in MTV’s Friday night concert rotation was a Triumph show. I’ll be referencing that at times in my writeups.

Both those shows were the source of the official videos of a few songs that were in regular rotation. In Journey’s case, the three big singles from Escape plus Stone in Love. In Triumph’s case … you’ll see.

Ah, that makes even more sense. I probably saw the video for Open Arms too much. Perry's shirt + school dance song was too much trauma to overcome until this year.

I see Fred Eaglesmith and the lovely Tif Ginn  released a Christmas album last December. [/ENDSUBTLEFORESHADOWING].

I don't have last five out, but speaking of Miss Ginn, here's something from her that I'll count among such five. I'm not sorry if this is the tenth time I've posted this clip.

Looks like a good list. I missed the artist cutoff but maybe that’s for the best since I doubt I’ll participate in the chat much. Life is good but too darn busy.

Here's 2 of 5, I suppose. Fred Eaglesmith from his Jazz Odyssey days.

3 of 5 ... and by the way, none of these songs sound like any from my top 31.

Mama's got a squeeze box...

Fired up the Live in Houston concert on Youtube.

I was instantly reminded of a couple of my biases - my dislike of bands with a singer that just sings, and Jonathan Cain.
I watched that late night on MTV in the 80s, and again on AXS TV last year. Good stuff, but Cain doesn’t bother me. And it was a surprise to see him play rhythm guitar on Stone in Love.
How can anyone despise a guy who plays wall keyboard?
Don't get me started on that video.

you can still name artist and get in. Just need list by Sunday AM, preferably Saturday

That's right. Lure him in. Slowly. Slowly. Don't want to spook him.
