How many people would find the extra $$$ for ADP and Brees today???
I wouldn't. It's not like Brees is going to throw for 360 yards and 6 TDs every week, or Peterson will run for 180 and 3. I'd be pissed if I spent more than a third of my budget on two players and they put up what will likely be their best week of the year in week 1 when you don't really need it.
The 6 TD's is an anomaly, but Brees averaged over 300 yards per game last year. If Brees throws for over 5,000 yards again and ups his TD total to near 40, he will be worth it. And if ADP can get 1800 rushing yards, get his TD total up to around 20, he will be worth it. The challenge is then finding those low-teir and mid-tier guys that step up.
If Brees throws for 5000 yards again this year I'll eat my hat.

Would you like mustard with that?

After several years spreading my dollars among the average players, this year I went with some studs and sleepers. Since we have had such a drought in Austin this year and now a week of constant rain, it seemed appropriate to go with a feast or famine approach. Definitely feast this week. I tried to keep my studs in the early bye weeks and picked some hopeful sleepers that will develop into productive players as the season progresses.

looking real bad.

I was all :reche:  when I heard the Bills scored a defensive touchdown but they put up a big donut in the 2nd half :(

I netted a total of 4 points and I just don't think that's gonna be enough especially since the way Moss and Welker got all those PPR points.

Chris Baker

Looks like I ended at 148.5 FPs on the week. No idea where that'll put me, but with Rodgers, Palmer, Turner, Parker, Boldin...all doing NOTHING for me in Week One, I'm lucky if I live to fight another week.

Man I barely got outta training camp and the Turk got me. :hophead:

Well, I'll still track the theoretical perfect entry that I SHOULD have put into the contest and see how bad I really screwed up (I posted it earlier). That entry would still be alive :kickrock:

Good luck everyone!!!

Sorry to see you go, QG.

I lived to fight another day with this team. I've subscribed for years, this is the first time I've ever done the contest. I spent the $ on Brady not only for his upside, but for his consistency, and I liked the value of Flacco as a backup. Go figure Flacco outscores Brady week 1.

I went with what looks like the same RB's as everyone else - the lowest owned % of my RB is 18.5%. That's not a lot of separation if I want to go deep, but I'll worry about getting there and let luck take care of itself. I'm somewhat reliant on injuries to get studs at RB though, and even if I do get those, so will everyone else.

I wanted strong WR - starting 3 of them and getting 1ppr, they seemed to me to be the most valuable position. So I'm strong at the top end and have a lot of 'em.

I don't think I focused enough on TE. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably take Ocho out and spread the money among two TE.

K - This is a really stupid fantasy position, especially in a contest like this. I probably should have taken an extra kicker over Davis or James because I'd use them more often.

Team D - Went with the FBG combo and threw in the 'aints - figure Reggie's good for a PR TD or two, and teams are going to be passing a lot against them, so what the hell. We'll find out if I know what I'm doing soon enough.

Also, a lot of players I really wanted (Brady, Moss, Ocho), one that seemed like good value (Henry) and one that I went down to due to budget concerns (Winslow) have week 8 bye weeks. Flacco, Colston, Schilens, Bess, Robinson, Cribbs, Finley, and my RB's are going to get me some serious luck week 8 should I get there. But hey, anybody that wins this thing is going to need some serious luck. FF is about 90% luck, 5% paying for someone else to give you good info (which we all have) and 5% not being a #######.

Barely made it with 136.75. Thank you Matt Hasselbeck, Brent Celek and Patrick Crayton. Don't know how long I'm gonna last this year.

This doesn't mean much in regards to winning the contest, but 9 of the worst 10 teams all had only 20 roster spots filled. The other team only filled 21 spots. All of these teams were good attempts...no 12 QB guy or 12 K guy.

I looked at the 10 just missing the cutoff and it was a pretty even roster distribution based on the original entry population.

No less than 6 teams missed the cut due to QB kneel downs.

what a bad way to go down.

Hopefully DD will update the percentage of remaining teams by roster size as the season goes on. I think this is something that a lot of people are interested in.

I have the first run of live scoring for the contest players up here.. Updates every 10 minutes at 10,20,30,40 etc...

Thanks OC. By the way - I think you are missing Zach Miller (Oakland) - the guy who saved my season last night. I wonder if there's some issue with players with duplicate names.
I'll take a look at it when I get home tonight.. Thats exactly it, the way I populated the teams in the DB conflicted with my player DB in some spots, I thought I had them all. Thanks for the heads up.

Of course, it's highly unlikely that finding a way to add 3 or 4 $1-$2 guys would have increased those low scores by the 40 or 50 points they needed to make the cut. Bad is bad, no matter how many guys are on the roster.

Unless downgrading from Slaton, Forte, AJ, etc would have gotten them a better producing stud. You make a good point.

Thank AP :) I remember a couple years back when nobody got cut I got some ridiculous week one score of less than 100 points - my team decided to show up after week 2. I will say that it does say something about the projections, since I was top 200 on the first go round and like top 1500 on the 2nd go round. Funny things happen when, ya know, actual games are played :)A more important question right now is what was the fate of 14-QB guy? :) -QG

This entry is still alive.

I think my RB's are going to kill me.

Am I dreaming or did everyone make the cut in week 1 last year?
last year there was a very small amount cut (like a couple hundred).Btw, fwiw I was a 3 QB, 3 K, 24-roster guy. Sometimes it just ain't your day.

Will be curious to see the breakdown.

-QG
Last Year's first cut was at 112.85 points and 623 teams went down. Interestingly, the Turk scored exactly 112.85 points and survived.

My RBs would have killed me this week had my WR and TE not done as well. Very happy with almost all my players. Slaton was brutal, but I don't see this as a trend.

QB - Donovan McNabb - 24

QB - David Garrard - 18

QB - Byron Leftwich - 4

RB - Steve Slaton - 37

RB - Willie Parker - 16

RB - Leon Washington - 12

TE - Jermichael Finley - 3

PK - Josh Scobee - 2

PK - Shayne Graham - 2

PK - Josh Brown - 1

TD - Green Bay Packers - 3

TD - Washington Redskins - 3

Beat the cut-off by around 28 FPs. I think five of the top six players I spent money on in the contest (Rodgers, Palmer, Turner, Boldin and Parker) did NOTHING for me though...so I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I'm thinking how they'd better start earning their keep, or I won't even make it to NFL Week 3! On the other hand, I'm feeling optimistic...since I made it into the middle of the pack with none of those guys doing anything notable on the field. Leftwich, Celek and Z. Miller saved my rear-end though...or I would have been one-and-done.

Made it...even though some of my guys (ie. Rodgers and Schaub) didn't put up the best of numbers.

This entry is still alive.
