*** OFFICIAL FIRE JEFF FISHER NOW THREAD *** (1 Viewer)

I'll say this, too:

Fisher hasn't won a playoff game since 2003. So, unless the Titans go on a run here, make the playoffs, and win a playoff game, this will be the 7th straight season he has failed to win a playoff game. How many coaches can get away with not winning a playoff game that many seasons in a row? Sadly for Titans fans, it seems like they are happy with sometimes sort of being in the mix, but never really doing anything when it counts.
There's your Jeff Fisher coaching history. We are sick and tired of always being mediocre! Could it be worse? Of course. Could it be better than the perennial middle of the pack? We'll never know until Fisher is gone. Get. Rid. Of. Him. He is a petulant guy, quite defensive, stubborn, and somehow has the football world fooled into thinking he is God's gift to football.

17 years. 1 AFC title. Yep, that's rich. And...it isn't just him. You have any idea how many completely wasted 1st and 2nd round picks the Titans have had in the last 10 years? 20 picks, and just the tip of the iceberg: VY, Pacman, Lendale, Chris Henry, Ben Troupe, Andre Woolfolk, Travis LaBoy, Tyrone Calico, Shad Meier, etc. Heck, that's 9 right there. We need wholesale changes from the top down. Don't keep anyone but Mike Munchak and Jim Washburn.

I'm done until he's gone.

The last time Jeff Fisher won a playoff game:

-George W. Bush was still serving his first of two presidential terms.

-Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb had only been to two NFC title games together.

-Peyton Manning won his first playoff game the same weekend.

-Eddie George was still the Titans featured RB.

-Aaron Brooks threw 24 touchdown passes for the New Orleans Saints.

-Dante Hall was THE league's stud punt returner.

-Mike Martz was still the highly-regarded head coach of the St. Louis Rams.

I'll trade you a Lovie Smith and a Mike Martz for one Jeff Fisher.
Why? Same dude. Superbowl, lots of mediocore football on defensive oriented teams. Like this year when they are better than mediocore it is with largely ugly football. Fisher has nothing on his record (except for years) that Smith does not.

I'm all on board with Fisher being overrated but isn't pointing out the fact that the team hasn't provided him with much talent through the draft making the point that he has been able to keep the Titans relatively competitive despite not being given a lot of young talent for the past 10 years. Seems to me that shows he has been able to keep team in contention over the past decade with much less talent than other teams.

as michigan j frog once said " hello my baby...hello my honey..............."

i offer these simple words........the team has mailed it in.....the players have no confidence in the staff...............based on the schedule i can actually see the team losing out.............which brings me to square one of the original ................FIRE FISHER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! BLAGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More facts about Fisher, although I disagree with the Kubiak = Fisher thesis.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/7312873.html

But Jeff Fisher?

He is as average a coach as the Texans' Gary Kubiak has been. Fisher might be the best average coach in NFL history. He is certainly the least accomplished, longest-tenured coach the league has seen.

His greatest accomplishment is that he has yet to be fired. Granted, that is a notable feat considering his boss fired six coaches in the previous stretch matching Fisher's tenure.

Those coaches had 10 winning years and 10 playoff seasons compared to Fisher's six winning campaigns and six postseason appearances. But let Fisher's media cronies tell you, and you'd think Fisher is a great coach. (A nice guy who hangs around the league long enough is sure to build a following.)

Fisher (141-115) is 15th in league history in games coached. Only two coaches ahead of him on that list have worse winning percentages: Dan Reeves and Weeb Ewbank.

Ewbank led two teams to three championships, including victories in the Greatest Game Ever Played and arguably the most important Super Bowl of all-time, the Jets' upset of the Colts in 1969. He also posted an .800 winning percentage in the playoffs. Advantage Ewbank.

Reeves coached three teams, taking two to four Super Bowls. He won seven division titles, and had nine 10-win seasons and a .550 playoff winning percentage. Advantage Reeves.

First clue: zero titles

Fisher has zero championships, one Super Bowl appearance, just four division titles and a sub-.500 playoff winning percentage. Both times Fisher had a team with the best record in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the postseason, his squad was upset in its first playoff game.

If, as it used to be, championship contention was necessary to make money in the NFL, Bud Adams would have run Fisher off years ago.

Yet Houston fans and some media desire to hire Fisher? Great coach? Please. (Need I mention Fisher's relatively branchless coaching tree?)

It doesn't make sense

In NFL history, 57 men have coached at least 150 games. Fisher is one of only three to coach all of his games with one team and not win a championship. Coincidentally, each of the other two has a .622 winning percentage, compared to Fisher's .551.

Bud Grant, who coached 259 games (to Fisher's 256 at this point), posted 11 winning seasons, 11 division championships and made four Super Bowl appearances with the Vikings.

Andy Reid has six division titles in 11 seasons (and his team leads the NFC East), with a Super Bowl appearance, five NFC title games and just two losing seasons. Until last year, his Eagles, who host the Texans next Thursday, had not lost an opening playoff game, winning seven straight.

In a way, none of this matters as Fisher, one of the highest-paid coaches in the league, would have to throw away millions to leave the Titans before his contract expires after next year. And it is quite unlikely Adams would give him permission to immediately return to where his career started and take over the Texans next year.

Only a fool - let's go with a working premise that Texans owner Bob McNair is no fool - would fire Kubiak and give up draft picks to hire Fisher. It is also safe to assume McNair isn't afflicted with coach envy. If so, he would have fired Kubiak long ago.

There are five active coaches in the NFL who have won Super Bowls. Fisher isn't one of them. There are eight other Super Bowl-winning coaches who have left the NFL in the past five seasons.

Did it or does it really matter how looney Young is? That guy in there today was HORRIBLE!!!!!

Just ridiculous to go with that guy into an NFL game, and just as ridiculous to have that as your only option...

He's the 3rd string qb. There are a lot of untested and unproven rookie 3rd stringers.

:lmao:

the stadium is half-empty....the team has quit...................5-7 after today with the colts twice....houston and kc..staring at 5-11..............meaning that would be a 9 game losing streak to end the year after 5-2............how does this porn-stached clown who hasn't won a playoff game since 2003 in 16+ years of mediocrity still have a job............fire FISHER NOW BEFORE THE END OF THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :help: :tfp:

when your top option is a known loose cannon and your second option is 100 years old, that's a bad spot to put yourself in

Sure, but Fisher didn't do this. I think it's time for him to go, but don't be surprised if the team is worse off for it.

3RD CONSECUTIVE GAME....no offensive touchdowns....what????......that's just purely OFFENSIVE............when the stache can't play his beloved fisherball the titans will lose about 90% of the time...........................check please!

Last week was rock bottom. I mean, can it get any worse than being shut out by the freaking Texans horrible defense? I think it is safe to say that Fisher has probably lost this team.

your daily jeff fisher " coach 'em up stat of the week "

the Titans have now lost five in a row for the fifth time in seven years. doh!!!!

.........It’s an amazing stat made even more amazing by the fact that head coach Jeff Fisher rarely is regarded as being remotely close to occupying a spot on the hot seat...........

keep hope alive folks!!

the Randy plague is spreading. NE just recognized the virus before it began. Minn was sick before he came and then he just destroyed what was left. Tenn is going down fast.

Well, that has changed this year. I'm beginning to think we'll have a new head coach next year while Vince Young will still be on the roster (and probably starting). So are we suddenly going to start bringing home championship? All I know is that despite his oft-cited post season record (or lack thereof), Fisher won't have a problem finding a new job. And what happens if his new team lights it up for the next 3 or 4 years? Are you going to say it's all about the players?

Well, Tennessee should not be not under any pressure to fire Fisher. I mean, why not join the Jags and Texans in keeping the staus quo, so that Peyton Manning continues to be the best HC in the division.

well said sir......day 3 jiff flusher is left dangling in the wind by mr. adams............ :wall:

Young is still in Texas, best I can tell, and didn't show up for the exit physicals. Every other teammate did, even the hurt guys that know they will fail the exit physical.

It's the end of the season, when the lockers get cleaned up and they all wish each other well and....it's not just a physical he missed per se.

So all you Young vs. Fisher people, Young just "dug his own grave" a little deeper recently

I thought these stas were very telling on Fisher and how the media and fans may have build up Fisher better than he is.

While we await Phase 2 of Adams’ decision, here’s numerical context on Fisher that Keith Hawkins of ESPN Stats & Info compiled for us.

Fisher’s winning percentage now is .542 (142-120). Among NFL coaches who have at least 140 regular-season wins, only Dan Reeves has a lower win percentage. Reeves was 190-165-2 in the regular season, for a .535 mark.

Among head coaches with at least 140 regular-season wins, no one has had fewer winning seasons than Fisher’s six. The next closest would be nine winning seasons (Mike Shanahan and Marv Levy).

If you knock that down to a 120-win threshold, Fisher still has the fewest winning seasons. Jim Mora (215), **** Vermeil (120), Mike Ditka (121) and Weeb Ewbank (130) all had seven winning seasons.

Among coaches with 140 regular season wins, Fisher’s 5-6 playoff record makes for the third-worst playoff winning percentage (.455). Marty Schottenheimer is at .278 (5-13) , Chuck Knox at .389 (7-11) and Bud Grant is also at .455 (10-12).

I didnt see a Titans thread to post this in so i figured id give it a shot here it looks like the Eagles are interested in Jim Washburn as their DL coach and not many (if any) Eagle fans know much about him. I was looking for a little local insight from some Titans homers.

Thanks!
