I wonder what sabermetric, spray chart told Buck to have the 2nd baseman position himself about 6 feet on the 1st base side of 2nd base in the 9th.

Dude's been spraying singles to right his whole ### ####ed career.

At least someone appreciates the historical significance of this evening.

Kevin Gausman ‏@KevinGausman

So I got to start against the Yankees on Jeters last home game, that's pretty incredible!! Just honored and humbled to be part of this!
:suds:
Had Gausman starting on my fantasy team. Want me to tweet about it?

Meek's fastball velocity in Sept has been 91. First pitch he throws is 86, up and on the outer half of the plate, with the defense shading him to pull, to one of the greatest inside-out other way hitters ever. Not to mention Nick Markakis, the guy with a plus-plus arm, rolls one into home plate.

Buck's awesome.

Arguing with a friend about whether moving up two spots in the draft is a big deal. He says the Rangers should tank to try to get the top pick, I think since the talent level is so high among the top 3 picks, it's really not that big a difference. He points to the extra money Rangers would get to spend in the draft, but I contend that since that money is more of a cap than a budget, it's not as if the top player is automatically worth $2 million more than the 3rd pick (and so on down the line).

Thoughts?

I think it really depends on the player. Consensus is that lightning struck twice for the Nationals having Strasburg and Harper available when they picked #1. Those guys were worth tanking for. But usually the MLB draft is such a crapshoot that I don't think it really helps you to tank.

The Mariners crapping away Stephen Strasburg by sweeping the final weekend of the '08 season is a bizarre story. It's really weird that MLB teams don't tank- the Mariners put out their best lineup that whole weekend I believe instead of using a bunch of AAA expanded roster guys to lock up Strasburg. Imagine that team with him in the rotation with Felix and Iwakuma (and without Ackley who they took at #2, but that's no big loss).

None. But tanking? Losing intentionally? Just seems so NBA.

Gibson and Trammell gone. OK, DBacks, let's rally around the ol' Grit-Master and sweep those ####### Redbirds! Do it for Gibby!!!@@#$%

Royals definitely did not get the wrong end of the Shields/Myers deal
Is Myers another Ben Grieve?
I think it's too early to say, But TB has years of Odorizzi left, and KC has mere weeks of Shields.

Wade Davis has also been pretty amazing.
The value to the fans of the franchise finally making the playoffs after 29 years justifies giving up Myers. Putting Shields at the front of the rotation changed everything. There was a lot less pressure on guys like Ventura and Duffy - IMO they don't develop like they have without Shields around. The Wade Davis thing is bizarre. They insisted on getting him in the Shields deal because they thought Davis would anchor the back of the rotation and eat some innings. He was horrible at that. They tried him in the 8th inning because nothing else with him was working, and suddenly Davis is unhittable when he's not trying to save some juice for later innings. So then he locks up the 8th and then they find Herrera can get guys out in the 7th.

They don't have enough hitting to take any AL playoff team in a 7-game series, but the defense and bullpen is strong enough to make a 5-game series interesting.

Another blown call at the plate last night in the Dodgers game. Cuddyer seemingly knocks in a run, but called out on a bang bang play at the plate, which is fine. But with replay, the runner was (barely) safe. Even Vin Scully said he was safe. The umpires review...and say the call stands. WTF. Just terrible.

Yea that's a win-win trade for both teams if I ever saw one.
I doubt either team regrets the deal. When it was made, most of the Royals fans I know agreed if the Royals made the playoffs with Shields, giving up Myers was worth it. And at the time, the Royals were struggling to develop starting pitching but had other corner outfielders they liked a lot. Royals attendance spiked this year, largely because of the pennant race. They drew 1.95 MM at the gate; the last time their season attendance was that high, George Brett and Bret Saberhagen were still on the roster.

Yeah well almost no one felt this way two years ago.

Go here and read the two or so pages discussing the trade. There were very few of us who DIDN'T think the Royals got raped.

Again, this is why you have to wait until these things work themselves out. Royals got exactly what they wanted out of this deal, and probably more.

Clayton Kershaw and his wife are with child! OMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMOGMGOMGOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOMG!!!!!!!!!

Cueto 107 pitches in. Let him bat in the 8th with a runner on third and 2 outs.

So of course he laces one to center and drives in the run.
