*** Official NFL Preseason Games - Observations Thread *** (1 Viewer)

Not a big fan of the NFL Network split screening the start of Texans/Vikings with the last 2 minutes of Bills/Dolphins and switching between audio. No one cares about the 4th string practice squads, I want to be able to watch the first stringers in the next game since they may only play a short time.

Edit: Ok, finally they dropped coverage of the Bills/Dolphins after the first few plays.
McCarthy only played the first drive, had a couple of good throws especially to Addison, scrambled for a 1st on a 4th but stalled out for a FG. He did sail one on a 3rd down too. Texans not playing any starters on offense other than much of the offensive line which did quite well on the first drive against a Vikings d'line that ate their lunch last year (not sure which starters Vikes had in on defense this game.) Jaylin Noel had a nice catch and run on a screen and caught another on drive #2. I saw Higgins lined up but no targets. Texans swapped out lineman on the 2nd drive and T Zach Thomas immediately gave up a big hit and a sack. Already seeing 3rd string guys in for Houston so I doubt I will watch the rest.

WR Rondale Moore for the Vikes is down after a special teams play and they are bringing the cart.

Mixed review on Sanders play. He showed enough to keep working with him. He had a good post game interview where he graded himself at C+, which is close to what I'd have given him (B-) but more importantly showed he was hungry and willing to work to impress. I loathe his father, so it's refreshing to see he's a bit different.
But he didn't play nearly as well as Eagles backup Tanner McKee. McKee looks like a potential NFL starter and Philly is in good shape for backup QB

At least Sanders is showing enough intelligence to try to change the narrative.

Am I the only one who thinks Fields could be a sneaky good play this year? His skillset is a good mesh for that offense

I think most see him as a good fantasy option in redraft...the issue is, is he a QB you can win with in real football which is why there is a good amount of skepticism in Dynasty...looking at the Jets QB-depth chart there is not a youngster waiting in the wings so he would really have to play badly to get benched this year.

CeeDee Lamb got crushed by a ref on the sidelines. Totally on Lamb, why are you not standing on the sideline and not looking at the field?

ETA: He's fine, he just looks like a moron. It would have been a 2020s Cowboys thing if he'd actually gotten injured though.

A view from the cheap seats:

Justin Fields looks like a real NFL quarterback
Aaron Glenn is bringing fire to The J-E-T-S
Trevor Lawrence and The Jags look like..well...Trevor Lawrence and The Jags
The Giants front four is legit
Jaxson Dart will be starting in October
Agree with travdogg,Kyler Murray is hyped as "this is the year" again. It isn't.
It's preseason week one..everything subject to change

His upside is a top 3 QB. I think he is being drafted around his downside. His running makes his floor so high.

I thought he looked great last night. It was a good sign to see him throwing to the middle of the field.

Good value this year in waiting on QB and taking a stab on 2 mobile ones like Fields and Maye.

Zach Wilson with a couple of nice throws down field. And 2 easy misses on short passes to the TEs. He also takes too much time in the pocket, took 3 sacks in the first half. Now 4 sacks with the first drive in the 2nd half. Made a couple of nice runs, but that doesn't make up for slow decision making.

If Tua misses time, I hope Ewers is the QB for the sake of those who draft Hill, Waddle, or Achane.

Sure seems like Alexander Mattison is ahead of Jaylen Wright in Miami.
I was watching that game earlier from the beginning. Wright got carries right after Achane, but he looks rather high cut and thin in the lower half to me. I’m not sure that’s really what they need as the Achane complement. Wright was stuffed multiple times in close.

Maddison was the third to get carries, also got stuffed in short yardage at first, but finally punched in the first TD. I turned it off after that.

was hoping to see Ewers today
Nice 4th down throw to Gordon in a tight window.
Even with 2 fumbles and starting 0-5, Ewers looks like a better QB than Zach. Aside from one pass, he was on target and got rid of the ball quickly. He had a few drops, and plays where there was no separation from the 3rd team WRs. It won't take much for him to be #2. I wanna see him play with the 2nd team offense next week.

Harsh words from Barry Jackson:

>>Zach Wilson has the third-lowest passer rating among all active quarterbacks, and it was easy to see why Sunday. He threw a pass that should have been intercepted for a touchdown, following a training camp in which he threw four interceptions and a half dozen passes that could have been intercepted.

He held onto the ball far too long on multiple plays, including one that foiled a drive late in the first half. With his feet not set, he bounced a pass to a wide open Tanner Conner for what should have been a touchdown. And he threw low to Julian Hill on another poorly thrown ball. Wilson finished 5 for 9 for 96 yards.<<

I know some Dolphins fans will disagree, but I think Tua is a good QB, like somewhere in the 11-15 range in the NFL. As we saw last season, if he goes down, the offense goes with him. I truly think the dropoff from Tua to Wilson/Ewers, is a bigger a drop off than anything outside of Baltimore, Buffalo, and KC.

I'd probably prefer Wilson over Ewers fantasy wise, as Wilson at least has a history of heavily targeting the RB, so he won't sink Achane as much as the non-Tua guys last year did.

I waited until the 10th in an HDPC league yesterday and took Murray and I regretted not waiting longer.

Not touching him within 3 rounds of his ADP. Have always had bust vibes from him, and that pick might have been one of the ugliest I've ever seen from a "vet"

Been happily grabbing Tua LATE as my QB2 in redraft this year,
