**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (1 Viewer)

Anyone feel like doing a little armchair managing with me? I don't get this at all.

Top 10, Boston @ Cleveland, game tied 4-4. Two out, nobody on base, Big Papi coming to the plate. He already has a HR tonight, and nobody else in the lineup is doing anything. Why in the world doesn't he get four wide ones? He's not gonna be removed for a pinch-runner in an extra-inning, tie game. David Ross, he of the .162 average is on deck, and even a double may not score Ortiz from 1st base. Ross will not be pinch-hit for, as Pierzynski has already been ejected from the game. There's nothing but downside to pitching to Ortiz. They were lucky to keep him in the park.... he singled on an absolute bullet, and sure enough, Ross struck out.

Am I nuts for suggesting they walk him in that spot?

probably figured that Papi would call them out in the media for breaking the unwritten rule of never intentionally walking someone in the 10th inning of a tie game.

I'm loving all the Don Zimmer stories on sports radio today. What a life.
Vin Scully told one last night during the Dodgers broadcast. I heard it on local radio this morning. Scully was in the dugout being incognito and wearing a Dodgers' uniform during a game for some reason. Zimmer was managing the Cubs. He had the 3rd base coach toss a ball with a note on it to Scully that said, "If a fight breaks out, I want you." Scully looked over to the Cubs' dugout and they were all yucking it up.

Scully told this story without missing any of the play by play too. Great piece of audio.

Maddon talking about him after the game and getting choked up was moving too. Zim touched a lot of lives.

Little segment in the Phillies broadcast where the do notes from around the league.

Their note is "Johan Santana suffers setback." Yeah, I'll say.

Poor Johan Santana, he's had a rough run the past few years.
I almost ran him over with my car a few years back.

Had just moved to Minneapolis and had no job, so found a gig tutoring super wealthy kids in ACT/SAT math. This one kid lived out on Golden Valley, and Johan lived next door. I drove by their house and his super hot wife was in the front yard. I was staring like anyone would and looked forward at the last minute as Johan was walking around his car parked on the street.

Missed him by like 2 feet.

Elvis Andrus has a 38 game hitting streak against Cleveland.

He has never played a game against them without getting a hit.

You may or may not have heard of Houston Astros minor leaguer Domingo Santana, and that’s okay because you’re not alone. Santana is currently hitting .297/.374/.493 with 9 home runs and 37 RBI with the Astros Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City RedHawks. This is just one year after Santana hit 25 home runs as a 20-year old. So what’s so important about Santana besides his potential for the Astros?Maybe the fact that he isn’t necessarily supposed to be with them. Santana was acquired by Houston in the 2011 trade that sent Hunter Pence to Philadelphia, and in return the Astros acquired Jarred Cosart, Jon Singleton (who was recently called up), and a player to be named. Jose De Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle recently noted that the Phillies accidentally put Santana on that list of players to be named, a move that slipped past GM Ruben Amaro.

Less than two months after they picked George Springer from the University of Connecticut, the Astros sent Pence and cash to the Phillies on July 29, 2011, for Cosart, Singleton, Zeid and a player to be named, which ended up being Santana. In spring training, a Phillies official admitted that Santana wasn’t actually supposed to be on the list that was given to the Astros to pick from to satisfy the final piece on Aug. 15, 2011.

So whatever the reason was that Santana slipped through the cracks of the Phillies, and now is a key member to the Houston Astros minor league and eventually, major league roster. It’s sad for Phillies fans who no longer have Pence, Singleton, Cosart, or Santana, and it could open the eyes for teams who trade away a big minor league haul in return for veteran rentals.

Not sure how that could "slip past" me if I were a GM. Really?
I've been as critical of Amaro Jr. as anyone but somebody else in the organization is probably responsible for that mistake. I suppose it doesn't matter because it happened on the GM's watch and there are plenty of other obvious reasons for his eventual firing.

The entire ### #### front office should be fired and replaced with people who have a ####### clue.

This just happened in Colorado.

WTF is he smoking??? Soriano wouldn't swing at that!

ETA: Almost as funny is what is not shown; how he got to 2 strikes. He took a fastball that split the plate in half, then he took a slow curve which had a "HIT ME" sign on it. Then he swings at a 52-foot pitch. :loco:

Morales to the Twins.

Not sure what to think.

Gotta be hitting clean up as soon as he is ready, but. The Twins?

Sorry. I was all ready for the Yanks or Rangers. This is disappointing.

Baseball is a weird game, Suzyn!

Rockies backup catcher Michael McKenry, owner of a .225 career average, is now 5 for 7 against Greinke.

Of course, everyone is hitting Greinke lately. And he's muttering to himself on the mound again. Another nervous breakdown coming, IMO.

Think of how disappointing it must be to Morales
