Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (1 Viewer)

Friday Night Bonus Categories

  1. Soup Draft.  Pasta y fagioli is off the board.
  2. Pick a song that's not in the RS 500 by an artist who doesn't appear in the list either

1. Potato Leek

2. Runaway by Del Shannon, can't believe that didn't make the 500

Round 9(?)

Only a couple songs left in this group and I like this one the best. I like this song and think I took it in the last draft but probably doesn't belong on this list.

The Breeders- Cannonball (489)
If Creep and Loser are here, then this should be too. It was just as ubiquitous as those in the same scene/era, and it's better than them.

ETA: It is probably my fourth favorite in its bloc, after Welcome to the Jungle, Oye Como Va and So What.

It was o.k. - seems like it should have been better given the Copeland / Clarke combo. I liked it just as a Copeland drumming fix, most of the songs were meh. He's done several other "super group" attempts - like right now he's got one going with Mark King, Adrian Belew, and a couple others. Haven't had a chance to check that one out yet, but previous combos have been similarly underwhelming.

Bottom line is - he's not Sting when it comes to song writing. Those 3 really were at their absolute best when they were together and haven't really approached those heights apart.

I went back and listened to both Animal Logic albums during the pandemic. I think I liked the second one better but neither has aged particularly well.  Deborah Holland is still putting out music.

Is that wrong? Should we have not done that? I tell you we gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to us at all when we first started filming that that sort of thing was frowned upon...

What kind of soup? I had tomato basil soup for dinner.

OK, stew/soup is cooking so I'm back for a bit.  I'll catch up and update the sheets.

Shrimp, white bean, spinach thingie.

ETA:  I love tomato basil!

A few more candidates:

Soothe Me -- Sam & Dave (Soul is well represented, but I just love this song)

Scenario -- Tribe Called Quest

I've already mentioned Maybe I'm Amazed and Let It Whip.

Honorable mention to Closing TIme by Semisonic because I sang along lustily to it today in the car.

I know it was mentioned that hair metal and glam seemed underrepresented. Any other genres, eras, etc that you noticed for not being given a fair shake on the RS500?

Trip Hop

It's a very USA-centric list. Genres that were bigger in the UK like Shoegaze and Britpop are overlooked.

went to the Dr for a sinus infection

sorry simey, when I traveled I averaged 3-4 sinus infections a year - miserable.  I am convinced it was the air pressure and crappy air in the planes that caused it.  I have only had a couple in the 8 years I have been retired.

Sinus infections are the pits.
