**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (1 Viewer)

Twins offense so far is 7 runs worse than Texas and 9 runs better than the Yankees. Seems like a wash for anyone waiting on the Morales landing spot.

HR factor in Yankee Stadium and Arlington vs. Target Field.
Yeah, I don't think the relative strength of the offenses to this point matters much. From a fantasy perspective, New York and Texas much better spots for him given Target Field being the grand canyon.

Sale is flat-out unhittable. Nobody I'd rather have to win one game for me right now.
i felt stupid and that I was getting way too cute benching Pujols and Hamilton but after watching Sales last three starts I felt I had to. I should be in bed, but I can't take my eyes off this.

Ventura's use of Sale is maddening. He should have been lifted after the third straight baserunner reached, no reason to leave him in at 110 pitches to face Trout with the bases loaded.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Chris Sale was breezing along Saturday night, on track to easily win his sixth game in a row without a loss.Sale seemed to have a victory in his pocket when he took a five-run lead into the eighth inning, but the Los Angeles Angels got to him for four hits, including Mike Trout’s game-tying grand slam to center field on Sale’s 115th pitch. It was a stunning turn of events for the ace left-hander.

“I just know the ball went over the fence, and I wanted to rip my own head off,” Sale said.

The Angels plated the game-winning run in a 6-5 victory on Erick Aybar’s single against Jake Petricka.

“It sucked,’’ Sale said. “You put your heart and soul into a game like that and it unravels. Disappointed. Threw a good pitch to a better hitter.”

“That ball, not too many people hit that ball,’’ White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. “Yeah, it’s frustrating. It’s part of baseball.

“He was going pretty good at that point. He’s a pretty good pitcher, and you can’t take him out of the game at that point. They were finding holes.’’

Going into the game, the two-time All-Star had a 0.72 ERA over his last four starts, and this one was looking like those before five Angels reached base in succession (one on an error by Alexei Ramirez).

“Smart? Yeah. He’s an intelligent kid,’’ pitching coach Don Cooper said before the game. “He’s gaining more major-league experience. But his intelligence goes up tenfold because of the physical stuff he commands. Our biggest role is to keep him healthy so he can continue to do this.’’

The Angels did not get a hit until Josh Hamilton singled to right in the fifth. It marked the first hit by a lefty all season against Sale, whose velocity touched 95 in the ugly eighth. Cooper and manager Robin Ventura were not overly concerned about Sale’s pitch count as it climbed above 100 in the eighth, even though he had missed five weeks on the disabled list.

“If you have a bad delivery any pitch is dangerous,’’ Cooper said. “His delivery is solid, man. To me, keeping him healthy is watching the workload. Give him the chance in every game to go as far as he can and be great because you can’t stop a guy from being great. Nobody stopped Sandy Koufax, Randy Johnson, all these great guys.’’

Cooper said he “gets a kick” out of suggestions that 127 pitches against the Boston Red Sox led to Sale, 25, going on the DL.

“The Hall of Fame is filled with guys who’ve done that way many times more than we’ve done it,’’ Cooper said. “You want to give him a chance. This is a really good pitcher that if we keep him healthy and he has a chance to be great just by doing the same thing for five more years. Nothing more.’’

Adam Dunn homered for the second time in two nights, Alejandro De Aza had two doubles and a sacrifice fly and Adam Eaton and Gordon Beckham each singled in a run in a two-run third inning against Angels starter Matt Shoemaker.

Sale has continued to feature his changeup more and his slider less to diversify his arsenal, perhaps to take strain off his arm.

“We’re using more changeups because we don’t want him getting crazy with the breaking ball,’’ Cooper said. “But if we need to whip them out we will. We’re going to whip out whatever we got to whip out to get through that inning, to get that win. I just think he’s a terribly talented guy.’’
I think I found the problem. Ventura doesn't know he has a bullpen.

Target Field only two home runs worse to this point than Arlington. I think too much has been made about the park and not enough about the horrible offenses the Twins have put on the field there. Arcia is proving since his call up that lefties can hit them out there.

Manny speaks!

"The bat just slipped right out of my hands."

:lmao:

Just like how Judge Smails had that putter slip out of his hands and sail 100 yards.

Fay Vincent was talking about his relationship Don Zimmer, and he told a story of having to call him into his office after he learned that Zimmer was placing NFL bets with a bookie via a bartender in Tampa. It wasn't a big deal, Vincent said. He just warned him,

That seemed a pointless and dooshy thing for Vincent to bring up. What does he get out of bringing this up at this time?

arcia hits rockets off righties.

The "accidental backswing" by Machado was worse. Be a ####### man and take a swing at somebody, don't pretend like you have this huge massive backswing all of a sudden. How often does that happen?

Abad was too kind by throwing low on him, he should've gotten one in the ear. He's going to have fun in Oakland next month.

I thought you guys were overreacting with Machado but I'm with you all, I wouldn't mind him getting 15-20, I think the bat swing with Norris is more disgusting to me.

I thought this kid was the next Jeter, and I honestly would have started a team with him over Harper and Trout before his injury last year based on position.

He's really just a gutless punk.

I'm kinda surprised by the lack of PED accusations with Machado. We've got a young guy with impressive numbers coming off serious injury and a long-term recovery who appears to have serious anger issues that flare up out of nowhere. His organization just signed Nelson Cruz as a FA, so if nothing else he likely has access to suppliers (if not an organization that condones PED use).

I don't like it when people run around making these sort of accusations just because a guy's numbers jump or he bulks up, but at some point you lose the right to a presumption of innocence. And I'd say that point is when you throw a bat at someone else.

Like when Roger Clemens threw a broken bat at Mike Piazza?

Yup. That's another reason I'm kinda surprised nobody has brought it up yet.

What Machado did was super dumb, but it is lame these pitchers can fire 95 MPH heaters up there at people without any fear of something happening to them.

Trevor Cahill DFAed by Arizona. They owe him $12M next year.
Half the teams in the league will be trying to get him for cheap.
He won't clear waivers but how much of the ~$17M owed Cahill would a team want to foot in order to have his services for the rest of this year and next? Arizona is probably going to have eat around $10M of that. Fortunately all the grit in their gullet will help them digest it.

It will be interesting to see if any team wants him to start. Working as a reliever this season, his K-rate is way up, and his FIP/xFIP really aren't that bad in any season. The walks are a concern.
