**Official** 2009 Dallas Cowboys Thread (1 Viewer)

We're finally moving closer towards the Cowboys selection. Just wanted to take this opportunity to inform you that I will be posting their selection even before the commissioner knows or gathers up the ticket indicating such. I'm on it. :lmao:
Well, we can all get the same info too, so na na na boo boo![/syrus]:lmao:Where is that tool? Did he finally get the boot?
Good one. A {tool} indeed. He wore out his welcome long ago.And hey, I was just trying to help out those "out of reach."But ya, that's funny. I do have a sense of humor. :lmao: {That guy} was a major tool.

The Cowboys got a 3rd and a 4th from Buffalo for that trade.

They're going to trade back up into the 2nd with one of their 5th's picks.

For who would you trade up for? Moore just went. BAD BAD move. I guess there's still Beatty and Smith but Levitre went at our old pick and of course the Duke.

Not happy. I was really pissed when Chung went to New England. I thought for sure he would be there for us. I think the war room did as well.

I don't know what the hell they are thinking. It seems that they are trying to get cute. Best I can recall, the last time they did that was when they passed on Stephen Jackson and later selected Julius Jones. Not a time to be trying to get cute here.

Why trade down for more picks? We have too many picks as it is. There aren't 12 guys that are going to make this team, especially not 12 guys with 3rd or later round grade.

This day is over. They're working the phones but to no avail.

Looks like it's on to tomorrow to me. They're saving money but not gaining anything if you ask me.

I had a better draft than dallas and I didnt make any picks either. Atleast I had 15 coronas, top that dallas!!

What's his name reported that Dallas traded down because there was noone left on their board at several positions including safety available at their pick. Uhhh?

Like some have said Im not gonna panic yet, just keep thinkin of Felix, Tashard, Martellus, Orlando, etc. Should be interesting tomorrow.

After drinking a couple of beers I have finally cleared my head and surprisingly I am optimistic about tomorrow.

Dorrell Scott

Rashad Johnson

Duke Robinson

Lawrence Sidbury

Jason Williams

are just some of the good players available tommorow. And you better believe that Jerry will be wheeling and dealing to get as many as possible on the list.

Inexcusable.
I dont think its inexcusable. Dallas had a list of prospects rated for the second round and when all the prospects were drafted they opted to trade down. Whats wrong with that strategy? What does Dallas gain by drafting a player they have rated as a 3rd round talent in the 2nd round? Why overpay when you dont have to? Dallas has actually been good at mid round picks i.e. Witten, Barber, Choice, etc. I would rather have more ammunition tommorrow and get more bang for your buck. While ESPN will rip the decision because it isnt sexy its good business.

I suppose. If you watched Jerry's press conference, one gets the impression he's really excited about selecting some guys to be backup and special teams players tomorrow. Which I think is great because all of the starting positions are pretty-much settled.

Man i would be lying if I didnt initially feel disappointed. I have had this day circled on my calender since halftime of the Eagles debacle. I waited 5 hours and then when it came time for Dallas I found it would be another day. It sucks but I have a feeling this may have been the right decision.

After signing Gerald Sensabaugh, we're now $10,881,277 under the cap. Sensabaugh signed for one year, $1.75 million. He got a $1 million signing bonus, a $650,000 base salary and a $100,000 workout bonus.Orlando Scandrick is now the last player in our Top 51. His base salary is $385,000, which means that if we sign someone with a cap number higher than Scandrick's $431,250, our cap room would be reduced by $385,000 less than the new player's cap number (Scandrick's base salary would drop off our cap). After Scandrick, the next 10 guys all have a base salary of $460,000, so signing more players would have even less of an impact on our cap (the new player's cap number, minus $460,000). It also means we could sign as many "minimum salary benefit" guys -- such as Matt Stewart -- as we want, without affecting our cap at all.
Maybe this post is the reason why we traded down. I'm going to give you full credit BG. I will say that I am glad we did not draft a WR with today's pick. I said earlier if that was the plan then I'd rather trade the damn pick. JJ listened to me!!!

Since the Cowboys have so much cap space and no high $$$ rookies, do you guys think they'd have any interest in Leroy Hill, now that he's a FA?

Too bad he's not a safety....

Last night really took the wind out of my sails.

As so many refer to the draft as Christmas, this morning is like waking up to see what's left underneath the tree.

Safety is still an option with Alabama's Rashad Johnson or Marshall's C.J. Spillman, maybe Clemson's Mike Hamlin, so is the defensive line (San Jose State's Jarron Gilbert) and pass rusher (Richmond's Lawrence Sidbury). They'll be drafting a quarterback at some point today, maybe Rhett Bomar, Graham Harrell, Rudy Carpenter or Stephen McGee.

Jerry Jones hinted they would not be in the offensive line market because they want to look at the younger backups like Doug Free and Pat McQuistan.

Not sure what to think of that. I haven't had enough coffee yet.

I'm not sure if the rookie salary pool plays into that.

While I wasn't thrilled with trading down, I'm not ready to pass judgement until the end of the day. There are still tons of solid prospects left.

Sidbury/Robinson/Williams are names to watch for.

Move some picks and make sure to draft the players they want. Package some picks for extra picks next year.

You can get future starters, pro bowl and hall of fame players in the later rounds. Not like it hasn't ever been done.

With these two early 3rd round picks I'll say they look at a couple of players along these lines.

S Rashad Johnson

DE Jarron Gilbert

ETA: I think there are a number of LBs that will still be there at pick #101.

And speaking of Gilbert, has anyone seen this clip of him jumping out of a pool? Impressive. Talk about explosion coming off the line...

I would be totally fine with Rashad Johnson. I hope they wait until the second pick (Of the 3rd) to do it.

Getting back to the Bears having nearly a mirror image of the same needs as Dallas and not having a first-round pick, they also traded out of the second round yesterday. This selection of their's coming up will also be the first of the draft for them.

Any idea on who/what they're targeting at this point? One of the safeties is my only guess, no?
Right. Because SS Moore wasn't good enough.Jeebus.
For a skeptic like me who has pointed out before that this is Jerruh's first draft after a good drafting stretch without the benefit of Parcells, Ireland or (last year) Ireland's preliminary player evaluations before he departed for the Dolphins, the trade down smacks of indecisiveness, especially when the Cowboys already had so many second day picks before the trade. We'll see how the day plays out. Don't dismiss me, BTW, as a troll because I'm not being that. I'll praise good picks if I see them, but I'm just going on record with what I suspect is the problem in the Cowboys draft room.

Ya, I actually wanted to flip those two.

The next couple of rounds are $$$ rounds if the Cowboys are on the ball scouting players and know how to fit guys to their offensive/defensive systems. I don't expect all or even a majority of the 12 picks to make much of an impact, but the Cowboys with competent player evaluation and drafting should still be able get a handful of guys who can contribute, and not just on special teams.
