I was just thinking back to Howard's memorial and the news that HHM is no more.  If Howard's death wasn't enough, pretty sure the firm's demise was the nail in the coffin for Jimmy and Kim's relationship.  They are both responsible for its collapse while it was the vessel that gave them an opportunity to succeed.  The McGill and Hamlin legacy ruined by pettiness.  As much as I love Jimmy and Kim, I also hate them.

I dunno. The Walt/Skylar scene* was a coda that provided a resolution to their relationship (and Walt finally being honest with her, and himself, about his motivations). It was a brief respite before his final showdown with the bikers.

I see Kim playing a more central role in the end-of-series narrative.

* By the way, did anyone else find that scene wholly implausible? All these police/DEA agents are looking for Walt, they know he's in ABQ, but he's somehow able to have a leisurely conversation with Skylar in her kitchen? No way that place wasn't crawling with cops. I loved the BB finale, but that always bothered me.

Yeah, their scams led directly (more or less) to the deaths of the firm's two remaining named partners. That was definitely more than Kim bargained for.

You just fast forward to that part on your DVR, pause and count the letters. It wasn’t that long of a statement. Probably 5 minutes to count the letters, 3 minutes to figure out the avg seconds per letter and a few more minutes to figure out the simple calculations to minutes. 
 

It’s 10-15 mins of time. . I’ve wasted way more time for way more of a ridiculous thing to post about. :cough femaleattractivenessscale cough:

She was a major player and for them to go from one scene with them "breaking up" to the next with Saul in a new house sleeping with a hooker seemed too quick.

Obviously not literally. Given that the license plate said 2005, it was at least a few years (I think the main BCS story is in 2001?)

I am guessing (always wrong!) that the intro to the next episode is one of their famous song montages with a bunch of clips of Saul doing Saul stuff and then very shortly afterwards it will be clear we are in the breaking bad era.

If you narrow down this period to November 1, 2004 - November 30, 2005 (based on the license plate expiring in November, 2005), the only day the S&P 500 rose by exactly 5 points is February 10, 2005. Therefore, the next day when he’s driving into work would be February 11, 2005.

They're all paying tribute to Tony Soprano (or, if you want to stretch it back even further, to Tarantino and Pulp Fiction).

I don't know how many people read that famous long blog post that advanced the theory that Tony definitely got whacked in the final scene, but the part of the argument I found the most convincing was that it was all a big FU from David Chase to the audience. He was, in effect, telling them: You cheered on Tony even though I kept trying to tell you what an awful human being he was. So if you identify with him so much, you get to experience his death the same way he does, without any emotional distance. You'll never see it coming.

ETA: Don't feel like going through that entire exegesis to find the quote, but I found this quote from Chase in a separate article that expresses a similar sentiment:

“They wanted to know that Tony was killed. They wanted to see him go face-down in linguini, you know?” Chase continued. “And I just thought, ‘God, you watched this guy for seven years, and I know he’s a criminal. But don’t tell me you don’t love him in some way, don’t tell me you’re not on his side in some way. And now you want to see him killed? You want justice done? You’re a criminal after watching this #### for seven years.’ That bothered me, yeah.”

Just to add...I also saw a close up somewhere of the handicap tag Saul hung in his car and it had a 11/20/2008 date on it.  Handicap placards need to be renewed every 4 years in New Mexico.  So it was obtained about 5 months after the Kim split.  This, of course, does not negate the point highlighted by ignatius, but the writers throw these nuggets of detail in in there intentionally.  I doubt the explanation is that Saul has expired tags.

Podcast said Kim's conversation with Hamlin's wife was her breaking point. She twisted the knife in when it wasn't necessary and realized almost immediately afterwards in the garage that they had to break up. She didn't like the person she was becoming with Saul. While she wanted a clean break and to change her ways, Jimmy went the opposite direction and became full-on Saul.
