**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (2 Viewers)

So, looking at accuweather...gotta be no baseball tonight in New York, probably Philly too, and maybe Baltimore. Looks like the system could be out of Baltimore and maybe Philly in time to start the game in the 8 or 9 o clock range, but then they're starting a game late on a weekday night in awful conditions - 40, very windy, and still some rain. Financially, probably better off cancelling, rescheduling, and hoping for better weather then. Attendance can't be looking good tonight.

Any locals got any extra info?
No way there will be baseball in Baltimore, it's a downpour here and supposed to last until early evening.

I must have baseball on the brain as I just sent an email with 'basis' spelled as 'bases'

:bag:

Joseph Bats would rather be anywhere other than Minnesota right now. He's got ten layers of clothing on and just let PHIL HUGHES strike him out on three straight pitches.

UPDATE: He doesn't feel much like playing the outfield, either. Just turned a routine single into a triple because bending over proved too challenging. Shockingly, that runner then scored.

Nanook of the North

Just smoked a double.

Todd Frazier is good or streaky?
yes.
Hmmm that's what I thought

I kinda like Frazier for a bit of a breakout year. He's got the power, and some fairly minor improvements in plate discipline/contact could make him a pretty valuable player.

This year, his BB% is creeping up, K% is creeping down, along with his O-swing%. Maybe those trends don't hold, but if they do, he could make run to being a Top 5-ish 3B (though, that'd be in large part due to weakness at the position that injuries are compounding).

I did too and I'm a twins fan. Plenty of game left.

Bill Plunkett ‏@billplunkettocr 3hChad Billingsley had his bullpen cut short at 20 pitches. Heading back to LA for dye-MRI tomorrow on elbow. Felt tightness/discomfort today

There has been some absolutely abysmal home plate umpiring all over the place tonight. Thigh-high fastballs that split the plate clean in half....... nothing. It's like Frank Drebin is working the games. Whomever is behind the dish in SF tonight is having a particularly rough evening.

You knew the clubhouse attendants could get the postgame spread ready as soon as League trotted in.

Also, Andre Ethier is shockingly terrible compared to the player he used to be.

This is as good a time as any for someone to explain the logic of the outdoor stadium in Minnesota. They know they have to play outside in April and, Lord willing, late October... right?

ETA: I guess my real question is why no retractable roof? Your neighbors in Milwaukee seem to have gotten that one right.

How many home games per year are unbearably cold? I'd bet the under at ten. I don't think that justifies the extra $80-$100M expense of a retractable roof. An even bigger factor IMO is the ambiance of a dome for baseball. I've been to games at Miller Park on a nice summer night with the roof open. It still feels and sounds a bit enclosed. No matter how skillful the architect is, the structural requirements of the roof dictate a design that's more enclosed than a baseball-only stadium should be.
