MAD's ROUND 2!! # 1's have been posted!! (4 Viewers)

Missed the first round but I’ll jump in this one if you have me.

It’s good to see not everyone is taking relatively obscure artists but there’s s as nice mix.

I’ll be at my favorite beach on Oct 1, so I’ll go with the legend island dude himself, Mr Jimmy Buffett. I’ll do my best to stay away from his biggest hits but there will be a few songs you know by heart.

Most lists are ranked favorites, so if you like the big hits, by all means put 'em in there... Now, where did I put that salt?
Exactly, Oz. Do with your playlist what you want. It seems people are leaning more towards lesser known stuff this time around in general, so I will look forward to some well known hits sprinkled in the playlists.

i will roll with Suzy & the Band Cheez
We were speaking (somewhere) about odd act pairings. Siouxie opening for Rush was pretty jarring. They were basically booed off the stage.
Who the hell thought that was a good idea? Freaking coked-out music industry people…
Back in the 90's I went to see Counting Crows and Live. They had some comedic magician open that was getting booed and yelled at. Then some dude with dreads and wearing a bathrobe came out and said something along the lines of chill out and have a good time. Didn't know it was Duritz until the Crows came on lol.

Would've been awesome if Duritz was the comedic magician.

Jimmy was going to be my pick for round 4, so I'm looking forward to your list.

Sorry? 🤷
How many rounds are we getting here?

@Zegras11 probably didn't think it would go beyond one time, but many of us were talking about doing it again before the last one got rolling, so here we are.

My comment was tongue in cheek, though...mostly.

I have TEN other groups I kind of want to cover.

With the 87th round, I’ll take my high school garage band.

By band, I mean my Wordless sound poems

Speaking of bills that make no sense, I found this tidbit in my MAD 2 research:

Following the release of their second album, This Is the Modern World, the Jam undertook a 1978 tour of the US supporting American rock band Blue Öyster Cult. The Jam were not well received on the tour and This Is the Modern World failed to reach the Billboard 200 chart.

Here's Neko's walk up song:

I took one Jam song in the British Isles countdown and a different one in the This Is Their Best Song draft. Which will be my #1 here? I dunno yet.

will be watching this one closely, and i friggin' whiffed on not getting them, or the Modfather, in undah the wire.

🇬🇧 🛵
I suspect your top 31 Jam would look a lot different from mine, but we'll see.

i don't wanna play "spoiler" here, but i've made my feelings known over the years on what i consider to be overblown/rated songs of theirs ... the list ain't long by any stretch, but i cringe when i see them gushed over.

no "wrong" selections, tho ... just a coupla/few i will always pass on - more interested in whut makes the top 5, because these are some very deep cuts ripe for the pickin'
I suspect these are some of the songs from the latter part of their career that were huge in the UK.

Yeah, most of those will make my top 31. But in what order? We'll see.

I am pretty sure I know what my top 3 are, but everything else is in flux right now.

I struggle with one of said songs because its premise is ridiculous and I've made fun of it on these boards before. But it's so well-executed and such a cotdam earworm.

Drive-By Truckers for me

Siouxsie for me 🤷

Ok, I did the PM thing but I guess this makes it official. Let's keep it Midwest and go with a fellow Wayne County native. Michigan's own

Sufjan Stevens.

Maybe the best songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist of the 2000s.
great pick... Illinoise is just an amazing album. looking forward to this one!

I'm not sure how I'm going to approach this one. It was too difficult for me to keep up with the first, so I don't think I'll listen to every song, but instead will just check out a few from certain artists and the whole catalogs only of those I expect to love. Excited for several, but The Jam and David Berman top my list.

I would guess for those with more limited time you could check out one a week or even less and get a decent idea of what you want to explore more or what to focus on with the individual playlists. All the Sunday playlists will have the songs from the album I'm playing in full, so that would be a good one to focus on. ;)

Working on the playlist and this is going to be a real PITA to trim down to 31

That I can appreciate and relate to.

I will take Mike Shinoda, which enables me to draw from his solo work, Linkin Park, and a few others.

I hope someone other than me in this group likes this music (or comes to like it through this exercise).
I'll listen to all 31 songs in their entirety.
An open mind? Sure, but I don't have high hopes.

Hybrid Theory was like the album in HS. Everybody played that thing nonstop for like 2 years straight.
