Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (2 Viewers)

I'm going to assume the reason this song is still hanging around is that other people like me can't get that scene from The Replacements out of their head when they hear it.

12.08 - I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor (#251)
my first school dance.

too scared to ask Jill... Wapner? that can't possibly be her name... to the dance floor. somebody had snuck a bottle of leftover manischewitz in, prompting my friend Alex to over imbibe and act like a fool... but also take the dance with ms wapner.

I danced briefly with @Eephus and my mutual SF friend... until 8th grader Kevin bust in with some smoooooth moves that she couldn't resist. tbf- my moves consisted mostly of walking in circle not looking at her, roughly in the beat and maybe nodding my head.

eta:   that came out a little off. No. I didn't dance briefly with eephus. if only... if only. I danced with our mutual friend.

There's one obvious pick in this rack for me, but I've taken it in about 600 previous drafts so I'll let someone else have the pleasure. Plus, I need some more white people in my playlist.

There are two songs I immediately think of when this singer's name is mentioned. One, I think, has been taken already. The other is this torqued-up piece of faux-mysticism. I have no idea what she's singing about if it's not puberty and I don't care. Nor do I care that it sounds as if, instead on vinyl, they used cocaine to etch it into. That ####### guitar and Stevie's space cadet vocals get me every time.

#217: "Edge Of Seventeen" - Stevie Nicks

@Ilov80s - go!

love this song.

wait... it's not a coming of age song? I admit I never exactly read the lyrics, but just assumed...

I'm here. Give me a sec to recover from all of the pearl-clutching the last couple of pages. If 80s is primed to go, he doesn't have to wait on me.

krista has neither the time, or the inclination, to explain herself to a fellow internet music song drafter, who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that she as moderator provides - and then questions the manner, in which she provides it??

YOU WANT KRISTA ON THAT WALL!!!

WE NEED KRISTA ON THAT WALL!!!

Was hoping this would make it back to me

I need a man who'll take a chance
On a love that burns hot enough to last
So when the night falls
My lonely heart calls

Oh, I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Yeah, I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me

It's about the deaths of John Lennon and her uncle.  The deaths happened very close in time to one another.  The title of the song she got from Tom Petty's ex wife telling her that her and Tom met around the age of seventeen. Nicks thought she said the edge of seventeen.  She was going to write a song about the relationship of Tom and his wife, but scrapped it for a song about Lennon and her Uncle, but kept the title anyway. The song really has nothing to do with the title.

Round 12

209 The Boys of Summer by Don Henley

No matter how much people might dislike Henley or The Eagles, they need to acknowledge the greatness of this song. The perfect summer to late summer vibes and The Big Chill like examination of what happened to the 60s youth movement after it reached 80s adulthood come together for perfection. It may only have a 3-4 month lifespan each year but that makes it more enjoyable for me. I look forward to playing it again in May. Once that first 75 and sunny day comes, the windows are going down and this song is getting cranked. It’s electric feeling summer coming on. Then as summer ends and fall eases in, one can focus in on the loss- knowing summer is gone, the song is gone, our youth is gone and with it so much of us.

Don’t look back, you can never look back.

I forgot to add about Edge of Seventeen, that white doves are a symbol of peace, and that is how she viewed Lennon.

Thanks for drafting this. I was getting perilously close to picking it.

Cool never knew that. I like it even more now. I thought it was about an older woman who was in love with a 16-17 year old boy.

@the moops, by popular demand, we are awaiting your make-up picks before proceeding.  I know you said you had a couple of hours of work to do first, but please let us know if you think your picks will slip further into the afternoon or evening.  In that case, we might move along again.  Thanks!

ETA:  You owe four.

searching my list now

OK - phew. Drank way too much tequilla, ate too much pot, stayed up way too late, crashed my bike too often, and slept like #### all weekend. But it was awesome! Went for a 10PM cruise on the trails one night, fully decked out with plenty of lights - and we stumbled upon a giant black bear in a tree, about 8 feet up and 10 feet off the trail. 😱

9.15 Never Tear Us Apart - INXS(282)
10.11 Rocket Man - Elton John (149)
11.15 What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong (171)
12.11 Idioteque - Radiohead (48)

Well, your name from here on out is "landry's hat, jr"

Glad you had fun before ruining my draft, though

Fantastic stuff.  The weekend, I mean, not the picks.  The picks snipe me too much.

I'll catch up on putting these in the spreadsheet.

@landrys hat You may resume ruining everything for Uruk and me.

While we're waiting on 80s to ruin my life, is it just a regional thing or do you guys have to deal with stink bugs invading everything you own?
