***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (3 Viewers)

I haven't watched any eps this half season. Seems like a good bit of chatter in here...which I'm skipping in case it's about a good direction the show has gone. 

Has it gotten better? If not, I'm actually at the point where there's enough other stuff out there to watch that isn't...well...terrible- and I'm finally ready to pull the plug. I've finally realized that after all this goofily bad writing in the show, I don't give enough of a crap about any of it to even remember to tune in later in the week.

 
The writers can't get out of their own way... Not only don't you have to smell like the walkers to blend in, like the past... You don't even need to wear the faces..

All you have to do is to talk in a whisper and walk like them and all is good...

Can we get Martin Sheen to come in and bump Col. Kurtz off please?

Loved it when Lurch Whisperer put her mask about 15 feet up in that tree for safe keeping though.

 
Alpha is easily the worst villain in the history of the show. Makes the governor look like Heath Ledger as the joker.

Just brutal.

Ugh, I don’t even want to watch it now. I figured they would be in full body suits or at least ratty clothes that are covered in guts. If they are just dirty and making whisper noises, that’s just terrible and lazy.

Basically don't bathe so you stink, wear a face cut off a walker and walk like them and you are good.. and if you don't have a mask yet.. That's OK, just stand in the middle of those that have one.. oh...  and feel free to carry on a conversation.. again, as long as long as you whisper, all is good.

and don't forget.. we have the county fair to look forward to!! :excited:

 
No. I’m not watching until the season’s over now. Then I can breeze through it. I’m just sad that they ruined a concept that could have easily brought the show back. We shouldn’t even know who Alpha is at this point. They should still just be terrorizing the good guys and killing the subpar and cheap actors we don’t give a rat’s ### about. 

 
i stopped watching and deleted it from my DVR and cancelled future recordings.

reminds me of sons of anarchy-  started out good, then got unwatchable.      Andrew Lincoln was smart to get out early

Same here.. I check in on this thread once in awhile to see if it's worth picking back up..  I went from never missing an episode and waiting for Sunday nights, to forgetting it's even still on..

I've joked and griped about the show over the years, but I always enjoyed it. but the writing at micro and macro levels has plummeted in the last couple years... this is the first return from break I've just not cared about what's happening. 

I was really hoping the show would get into next steps of building a society, and not just rinse-repeat "cartoony bad-guy trying to wreck things".

unless I find some time or interest somewhere down the road, I'm done with it. too bad too, because I like the post-apoc genre. I'll keep checking in here just in case things pick back up, but it sounds like I've picked the right time to pull the plug.

 
Pretty clear the budget has been slashed bigtime.  Reminds me of the difference between the first Wrong Turn and the last.  Went from great makeup to 3 dollar masks.

Yea, seems more and more they sense the end is near so are trying to rush to making next season the last. I have no idea what happens in the comics after the Gov, but based on what others have said, at this rate they will be able to catch up by then.

Seems more and more that series need to set 5 years as the mark to end so they don't end up in the "Please end already!!!" Spot.. :bye:

 
Enjoyed the first gruesome kill by Alpha, then was ready for another one and I think she just stared at the guy, whispered sweet nothings to him then stabbed him in the ribs??  Then proceeded to doze for a few minutes. Didn't even bother rewinding it. 

 
Not enough Carol, too much Henry, and why in the hell is Neagan back in jail?  He came back for crying out loud.  Terrible writing.  No characters are really standing out for anyone to attach to.  Carol could be, but she isn’t on enough and the Susie homemaker with the king is boring.  I miss Glenn, Abraham, Hershel, Dale, Merle, and TC.   These characters make me even miss Andrea and that is saying something. Hell, kill Henry and Gabriel already.  Not liking Mashonne anymore either.  The only one I like now is Judith.

I'm intrigued by how they handle the Negan situation.  What is his role going forward?  That will keep me tuning in.  

Not many redeeming qualities left in the show, just staying on because I have too much time invested and I do want to see where it goes, even though the writing is horrible and I don't care about the vast majority of the characters.

The Beta guy (Ryan Hurst) has me a bit interested though.

Didn't even know that was who was playing Beta.  Speaking of SoA.

 
I think one of the main drivers of disdain for the show is that the potential for greatness is right there for the taking.

My favorite horror movies are ones in which the characters do all of the things I would do, yet are still in peril and being terrorized.  On the other end of that spectrum, nothing takes me out of a movie/show quicker than character decisions that are solely based on plot movement.  That Henry kid is killing me.

100% agree. You could ignore some of those in the past seasons because they still went somewhere good and they weren’t the entire story line. Now it’s just so awful and using characters we have no stake in and are so bad that you’ll never like them. I long for even seeing Lori again. Even Andrea was better. They were annoying sometimes but at least Lori always acted to save Carl and didn’t risk their lives for an enemy baby or some girl they just met who will start a war killing way more than just one person.

My disdain this season is because this could have been spectacular and gotten us back to a darker show. We shouldn’t even know Alpha yet. We should have seen at least a dozen sneak attack deaths that have our good guys really rattled. Instead we get Eugene making gifts for a couple who make no sense and their baby daddy. WTF do we need that for? I would have loved to see Daryl tracking only to see Henry staked to a tree through the head. Instead we’ve got a brewing Romeo and freaking Juliet story.

Such a sad state of affairs for what used to be a great show. Instead we have a group that supposedly lives among the walkers yet we literally always see them without walkers.

The fact that she’s banging the priest is a non-starter. Again, shows how bad the show is now that she went from being a bad ### screwing Abraham in front of Eugene to the priest. The writers have ruined the only talent we have left. Daryl risking everyone to save the girl. Carol and the king. Rosita and the priest. Is there anyone we even like now?

It has become my show to watch while on the treadmill. i.e. Filler. I have to say, this week was tough to get through. I almost turned it off a few times because it was just BORING. There was nothing of interest. Will they rescue Henry? Who cares. Hopefully not. Oh darn, they did. Will Priest guy give prego chick her stretchy pants? Don't care. Not even a little. Will Michonne let them go to the fair? Who gives a ####? Seriously, there was not one point of interest in the entire 60 minutes.

Can we get Dawg to turn on Henry? Maybe like "Oh man, we made it back to camp!" And then Dawg gets spooked and rips Henry's throat out. That would be entertaining.

 
I think a boost to the show would be if all of them get overrun at all 3 locations (Hill Top, Alexandria, and the Kingdom) had to go on the road to survive.  Go back to the roots of the show.  Henry has to die.  I can't stand him.  Kill the priest and Rosita too.  I long to see the bad$ss (sorry for the filter, but it needs to be said in this context) side of Carol.  I hate her as lovey dovey Carol.

 
Count me on the team that has hung on too long. My kids hated Coral, and they got their wish for him to die. Yet, Eugene, one of the most awful TV characters of all time  goofballs on. Why couldn't Carol have taken Eugene  into the backyard to look at the flowers? Well at least Coral/Henry has come back to annoy my kids

Last week's episode just showed the biggest disconnect between what the writers think, and what the viewers think.  I can't imagine one single viewer that cares even the tiniest iota about the Rosita/Gabriel/Siddiq/Eugene love trapezoid that's going on, yet they dedicated a solid 20 minutes to it last week.  Siddiq's had maybe 10 minutes on screen since Coral died, Gabe has always been a useless character, and they ignore Rosita too much.  I like Eugene but it's obvious the writers have no idea what to do with him now that he's not making bullets or spouting "I have the cure" BS to Abraham, so it's like they just said "what can we do with him?  Oh I know, throw him into the mix for Rosita while we're at it.  And have him scrounge up some yoga pants, the darling knight that he is, people will swoon for him again".  

That whole situation was hastily thrown together. It felt like in a 5 minute span we find out Rosita is with Gabe, but wait she used to be with Siddiq, and she's preggo, and oh yeah Eugene pines for her too.  Got it?  Now go care about them.

First worthwhile 5 minutes in a long time..

Daryl vs. Beta :boxing:   is worth the time to fast forward through the other crap.

So Darryl could pop the redshirt Whisperer from 6 stories up, but needs Beta to come up to him. Makes sense.

Wasn’t even a Whisperer any more, wasn’t that the one that died at the beginning of the episode?

Other than making a mockery of the “you’ll always be one of us”, line, pretty much a wasted bolt, other than to tell them which building to come into.

 
Loved it before, hate it now. Why am I still watching???? Pet peeves:

  • Why are the scenes so dark? As in you can't see anything. It's like CSI, everything has to be in the dark so much that you can't tell who anybody is.
  • Every new group has to have some psychotic leader. That talks weird.
  • New groups have to have some bizarre dress code, all black garbage people, the Kingdom wears football pads as if that would stop anything, the whisperer's masks, the Highwaymen wearing outfits that look like they came from Madam Tussauds, etc.
  • Tara is a leader? Enid is a doctor?? Judith is a badass at nine years old???
  • After battles or fights, no one goes back to get the weapons? Arrows, knives, guns are totally expendable.
  • If other groups are so dangerous, why not wipe them out when you get the chance? Better to just talk first. Always seems like a James Bond villain. Let's make sure we show them how smart we think we are instead of getting the job done.
  • Every new group, and every new couple, has to be politically correct.
  • With all the really dangerous weapons that are available, why does a stick seem to be the weapon of choice? Really, a stick? I guess you get to look fancy, waiving it around.
  • Walkers aren't really a threat. Now they are merely an inconvenience, sort of like flies.
  • If they do have a dangerous walker they show up in stealth mode, no moaning or even footsteps until it's too late.
  • The mutual admiration society that is Talking Dead. And why does some actor qualify as a superfan who's opinions matter more than anyone else's?
   Had to vent. TIA
