I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Stay strong. He raised the limit to reading a 1000 posts a day but it doesn't take long to reach that if you are viewing what is trending or items that are in the news (like Baltimore mass shooting). I reached my rate limit after a hour yesterday and am OK so far, but don't know how long that will last today (I have been using Google to look at breaking news items).
This....also tweet deck is a good option for those familiar with it. I've used it extensively for several years. No problems on my end at allLists makes twitter so easy to read and also doesn’t count against any limits
Yup. I never had a twitter account and now can't see any tweets. Lame. You can no longer view tweets unless logged in. So if someone sends you a link and it opens in your browser, it'll fail for anyone without an account or if you're not signed in.
Musk said they were limiting users which is of course total nonsense being that it’s an advertising-driven site. Reports last night said they didn’t pay the bill at their last hosting site and were kicked off as of 6/30. Anybody know of any similar sites to use? Saw somebody mention blue sky but it is in beta mode.
I just want a news aggregator. So annoying.
Yeah rumor is he was late on the bandwidth payment and got the service limited. Came up with the new policy as cover story for the sites limited functionality. If/when he scrapes together the cash owed, he'll announce he's listened to the feedback and restore things to the way they were.
Anybody here use Bluesky or Spill? They both require invites from other users, but I’m curious to check them out.

The guy that had the knight schtick on here was funnier than this.
Deity: I have limited your spells to 6 per day.
Cleric: What? That's not even close to enough. Why?
D: Too many prayer requests.
C: How does that even...
D: Cleric+ users can get 60.
C: What? I'm not paying for miracles!
D: Sounds like you hate free speech.
Mods are still unhappy, some Reddits have gone dark/private. None of the issues have been resolved, and mods will be lost.Right ,still having issues with users and shutting down subreddits? It will continue on, I just don't know if what made it popular (Reddit users passionate about a subject) will still be there.
I think you missed my point....when you click on that Reddit link, it shows the Elon tweet from awhile back when he said he would put all major changes to a vote. They have put expensive restrictions on the API causing 3rd party apps like Apollo to shut down.Isn’t Reddit also experience massive problems with their CEO with users shutting down popular threads or did that get resolved?Reddit - Dive into anything

Yep, Twitter is dead to us.Something went wrong. Try reloading.
This is all I get when someone posts a link to a tweet.

That's big news
Instagram is launching a Twitter competitor called threads in a few days. Definitely gonna DL and try it out.
Quality of human beings aside, my impression is the Zuck would be less likely to go messing with the noticeable user experience.Instagram is launching a Twitter competitor called threads in a few days. Definitely gonna DL and try it out.
Isn't Instagram part of the Facebook umbrella? Why would that be any more trustworthy or worthy of support than Twitter? Musk and Zuckerberg both seem...well, I generally won't speak ill of people I don't know, so I'll say that they seem about equal in their malfeasances. But Musk produces cars, so at least that's useful.
Yea as pollard said musk has made Twitter actively worse and in some cases unusable. Zuckerberg is an all-time bad human but his sites generally work well at least.Instagram is launching a Twitter competitor called threads in a few days. Definitely gonna DL and try it out.

Besides the other day twitter has had less issues on my end than previously. Gone are the days when it would go down randomly.I don’t get the hysteria over Musk , no one has done more to move e-card forward and maybe the climate agenda. Musk & Zuckerberg are in the same club, no good guys., shares of gray.Instagram is launching a Twitter competitor called threads in a few days. Definitely gonna DL and try it out.

Currently, the restrictions affect a small percentage of people using the platform, and we will provide an update when the work is complete. As it relates to our customers, effects on advertising have been minimal.

Somehow, I doubt that. The "small percentage of people" has included me and many of those that I follow and my followers.

I’ve never had any meaningful issue, dont understand the hand wringing over a message board.Until yesterday my personal Twitter experience had not been any worse than it was pre-acquisition. Very curious as to what’s really going on.

I can only read 1,000 tweets a day, is that the big deal? And if I want to read 10,000 it’s $8. $0.0008 per tweet.
I see little reason to believe this.Update on Twitter's Rate Limits

To ensure the authenticity of our user base we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform. That’s why we temporarily limited usage so we could detect and eliminate bots and other bad actors that are harming the platform. Any advance notice on these actions would have allowed bad actors to alter their behavior to evade detection.
At a high level, we are working to prevent these accounts from 1) scraping people’s public Twitter data to build AI models and 2) manipulating people and conversation on the platform in various ways.

While this work will never be done, we’re all deeply committed to making Twitter a better place for everyone.
At times, even for a brief moment, you must slow down to speed up.
We appreciate your patience.

Will definitely be giving this a shot as well. I'm interested to see if any of the major news breakers migrate there - personally, those accounts are the only thing keeping me on Twitter. If Woj, Schefter, etc. join Threads, I have no reason to go back.Instagram is launching a Twitter competitor called threads in a few days. Definitely gonna DL and try it out.
Maybe it’s because 90% of my follows are sports related and the other are 9.5% friends that don’t tweet newsie stuff, but my experience isn’t like that at all. My For You tab is almost entirely related to sports. I follow exactly one political commentator that I like and I may get a few political things sprinkled in, but not much. And I get no click/rage-bait stuff other than occasional advertisement tweets.I can't decide whether the "For You" tab is terrible or fantastic. On one hand, every time I open that tab, I'm inundated with videos involving people getting into fights, road rage incidents, police shootings, etc. It doesn't seem to matter how many accounts I block -- they just keep coming. (No explanation necessary -- I know why the algorithm is pushing engagement-bait). On the other hand, that algorithm also does a good job of showing me accounts that run contrary to the general slant of my "Following" tab, which is good because I want to be exposed to contrary points of view.
Honestly, if they gave me the option to tell the algorithm "No video of any kind in the For You tab," I'd probably spend more time there.
I get some clicky short video aggregators, and I always seem to see a lot of Twitter accounts that are verified, and have a 'subscribe' option.Maybe it’s because 90% of my follows are sports related and the other are 9.5% friends that don’t tweet newsie stuff, but my experience isn’t like that at all. Kind of interesting that if you follow a lot of political accounts (as I do), the algorithm assumes that you're a violent psychopath who wants to see harm being inflicted on other people. That explains a lot.Maybe it’s because 90% of my follows are sports related and the other are 9.5% friends that don’t tweet newsie stuff, but my experience isn’t like that at all. Same here . It’s crazy how much violence is being “suggested” for meevery time I open that tab, I'm inundated with videos involving people getting into fights, road rage incidents, police shootings, etc.
Same here and I really don’t follow that much political stuff. I’ve had to block several large accounts because I don’t want to see violence like that. A funny but harmless brawl at a Waffle House here and there is funny but I don’t want to see dogs being hit by cars, serious fights with weapons, etc.Same here .
