Word of advice to new Oblivion players: DON'T EVER, EVER ACCEPT ANY OFFER TO BECOME A VAMPIRE.

Annoying as #### when you can't crap during the day.

Question: (highlight)

Where do I find the soul stones so I can get rid of this vampire crap, or is there an easier way/cheat to get rid of it?  It's really pissing me off.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well, on the PC, you can always ~ then player.AddItem <0009812D> <number>Otherwise, you have to collect the stones at the various mage guilds, then run a bunch of other errands as well. I hated it, but some enjoy the extra powers being a vampire gives.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
THANK YOU!!!!That dungeon by Skingrad is driving me nuts, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. This definitely helps, much appreciated!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ok, did the add item trick, but it shows up as a misc item and I can't do anything with it? Should I be doing something to "activate" it or something to that effect?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It's an empty gem there is no activating it. The old witch in the cabin wants empty soul gems.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I thought that additem actually gave you the cure (I haven't used it). I assumed you just took it back to the king at Skinguard and got your reward.

Question:

In one the Emperial City quests named "Unfriendly Competition" you eventually get a key to a tomb.

After the quest is complete you get to keep the key for the tomb and the door stays locked.

Could you use the tomb to store your stuff or would your lewt disappear after a few days???

I need a place to store lewt and I don't want to spend the $ for a house.

So, I finished the theives guild quests tonight, and

spoilers

as soon as the countess and the grey fox said their bit, dude gave me the grey cowl.   I put it on in the lobby and immediately got ####### macked by like 8 guards.   I guess you should only use this thing when you are sneaking around?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
the grey fox cowl always carries a bounty of atleast 500 so if you put it on in open areas guards will see you and start chasing you. If you put it on and they see you and you quickly take it off but they will still chase you. Once they get to you (and you don't have the mask on) they will initiate a conversation and you can just cancel out and go about your business. If they see you take the mask off and still attack you - then you have to block the soliders attack and start a conversation with him and he will stop and walk away. The mask may seem disappointing at first but it is awesome for cave/ruin exploring. You get 200pts feather, +25 sneak and detect life for 125ft. With the detect life spell of that power you can see enemies through walls.

Also the cowl gives you a second identity. If you kill/steal from someone with the grey fox cowl on - the bounty will be against the grey fox and not you.

The cowl is cool once you start using it for its strengths.

one other note too - you have to be careful if a guard sees you enter a house. I had the cowl on one time when I was entering the theives guild house to stash my stuff. I thought the guard didn't see me but I was wrong. After I unloaded my stuff in one of the trunks in the guildmasters bedroom, I turned around and there was an Imperial guard in my room  luckily I had taken the mask off when I got to the bedroom but the fact that he still followed me was interesting. So be careful.

There's two in the basement of her house

Starting to encounter Minotaurs and Spraggans a lot more now.  NTM those pesky Will-O-Wisps.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
WoWs are the biggest pain. Spriggans aren't so bad if you can get to them early.Found an interesting place last night. Just SW of Bruma, straight east of Underpall and north of the (Orange?) Road, there's a small pond that's surrounded by all kinds of rare flowers, including a nirnroot. There was at least 5 I'd never seen before. There's an ayeleid (sp) shrine just south of the road from there.

There's also a chest at the bottom of the pond, which I discovered about the time a bear discovered me.

Just closed the gate at Kvatch at Level 16 - Daedra, Clannfear and other assorted nasties only  Not terrible one on one, but everything was a swarm. Took me a bit longer to clear it than I expected, but the scenery was cool

The DB quests are pretty cool, and the sheer magnitude of all the new places popping up on my map is overwhelming but sweeeeet. This thing is gonna take forever, and I'm gonna enjoy the ride

Closing that gate is not so bad...when you go back to clear the chapel area in Kvatch...that was a FPITA for me....getting gangraped by 12 strom attrachs, clannfear, Xiuili (wtf they called), Spider Daedra all at once (I know I probably just spelled all of those wrong...bite me.) Ugh. It probably took me 25 tries to get through. My advice....hopefully you have the staff of paralysis by now....get one to follow you into a corner away from the group -- paraylze and wear them out.

Is this like the rest of the game, where it tunes the encounters to your level? Maybe it would be better to go after this now (I'm level 17 or so) rather than whatever level you were(?)

I don't have the staff of paralysis, but the staff of lightning worked pretty dang well - only two hits at a crack to kill or maim most of the nasties. Those dang spider daedra sending out all their little ones were a big ol' pain. I had to get all Wizard-like on 'em and summon a bunch of zombie/ghost help to keep most of the baddies busy while I went around whacking anything that was currently occupied with my minions :nerd:

that would have been a big help...I didn't have any conjuration skills back then so I was all by my damn self.

i am level 24 and a theif character so I have to attack from the shadows. I will probably get oVVned when I start closing the gates. I am fighting the strom attrachs, clannfear, Xiuili (wtf they called), Spider Daedra now just like ahrn and its not fun.

I am burning in my new Opty 165 and hope to have it running at 2.6 GHz (FX-60 level) by tonight. Oblivion is one of the first games to really use dual-core CPU's, so it will be interesting to see what results I can get in FPS here.

I was active in this thread a while ago, but I took some time away from this game....back now. I'm currently just focusing mostly on the main quest. (Slight Spoilers ahead) I've just gone into their lair to steal that book from the cult. I brought it back to the king and he said it'll take him a while to study it. For now, he said to go talk more to Jaufree.

Solid fun game, but I don't think its a perfect game by any means.

Some bizarre tips on spellcasting here. This guy obviously has a lot of time on his hands.
:lmao: I could not stop laughing at this one - "taint" magic
have presented the fundaments of taint magic to the council of mages and their initial reaction is, perhaps understandably, that it should be banned from use. With enough patience, even a mediocre mage could theoretically summon a single massive fireball and destroy the entire Arcanum! To address that, the council has already given me permission to use the taint to reinforce the Arcanum walls with a starlight-charged 100% resistance to magic, which of course gives immunity even to weakness to magic.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OK next question ... the advanced trainers (master trainers? -- the folks who have to get a quest done before they will help you).

If your level is already at 100 for the skill they teach, do you get any further benefit from their training? I have armorer, blade, alchemy, and one or two others at 100. Wondering if I should bother with these quests I have to get more training.

don't bother, if your level is at 100 that is as high as you can go without using enchanted items, magic, etc...

Has anyone found a mod that lets you assign spells to more then 8 keys?

Has anyone gotten in trouble with the locals or been removed from the mages guild for summoning the undead/creatures? Everyone so often someone I walk past says 'You smell of death. Conjuring up dead things?' or something to that affect.

What's the best summon to have? Right now, I'm using the frost atronach.

I thought the Prince of Worms was disapointingly weak for a "main" guy.
Seriously. No armor and uses a silver dagger. Didnt even cast any spells.
Yeah he was a disappointment. Interesting staff though. I haven't tried it yet as I'm not a staff wielder.
All it does is briefly reanimate humans. Its pretty cool to watch, but useless in practice.
Good for soul trapping. Kill, trap soul, re-animate. Wash, winse, repeat for as many empty soul gems you have

This thread is slowly dying.

Has anyone here finished yet? I feel like I am probably getting kind of close.

I've finished all the guild quests (mage, fighters, thieves, DB) and I've gotten all the aid for Bruma by closing the Oblivion Gates outside Kvatch, Anvil, Chorral, Skingrad, and Lleyowyn (sp?).

besides cave diving and random misc quests, all I have left is the main storyline. I've given Martin the books and he's begun to decipher the thing, he just sent me to get the Armor of Tiber Septim.

With 6 or 7 Obl gates closed, and not much left to do on the side, I'm thinking I'll probably finish it this week sometime. Anyone else done? How much more do I have?

I'm nowhere near done, although I am getting tired. Trying to find these Garridan's Tears. I whacked the atronach (sp), but am now just wandering around freezing, trying to find something.

Still hoping HOMMV doesn't suck.

If you want some help finding them...here's some clues/a psuedo map

All 5 are in the vicinity of that iceberg / iceblock thing in the center. One is on top of it and 4 are on the ground very close to it -- maybe 4-6 feet away from the base. IIRC there theres two of them between 9 and 12 o'clock, one at about 2 o'clock and one at about 5 o'clock.

Bump

I'm nowhere near finished. I've only closed the Kvatch Oblivion Gate, and am not yet done with all the guild quests. I've got a ways to go yet...

Don't forget all the deadric shrine quests. The reward for the last quest is super-green

88 hours still haven't started the main quest.

Right now I am doing the Aleyid Statue quest, this is going to take a while, but it serves 2 purposes, exploring shrines for some sweet loot and two for getting paid for each statue.

BTW I finally found a glass helm. About effin time.

Note if you do the Aleyid Statue quest, you have to have one in your posession first, then go to Ulmbranico (spelling is wrong I know) he is in the talos district. His house is on the inside part of where the main statue is in the center of the area. And you will speak with his assistant and meet Ulmbranico and start the quest. Once you have a few, he will give you a new quest to get a piece of a wall. You accept and exit his house and you meet a fellow treasure hunter. Meet him in the bar as he requests and get all the info you can from him (you will have to raise his disposition towards you). After you compete the quest he will be waiting outside with 3 other people and will demand the piece of the wall. Refuse and get into a battle with all of them.

Each person has amamzing armor and weapons. I got a full set of daedric and ebony armor, an enchanted glass cuirass with 30% chamelon, glass helm, and close to 100 of each type of arrow in the game.

Some great loot to be had from that part of the quest.

I've accepeted two quests from people who want to add to their collections, is what you're talking about? They just seemed boring. Is it worth following up on? Also, what means "super-green" ?
