Advertisers are not his customers. They are paying him to use his platform.Telling your customers to “GFY.” It’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for them.
This is what Musk has completely screwed up. Advertisers are absolutely the customer of Twitter.
At its core - Twitter is no different than any other internet site. As with most media - content is king. Twitter built a robust business model where you had lots of people providing content - for free! From news media personalities, to sports and entertainment celebrities, to other content producers - and even the little guys like me with just hundreds of followers, not millions - they were all providing free content - and that was driving millions of eyeballs to the site.
The previous owners had not quite figured out how to effectively monetize that - but they were on the right track with the ad revenue model.
One of the first things Musk did - is drive away a lot of his content providers, and diminished their value by eliminating the verified users, and going to a pay-to-play model. By amplifying the paid users, at the expense of key content producers - you are both risking the quality content, but also the quantity of content - and that will reduce eyeballs, and the value of the advertising space. And, this is before you even consider the actual content - much of which advertisers find objectionable - and thus don't want their ads showing up in close proximity to extreme views.
Once again everyone is forgetting (or ignoring) that the OmG ExtrMe Nazi stuff was manipulated and forced- it didn’t happen naturally.
Yes, that is the allegation in the lawsuit. Will be interesting to see the evidence as the case develops.
