The Club World Cup continues to have some problems. FIFA have dramatically cut prices again as the opener has only sold 25 so far.

A bigger problem looms as the MLS players (and most importantly for FIFA, Miami included), are currently in a deep fight with the MLS owners about pay for CWC. The owners are doing the "well you signed the CBA" dance which limits MLS players to a pittance of the reward money coming to MLS teams. And the players are saying it was impossible to predict something like this when they signed.

I think it makes alot more sense if you think of it as an alternate to the annual parade of exhibition games we normally have this time of year. It won't add any games for most of the euro clubs, so the main difference really is that this is a tournament that includes smaller clubs from all over the world, reportedly with total purse money of $1bln. Just as with those exhibition games, these will be a mixture of young/new players with vets, at least in the earlier rounds. For many of these clubs, the purse money could be significant budget factor if they can win a couple games and advance from the group.

* Mayor Wu is the incumbent. She has strongly backed using tax money to do a massive refurbishment of old White Stadium, to be used when done for the Boston Legacy NWSL team.

* Mayor Wu's direct opponent in the race is making a ton of waves about how much corruption and over spending there is on the stadium that is wasting tax dollars

* The opponents name, and this is where it gets fun, is Josh Kraft. Yup, one of Bob's son

* And Wu's team is firing back saying Josh is doing nothing but adding to conflict of interest because Bob is actively trying to secure a location to build in Boston (for the Revs stadium) and Wu is seen as the last person standing against him, saying she wants Boston to get more out of the stadium deal before she will support it.

* It is worth noting that the Kraft stadium is expected to be private money funded.


How this all plays out in terms of the election may go a LONG way in finally seeing a stadium in Boston for the Revs.

So the Krafts are trying to secure a site in Boston for the Revolution and/or Patriots? Is that how to understand that?

The stadium is intended to be just for the Revs. The stadium site they are negotiating for (an old shuttered power plant) won't support an NFL sized stadium. They are looking to build a 25k stadium in Everett, which is considered part of the greater Boston area, which is why the mayor is involved.

Yeah there is no more "should win" games for United. They lost 4 times last season to a team that finished 17th. And I think once to a team that finished 19th.

Watching the last few episodes of Welcome to Wrexham they focused on him and Palmer's lack of playing time, lack of goals and how to handle moving on from the two. Mullin has had injury issues and neither were scoring. At 30, probably not a bad thing for him to stay in league one with Wigan.

Started planning a 2026 trip over the weekend. Part of the already-booked trip involves one day in Wrexham en route to Holyhead so we can take a ferry to Dublin. I'll hoist a few at the Turf for everyone. Maybe I'll get lucky and there will be a midweek game or something, but in any event I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Yeah, as people stated getting tickets for Wrexham is HARD. Might be easier once they finish the new stand but that isn't coming any time soon, at least for your purposes. I only got a ticket for my visit on account of Salford not having a huge travelling fan base, and that was two divisions ago. I can't think of any Championship club that won't sell out the small (<1k) allocation Wrexham give, there's zero chance I get one myself unless I nick one in a ballot.

Holyhead/Dublin ferry is a fun thing to try, have done UK to elsewhere ferries a couple of times

Bundesliga & Bundesliga 2 schedules come out on Friday. That is going to dictate quite a bit of our trip! Hoping for a Dortmund home. Maybe Frankfurt or Stuttgart.
Want to see a B2 match as they are just as good and probably at a bit less cost.

I've been to a fair few at both levels (16/18 Bundesliga grounds, 11/18 BL2). Ironically the time you are there is probably the best time of the year to get Bayern home tickets as if things clash there are a lot of people that will prioritise Oktoberfest. Ask me whatever once fixtures are out and I'll help you out if I can

Yeah, only mention that as it would be negligent of me not to mention it as a thing. I'm sure you've done some research, but while Germany is not a big country in comparison to the US it is still pretty big by rest of the world standards, out of those places you mention only Stuttgart is a feasible day trip given the travelling involved. Frankfurt maybe but it would be a long day. Dortmund (or NRW in general) is not

This is just incredible in France as Lyon is sitting bottom of the table, and currently down 0-3 to Marseille.
This is pretty massive - I believe this is the game that was replayed after the Lyon bus was attacked on their previous trip. Lyon, has been a big club in France for well, as long as I've followed soccer, 7 time Ligue 1 winners, perennial Champions League/Europa league participants. I'm not sure the last time they weren't in the top league, and too lazy to look but this team is in shambles. Pretty sure they're on their 3rd coach already this year as well.
