Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (2 Viewers)

I spose......but when I look at what I have left to choose from doesn't get me excited in the least
That’s where the strategy comes in - picking from your weaker groups early so you hopefully don’t get stuck with too many bad options (although I’m sure my last 2-3 picks will be crappy anyway).

this was another tune blasting out of a car radio outside my pad the other day... it's legit. I would've been very happy to take it a bunch of rounds ago.

and Coldplay- I genuinely like their first couple records, still listen to a bunch of tracks off both. but I'm flummoxed RS didn't pick one of their earlier hits like The Scientist (or why not Yellow) instead of whatever drivel that tune is.
I like "Fix You" .

it's a great slow build. It's also the most classic entrance music in the NHL.

I guess I just have a fairly small group of angry reds. I haven’t picked all songs I listen to regularly, but I haven’t picked a song that I don’t enjoy on some level yet. And it’s looking like I have a decent chance of making it through the entire draft that way.

I had a group of songs across different blocks that, based on the people drafting, I was banking would make it to me... all songs that I genuinely like, but aren't necessarily street cred cool. You singlehandedly decimated that group of songs.

I get liking the “feel the light in your face” bit of Fix You. But it does take seemingly forever to get there. And any band is going to pay a penalty with me for being Goop adjacent.

I will always associate "Fix You" with the documentary "Young@Heart" about this choir of senior citizens.  This one guy absolutely crushes this song in tribute to another choir guy who had just died.  It's pretty awesome.

just listened to Fix You.

I was thinking of a completely different tune. agree with Scoob- it's not terrible and the Lights Will whatever part is lovely and iconic.

so- while completely off base on my previous comment, it's still a pretty throw-away tune compared to a lot of their other, earlier tunes IMO.

I def watched some of the sections dwindle and then I just wrote em off

One of our fantasy owners and his wife just died of Covid.  Guess who didn't get a shot?  He's been in the league for about thirty years.  How do you kick the a$$ of a dead person?  Sorry about bringing this here.  We're really upset, and I just didn't know where else to put this.

Best of what's left for me to choose from.

The Doors- Light My Fire

Back to the beach! Skip me until further notice
I don't know what it was about being in high school in the late '80s ... but it seemed like every guy in my orbit went through a Doors phase. Similar to the college Bob Marley phase discussed many pages back.

I'm sorry for your loss, Mrs. R.  😪

I'm going to lunch/shingles and flu vaccines/errands. Skip me if my turn comes up before I check back into this thread.
I usually wait-a-bit to get my flu vaccine.. They only last about 3 months and if I'd get one now i wouldn't make it through the toughest part of Winter. Food for thought

I will forever associate "Fix You" with this fantastic Youtube video.

This is the single most memorable sports moment that I witnessed in-person, in the most epic game I've ever attended live....in the middle of OT #1 in what would become double OT playoff win against the Flyers.  Listen to that crowd explode.

In retrospect, we really shouldn't have been cheering that hard at what is obviously a head injury.  But you can't understate how fired up that entire crowd was at that moment.

To quote the great Jim Lorentz:  "Now that was Umberger, he had his head down, bigtime.  And Brian Campbell ran over him, like a Greyhound bus."  That quote interspersed with Chris Martin's vocals.  Chef's kiss.

It actually lasts about six months.  The recommendation is to get it at about the end of October.

I mean yea, it's historic.......I'm just not at home spinnin Lil richard albums.

This draft has been very entertaining but I'm ready for it to end......it's like drafting that 4th string RB in 20th round
Have you watched old videos of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis?  They are awesome, groundbreaking performances  that really set the stage for the next 50 years of live music.  They took what Elvis did  And morphed it in to real rock and roll

OK, I'll fall on this grenade.  This is one of those sing-a-long songs that the Hold Steady thinks will be our saviors.  I can report based on recent experience (this week) that singing along to it with your pre-schooler in Starbucks is a great way to mortify the middle school girls who are making you wait an eternity for your drink because they've all ordered Frappacinnos.

16.18 (No. 457) -- Livin' On A Prayer -- Bon Jovi

16.19: "School's Out", Alice Cooper (293)

Once "In The Air Tonight" was taken from this group, "School's Out" was the last top song standing for me. Very glad it lasted. Still have good memories of singing this under our breaths in elementary school with one of the class "bad kids" -- bad because, e.g., he was in third grade, into Cheech & Chong, and knew the references.

Well let’s see here. There’s the whiny Coldplay song that the wife loves- no ####### way am I selecting a Coldplay song. Then there’s that Eric Church tune about Springsteen- so lame. I kinda like the Cardi B thing, but there’s also a minor disco classic. Screw it give me the minor disco classic.

Sylvester “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)”

that video is 40 years ahead of "Drag Race"

Mrs. Rannous is correct. Usually good for about 6 months.

Most years my employer has someone come to the office and give them to those who want them. This year that happened to coincide with the day I had my colonoscopy -- which was last month.

I got my flu/shingles/pneumonia shots all on the same day a couple of weeks ago. One of them knocked me back some the next day (similar to my 2nd COVID shot). I'm guessing it was the shingles shot, but it could have been a combination of all of those. I got two in one arm and the 3rd in another - lifting my arms was a little rough, too, the next day.

Wasn't there some famous Rolling Stone cover in the 80s that declared Jim was "He' Hot, He's Sexy and He's Dead" based on the resurgence of The Doors popularity.

yikes, man.

we weren't anti-vax at all with our kids... but we did want them spaced out as opposed to the recommended "you're here and the kid's crying anyways, let's pump them full of this stuff until they explode". but my kids are useless morons, so dunno- maybe should've just gone the xplode route.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking when I scheduled about anything other than crossing a bunch off of my to-do list at once. I did ask before I got the shots if I should spread them out. The sadist that administered them to me said "nah, you'll be fine other than a little sore tomorrow". She got me good.

I was gonna grab this if it came back......looking super dreary.....I tried listening to a few choices and I have zero clue as to how the house music anthem made this list.....it's horrible

I genuinely like it- brings me right back to my happy youth club days (cue Binky meme)- and IIRC it's actually people playing instruments as opposed to press play, turn auto-tune on and go.

if you want to organize a trade for that one and IIRC my RHCP tune from the same block, I'm open.

I'm heading out of town for a long weekend again. Leaving in an hour. I can be on auto skip will try to check in depending on reception and sobriety though
