***Official 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread : Pens raise the cup for 4th time in franchise history*** (1 Viewer)

offsides challenge is the worst.  not only was that a huge momentum swing in an important game where the spirit of the rule wasn't even being broke since he was straddling the line while stationary anyway, but it's not even clear he was offside anyway yet they go ahead and overturn it.  everyone focused on his left skate off the ice yet not one of the angles showed his right skate, the back of which was on the blue, in the air before the puck crosses.

they can't dump this quick enough.
Agree.  No linesman calls that offside at full speed; no fan seeing full speed either. It's a different way to call offsides than ever before. Not to mention Drouin checked up to stay on, so there was no advantage to the Lightning.

The other thing I hate about that review is that it never works the opposite - they can't say "oops, we called it off when it wasn't" and give the possession/scoring chance back.

This has nothing to do with the fact that I bet on the Lightning. :oldunsure:

let's make the nets bigger and play 2 on 2 or something though because we need more goals and money and stuff

It's the worst rule I've ever seen in any sport. It is absolutely unbelievable.

I've posted about this before a few pages back, but the blue line really needs to be a vertical plane in regards to this rule. Player's back skate is in the air, but still above the line (or even behind it), he's onside. After all, the lines are vertical planes for the puck crossing the blue line, the goal line, etc.

And you're right about the replay angles never showing his front skate over the line. I have no idea how they determined that was conclusive enough to overturn it.

I was over this too :hot:

big trade between Couver and 'Rida

Gubrandson and a 5th for McCann, a 2nd and 4th.

Gubrandson was playing a lot of minutes for them, but I guess the people in charge didn't love him.

I think they were frustrated that he would show flashes. Interesting that he just signed a 1 year 3.5 Mil extrnsion

Well ####. Time to start gearing up for the annual acceptance of defeat. Easier this year since it won't be a bitter early round loss this time.

Kenny Albert and Micheletti are  so clueless when it comes to referee calls and other minor things like what is actually going on

This team's just out of gas. 20th game of the playoffs.

Oh well. Congrats Sharks. You've earned it. No heads hanging low here, I'll take 20 playoff games from the Blues any year.

That said, I've gotta root for the city of my birth now. Go Bolts!

Makes you wonder how much better they could be playing now had they finished off Chicago in OT of Game 5, instead of having to play two more tough games against that team.  Or maybe it wouldn't have mattered at all.

That was an emotionally draining series just as a fan, can't imagine how it was for the team. I mean, they still got through Dallas, but you have to wonder if Dallas would have gone to seven games if the Blues had a full tank of gas. Also, Martin Jones is not Kari Lehtonen.

Atlanta is tough, but I'm not sure if you remember that there was a poll by Rolex guy asking if the worst sports fan in all of pro sports was manifest in the form of a Shark fan.

It was…curious.
It's not that Atlanta fans are tough...its just their support for their teams has always been a little dubious.

The worst fans in sports scheduled a bunch of school open houses tonight.  Only caught the last 10 minutes of the 3rd.  I guess I don't blame them.  It's not like the Sharks are usually playing this time of the year.

Woo!

Congrats Sharks backers. Surprised that they took out St Lou. Blues were playing so well I didn't think Sharks could pull it off, was on the wrong side of that series. Now can the Thorntons get their monkeys off their backs?

they've had such a weird offseason and this tops it off.  no idea why they make that move, Gubrandson looked like part of the core.
