So when the US beats Portugal, is it:

1. Thrilla in Brazilla

2. Madhouse in Manaus
I fully admit to being a newb to this sport but why are you so positive on the US? I thought they were outplayed for most of the first game and they also are going to be missing their key offensive player.

Italy getting no respect on these lists. I think they're one of the favorites.

They handled Germany in Euro 2012 on their way to the final. They're strong defensively and in goal. They've got Pirlo and Balotelli. They'll likely win their group, and second place in Group C should be a very beatable opponent.

This game will play out differently than Ghana, where Ghana were desperate to get back into the game, and kept the US pinned back. I think you will see a better flow to this game, and with a week to prepare for a game without Jozy, I think we'll be fine.

There was a lot of talk about replacing Jozy after the first two friendlies in the send-off series, so its not like he is that key - an important loss, but not a deal killer.

We don't know yet whether Dempsey is out (Jozy is important but is not the key player especially if they change the formation a bit). If Dempsey is out too then yeah, it is a mess.

US missing Jozy and Dempsey is probably more hurtful than Portugal missing its 3 players.

However, if Dempsey can play, then the injury advantage switches to the US IMO.

"OK. Turn to the left and cross your arms."

"Can we do something different?"

"Ummm..... I guess look at the ground, then look up.... and cross your arms."

What a fun game... this World Cup is winning some new fans for sure. Start to finish it's been great so far.

Also, if you don't stop the play so your player can get treatment why should I stop it? Like Man United's approach (IIRC) -- just tell them before the game "we're not stopping play and you shouldn't either."
I'm really enjoying this World Cup. It's been fun. And my friend who is a die hard soccer fan just said the same thing. But I don't agree entirely. I get excited for Curling in the Olympics, but I would never watch it any other time. I don't think I'll ever watch a soccer match outside of the World Cup. Just not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong. Like I said, I'm enjoying the crap out of it. But next month, soccer will be done for me until 2018.
Oh, sure. Not everyone who watches is going to become a fan. But some of them will.
:hey:

Pretty cool that all 5 black guys that live in England seem to have made their soccer team.
Don't get out of the backwoods much, do you?
Just wait until he hears them speak.
Relax. It's a joke about England only having about 1.5% of their population being black. And also about how malleable nationalities become in international sports.
it's 3.5%
Plus a bunch of arabs...could push that over 5%...

Be forewarned:

Thinking of Uruguay ML (+290) and Uruguay +1/2 (-111) for the upcoming game. Any thoughts?
I like England. They looked a lot better in the first round and it was against stiffer competition. My only major concern for England is why the team seemed to fall apart in the second half. Was it mental, that can be fixed. It is an issue of fitness, it's too late to improve.
If it's an issue of fitness, it may be fixed by not playing in the rainforest this time.
True, but Italy didn't seem to be having the same issues.

Well then, that's almost enough to field a baseball team then.

the Indian/Pakistani population in England is nearly twice as large as the African/Caribbean but the best footballer to come out of it has been Parminder Nagrawa in Bend It Like Beckham
