Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (2 Viewers)

Oh dear.  I think the 426-450 segment is forcing my hand here.  It's not the Prince I really want (Little Red Corvette or Kiss), but it is a great example of one specific kind of Prince song (see also, Do Me Baby).  It's romantic as hell.  It's more sincere than International Lover (which I love for its excess).  It is, in any case, what I've described before as a five-star panty wetter and a great shower song (I don't have the balls to try it for karaoke).

Pick 5.8 (No. 434) -- Adore -- Prince

@Binky The Doormat

Just a note that this is actually song #431.  Doesn't matter for the groupings, but in case it affects anyone's cheat sheets.

5.03

We just had a fairly long conversation about this singer (& song). She's not a singer I particularly love. So, I'm a hypocrite - who knew? In any case, she nails it here and Chic lays down a fantastic groove. I love the stuttered intro.

#385: "I'm Coming Out" - Diana Ross

Fred Wesley with one of the great trombone solos in Pop music

Stevie J liked the intro too.

5.05 - Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way  (#401)

There are three Fleetwood Mac songs in the 500 but this is the only one by Lindsey Buckingham.

His new solo album is very good if you like Lindsey. Warning to @Ilov80s, it's self-titled after almost fifty years in the business.  There's no sign of the vocal cord damage he talked about after his heart surgery a couple of years ago.  He's certainly capable of studio trickery to disguise any shortcomings.

All the Prince picks are great.  This is definitely in contention for my favorite of the ones listed here (kind of a three-horse race for me).  I took 1999 over Purple Rain in the 80s album draft and I'd do it again.
I am with you. I just took 1999 in the most recent half decade draft.

5.09:  Paranoid - Black Sabbath (#339)

this one prevents me from taking another I love ...but I faced with the same choice in a lot of these tiers.

meanwhile there are already a whole buncha dead looking sets of 25 out out there for me

I’m not really a heavy metal, hard rock guy but this song is elite. As a kid I bought the album for Ironman and after 1 spin it was evident Paranoid was the best hard rock/metal song I’d ever heard. Probably still is.

+1 on all the "Paranoid" love.  Super-upper-tier-elite.

The fastest day of the draft has coincided with my busiest workday, so please double-check my work for your picks to ensure I haven't accidentally Angry-Red-Shaded the wrong groupings for you or anything.  :thanks:

yeah. that was the song I had "planned" to take instead of the Smiths.

but yeah- I'm a big fan of How Soon is Now, definitely prefer it to Paranoid, but I might be scrambling.
I put How Soon is Now in a similar category of song that instantly blew me away. A song so good, I had to instantly hear it again and again.

Yeah it looks like Paranoid is showing up under Binky this round and not in my pick that I haven’t made yet. Please fix at your earliest convenience. Thanks.

Paranoid was Sabbaths first single but originally wasn't even on the album. The record company said the album was too short so they wrote this as a filler to make them happy . The first time Ozzy saw the lyrics was right before they recorded it. He sang them as he read them from a piece of paper that Geezer handed him.

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE WORST PICK EVER

5- Jeff Buckley- Grace (1994) #394

big fan of the album, although there are other songs I've talked about liking more. This was always in my plans.... I'm back on track, baby!

If the song had been "Last Goodbye," I would have taken it before you got to it.  I love "Grace" too, though.

I’ve got 10 different songs in 10 different groupings that I want to take here and I’ll be bummed if any get taken before I can pick them in future rounds. This draft is set up to piss us all off due to the finite list. Thanks Krista!
I’m probably overthinking things like I normally do, but going with the grouping I have the least viable other options in. Yo Mama selects:

#395 - Planet Rock - Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force

No other song (maybe Herbie Hancock’s Rockit) will make me awkwardly pop and lock like this one. Whether at a wedding reception, washing the dishes, on a long car drive, coaching my daughters softball team - I can’t resist it’s incredible powers.

My playlist just got 139% more fun.

Like Planet Rock, we just don't stop
We're gonna drive you nuts
Don't touch that radio
Don't touch that radio
Don't touch that knoooob

The song I will sing along to the most while knowing the least amount of lyrics of any song.
I will say that listening to Kenny L's version makes it easier to suss out the lyrics. Delivered much more straightforwardly ... but with far, far less soul.
