***Official*** Washington Redskins 2015 Offseason Thread (3 Viewers)

OK, two things:

1. Does anyone have a link to the McCloughan audio...sounds like a good listen.

2. Who gives a better presser..McCloughan or Allen?
1. CSN Washington or Redskins.com might have it up soon

2. McCloughan and it isn't even close
McCloughan is like meat and potatoes.

Allen is like a garnish.
If McCloughan can teach Gruden how to handle media it will be a huge improvement!

Some big takeaways from McCloughan press conference:

1. He answers questions very quickly and knows what he wants to say. He knows what he is talking about and likes talking about it.

2. "The draft is the life line of the organization"

3. There are good NFL players in every round of the draft.

4. Strongly believes drafting best player available.

5. "Tape is a DNA of the player"

6. You don't play the game is shorts (referring to the combine)

7. First lesson was not to dabble in free agency. But he said he would be a little more aggressive than that.

What I liked is he hit on things Skins fan have been saying for YEARS:

1. Starts with the big guys on the lines

2. Can never have enough offensive linemen

3. Draft BPA

4. Game isn't played in shorts and a t-shirt

5. Can't build a team through FA

6. Draft is your lifeline

It's so weird to hear things like that from Redskins Park.

im getn a gawddam hard on! love me some scot!

best feeling about our direction as an organization in oh, about 16 years.

BONER!!!1!!
Nittany, you have been pretty outspoken about how this team's problems stem from dysfunction at the top. While this is certainly change toward the top of the organization, it is not change at the "tippy top"...e.g. Snyder is still owner and Bruce still second in command.

Based on what you know, to what extent will Snyder actually allow McC to work and make decisions as he sees fit. McC has the chops...will he have the authority?

2. Who gives a better presser..McCloughan or Allen?
Bruce Allen is an empty suit.

Hiring McCloughan is definitely a positive step for the 'Skins. He's got an eye for talent.

Having said that for what it's worth, this is the guy who picked Alex Smith as the #1 overall pick for the Niners over Aaron Rodgers.

McCloughan on 980: "You don't give up on a young QB who took you to the playoffs. You don't give up on a young QB unless you have to."
Talking about Cousins, right?
He said that he liked both coming out and that they both won a lot in college. Then he said so did Colt McCoy. I thought he handled questions on the quagmire of QB very well. It's nice to see someone that's seems pretty smart in a position of power. Allen and Gruden always come across as such dolts.

Everyone here loving the BPA idea better not ##### if we go LB or WR. I think you need yo have an equation of BPA and need. Amari Cooper might be better than the top Tackle, but the team will be better adding a starting Tackle instead of a WR.

With the emphasises that he was making on having big players on both sides of the LOS and big corners I doubt this would be an issue.

I think if people are looking for a "shocking BPA" type pick it would be Marcus Peters, potential shut-down CB with some character questions. Positional importance is in his favor, compared to taking a non-BPA OL or DL just because.

Depends how he interviews, but he'd be a slam-dunk top-8 pick without the character questions. I could see a guy like him before a guy like Cooper who I question would even be the BPA at 5 in any scenario.

I thought he explained pretty well why he favors BPA. Keep adding the best football players you can and they are the ones who help you win down the road. To me, "needs" is too much of a short term philosophy. Your needs can change year to year. WR may not be a need today, but it could be next year or the year after that. Don't pass on a better player just because they don't address an immediate need.

Matt Millen? Is that you?
 I share your pessimism but all he was saying is standard lip service, also just saying what we've been saying in this thread for years. Sounded to me the positions he'd like to focus on was Oline/Dline and cornerback, all of which we need.

I just hate people who scream BPA with zero caveats. That's the philosophy that could theoretically land you 3 straight top 10 WRs.

Sorry I thought you meant the new GM.

I wouldn't have any issues with a wr, if he was bpa. Garcon, djax, and Roberts wont be her the next time we are competitive anyway.

My bad. I should have quoted dgreen

Today I bring you two articles where writers just made up crap about the Skins offseason. How do these people have jobs?

1. Linked Article title..."Redskins likely to pursue Frank Gore in free agency". Yet nothing in the story actually states they will be pursuing him other than the title. Apparently since McCloughan liked him in SF and he's a free agent, that equates to the Redskins pursuing him ??? Solid information here Gabrielle <_< http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2015-01-10/frank-gore-free-agent-rumors-49ers-niners-redskins-running-back

2. Linked Article title..."Is Mike Iupati a Possibility?" After glorifying Iupati's run blocking and of course that he is in SF, the article closes with "Iupati landing in D.C. isn’t impossible, just very improbable." Great analysis here Andrew Long. Your whole article is dedicated to how the Skins need Iupati and that he's an upgrade over Luavlo (who isn't?), but you close with it's improbable Iupati will be here. So the point of us reading this was??? http://nflspinzone.com/2015/01/10/washington-redskins-free-agency-mike-iupati-possibility/

More analysis like this and I'm sure they'll both grab a Pulitzer soon.

Outside of a couple of the local guys (Kiem, Tandler, Snider) there's not much in the way of quality Redskins news, especially from the national sites. Feel like they just throw crap against the wall and see what will stick. Give it a few weeks and we'll be linked to every big name FA on the market, because Redskins.

If you needed a reason to be reminded what whiny little #####es Cowboys fans are check out the Dez Bryant catch thread. Jesus.

Here is another odd thought about the Redskins.

When the Redskins were announcing the hiring of McLoughin, I saw same media outlets saying how Daniel Snyder is always willing to spend money. There is actually a dichotomy here, where he will spend lavishly on free agents and coaches, but he has a reputation of being pretty cheap on other parts of the team. Then I read a comment from John Keim that the Redskins have one of the smallest scouting departments.

McLoughin is stating that the draft is the lifeline of the team. I certainly hope they beef up the scouting department. It seems that is really one area of the team Snyder should be spending the most money to have the best people or just have more of them.

I have a feeling Scot will do just that, beef up the scouting department and the infrastructure of the team and FO.

But, he did say he'd go through FA and draft #1 with the scouts already in-house (which is normal) and let them prove themselves to him.

So I think most of the big FO changes will come post draft.

Now I realize most may believe in or still have faith in RG3.. But for those who had any doubts, how comfortable would you be in taking Cardale Jones in the 1st round? I think Id actually want to take Ezekiel in the 1st, because Im sure most Teams may feel he is the more valuable player.

Basically Id really have to question my scout team, IF I couldn't land both Jones and Elliot.

p.s. I also posted in the Clevleand thread (because Jones is from OH) If you don't believe Jones is an unpolished BIG Ben, please consider posting your thoughts in that thread!

If your not part of the Solution,,,

I've also read that Redskins Park is a joke with pretty bad facilities.

Ridiculous hire. Clearly a buddy/buddy hire by Gruden/Allen. There is nothing in Barry's resume to say he is qualified. Unless you consider marrying a HC daughter a qualification.

I wonder when Snyder is going to figure out that Bruce Allen is syphoning money from his pockets for Allen's friends that have lost everywhere else. I don't think McCloughan would even be here if Snyder didn't force Allen's hand. Allen has already managed to relegate him to a personnel director, but under the title of GM.

Maybe this is just McCloughan letting Jay do his thing for a year before blowing everything up and starting over?

I don't remember who it was from or the exact wording, but I saw a great tweet about the DC hire. It was basically "they all end up hiring their unemployed buddies, I just wish Bruce had a better group of friends."

Looks like the Lions were last in the league in yards allowed and points allowed in his 2 years as DC.
Of course, Detroit was 28th in yards and 30th in points the year before Barry was DC and then last in both the year after he was gone. So, it's not like they were a good D without him.

If this hiring was done 2 weeks ago this fan base would have been furious that another Tampa Bay reject with the 0-16 Lions legacy was hired. But since apparently McCloughan is the savior of the franchise and is a genius people are now "curious and optimistic"
