I agree with not choosing Portis, if only because the #1 RB at any point of the season is always the popular/obvious choice. It's not wrong but it would be boring.
How could you say that choosing the #1 RB at this point would be boring.
FF players picking up the paper and seeing that someone wrote "hey guys the best player is the #1 RB" aren't going to be impressed.
They won't be impressed because it i the obvious choice. They will be less impressed if you go with a QB just to be different.

FWIW, Portis was taken anywhere from the 7th-11th RB in most leagues, when Brees without question was maybe 4th at worst (#1 Brady, #2 Peyt, #3 Romo)??Portis was a late 1st round pick to early 2nd round pick so anyone who had a late pick got great value out of him thus far. Obviously Brees was chosing after Portis in probably 95% of all leagues, but he was an elite player at his position when drafted in August.

MVP - Phillip Rivers - Great value this year & has thrown a TD each week

Biggest Bust (non-season-ending injury...ie don't want guys like Brady here) - Tied - Ryan Grant & Larry Johsnon

Most Improved - Roddy White

Best Value - Phillip Rivers
