What a fun game... this World Cup is winning some new fans for sure. Start to finish it's been great so far.

Also, if you don't stop the play so your player can get treatment why should I stop it? Like Man United's approach (IIRC) -- just tell them before the game "we're not stopping play and you shouldn't either."

Early tomorrow, I am heading to a remote part of Canada to salmon fish for the better part of a week. If the US beats Portugal, I will deserve a lot of grief and I don't want people to think I disappeared. For the record, my betting results have been terrible--most recently Brazil ML (-270) and Spain ML (-170) so if the trend continues, USA should be golden.

How many teams would you say have a legitimate chance of reaching the final up to this point.

It might be my novice soccer eyes, but the tournament seems relatively wide open

Ivory Coast tactical analysis

Drogba and Bony both in: 16 minutes, 2 goals scored, 0 goals allowed

The rest of the time: 164 minutes, 1 goal scored, 3 goals allowed

I'm really enjoying this World Cup. It's been fun. And my friend who is a die hard soccer fan just said the same thing. But I don't agree entirely. I get excited for Curling in the Olympics, but I would never watch it any other time. I don't think I'll ever watch a soccer match outside of the World Cup. Just not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong. Like I said, I'm enjoying the crap out of it. But next month, soccer will be done for me until 2018.

Group A: Brazil (don't think either Mexico or Croatia have enough)

Group B: Dutch and Chile

Group C: Colombia

Group D: maybe Italy, but I don't think they'll have enough for 7 games

Group E: maybe France, but doubt it

Group F: Argentina

Group G: Germany

Group H: Belgium

While we gather in bars to cheer for our respective countries, we’re probably not thinking about the huge number of kids selling sex on the streets of Brazil.

Roughly 600,000 people have flooded into the country to celebrate the tournament, and with them comes an influx of child prostitutes being exploited all over the country at the World Cup host cities.

Prostitution is legal in Brazil for anyone over the age of 18, but many of these children — some as young as 10 — are accepting as little as fifty cents for sex.
ouch

Oh, sure. Not everyone who watches is going to become a fan. But some of them will.

Be forewarned:

Thinking of Uruguay ML (+290) and Uruguay +1/2 (-111) for the upcoming game. Any thoughts?

I do agree with that. That's why I said I don't agree entirely.

Unlike curling, soccer has millions of people in the US watching watching week in and week out whether there is a WC playing or not.

Every other WC has always drawn new fans to the sport. I don't understand why you think this one won't draw new fans when every other one since 1994 has. Whether or not you will watch is not really the point to what you responded too imo.

If the sport picks up 1 out of every 10 WC only watchers who then continue, it has picked up new fans.

Pump the brakes there, GB. I wasn't saying there wouldn't be any new fans picked up. My point was only that not everyone that is excited about the WC will go on to be soccer fans year round. It wasn't meant to be a knock or anything. I've just heard a lot of friends who are soccer fans talking about the numbers of viewers and how soccer was going to be so big after this. All I was saying is don't be fooled into thinking that all of these rabid WC fans will continue on to be rabid soccer fans.

Of course some will. I never said they wouldn't.

If Dempsey isn't right (not sleeping, can't breath, can't run for long in the heat), he's got to be benched.

----------------Howard

Fabian--Cameron--Besler--Beasley

-----Bedoya--Beckerman--Jones

----------Bradley--Johannsson

----------------Wondo

Obviously not a great option with Wondo alone, so maybe you go back to a diamond with Zusi in for Beckerman and move Johannson up top?

----------------Howard
Fabian--Cameron--Besler--Beasley
----------------Jones
-----Zusi-----------------Bedoya
----------------Bradley
----------Wondo--Johannsson

I like England. They looked a lot better in the first round and it was against stiffer competition. My only major concern for England is why the team seemed to fall apart in the second half. Was it mental, that can be fixed. It is an issue of fitness, it's too late to improve.

Jesus what a mess if Dempsey does not start :(

I could see your lineup with a small tweak. You can't keep Beckerman outside like that imo. He has to sit in front if the back two and just clog the middle.

....Bedoya.........Beckerman............Jones

That is closer to what it looked like against Turkey and Ghana. If you want Jones to help on CRo he and Bedoya could switch if needed.

If it's an issue of fitness, it may be fixed by not playing in the rainforest this time.

England sucks. They have similar issues as Spain, only the English are not as good. HTH

Ok I understand.

When you responded saying you disagreed with the statement "this World Cup is winning some new fans for sure" it did not sound like what you just said. The bold is the key part that caused the confusion in your first response.

It's all good. No worries. I knew we were saying the same thing, essentially. I was just doing it in a confusing matter. :hifive:
