***Official 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread : Pens raise the cup for 4th time in franchise history*** (1 Viewer)

Announcer said earlier they today's date is the latest the blues have ever played into the season. That's unbelievable.

Game 6 of the WCF will be the deepest they've been in the playoffs since 85-86, when Doug Wickenheiser capped off a torrid game 6 comeback to send the series with the Calgary Flames to Game 7 (where they lost, shocker).

I was 11 months old when that series happened.

When Pavelski is red hot like he is now he reminds me of Brett Hull, especially on the PP.  Blues fans probably thinking the worst but I'm not sure there has been a more choking franchise in the past 10+ years like the Sharks.  This year no expectations, and they are a game from the SCF.  This is where they have pressure and become Joe Thornton's Sharks.

He wasn't great, but at least he wasn't a ghost like Tarasenko.
Tarasenko is clearly hurt.  He took a cheap shot to the ribs the other night and was in major pain after that.  Wouldn't be surprised if it eventually comes out that he has a cracked rib or two.  And yeah, I know, everyone is playing through some kind of injury right now, but bad ribs takes all of the power away from a sniper like Tarasenko.

DeBoer's/Pavelski's Sharks vs. Thornton's Sharks...something has to give.

Malkin says back up the truck.

"I believe in my team, I believe in myself," Malkin said unsolicited. "We're coming back to Pittsburgh for sure."
Teams don't come back from losses like that. They're in Letang's kitchen and now who knows about the mental state of Matt Murray who absolutely must start on goal. I'd say you're backing up the truck to the wrong spot. TB is a lock tonight.

Malkin played fine in game 5.  Letang on the other hand.......

I think/hope this is some type of bizarre shtick.

It's been a long trying emotional beatdown for years but we haven't lost yet.

The Blues weren't even that good that year.  They were around .500 on the season and won the first two rounds without home ice advantage.

Extra big break with Calgary winning Game 7 in Edmonton to knock out Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, and co., just a loaded team expected to win the Cup easily.

Anyway, that Game 6 with Wickenheiser's goal was not openly broadcast in St. Louis.  At the time a lot of NHL teams had home games, even playoff games, blacked out on TV to help attendance. So there was no local TV broadcast, ESPN's coverage was blacked out.  But you could get the Blues home games on pay-per-view.  I remember watching Wickenheiser's goal live, but through a slightly scrambled/negative signal because my dad wouldn't pay a PPV price for a hockey game.

Sharks +135 to win cup

Bolts +250

I know I keep harping on this, and have been for weeks now, but I seriously don't get it.

Small market team that no one bets on so they need to attract people to bet them.   It has nothing really to do with if they can actually win or not.

Murray named starting goaltender tonight for the Pens..
lol what a mess this has become.  He should have just left Murray in for game 5.  With the exception of a couple soft goals, Murray has been playing fine all playoffs.  I know I said earlier that Murray should have a short leash but I don't think he did anything in game 4 that warranted benching.  But then again hindsight is 20/20.

I get that, but San Jose and Pittsburgh aren't exactly NYC either. And the bolts won the east last year

Best reasoning I've seen is Bishop and Stamkos being out, but it seems like there is enough evidence to show they can overcome it. Not a big deal, just a curiosity.

Even in the years of the Sharks choking, Pavelski always played well in the postseason.  They feel much less reliant on Thornton and Marleau producing.

Just saw that if the Bolts do make the cup, game 6 will be the night before my flight.

Now they'll probably lose 7-1 tonight

I guess I have to root for the Pens tonight, since as a Blues fan, if they now make the finals, it will take them 7 to beat SJ, and thus we want the East CF going as long as possible.

Malkin is a effing idiot, doesn't take wide open shot then retaliates. By the way another cheap shot by a hole Callahan. That guy is garbage
