Peterson charged with reckless or negligent injury to a child? (1 Viewer)

There obviously is a legal standard, that's why Peterson got indicted.

As the old adage goes if it ain't broke... Peterson likely thought his "whoopins" contributed to him becoming the football player that he is. I don't think it's that far-fetched. Even the research that argue against corporal punishment allow that those who received corporal punishment look upon the practice favorably.
You really don't get it, do you? That's the problem. Whoopins certainly did make him into the man he is -someone who administers whoopins. Football player? Not so much.
I wrote that to explain why people likely eschew studies and findings in favor of anedoctal personal experience, not to argue for or against corporal punishment. It will take some very damning evidence to change corporal punishment laws swiftly, like if school shootings were somehow inextricably linked to corporal punishment.

Regarding the second portion of your statement... this is what Peterson said in his statement: "I have always believed that the way my parents

disciplined me has a great deal to do with the success I have enjoyed as a man."

But I mean what does he know, it's only his life. We're all much more qualified to tell him what REALLY went down right?
If a tree falls in the woods and there is sworn testimony that it happened as well as pictures, did it really make a sound?

The "success he's enjoyed as a man" includes him beating his estranged kids bloody. Of course he doesn't know #### all about being a man/what it takes to become a man. A real man doesn't beat 4 year old children. The mere fact that I have to type this is ridiculous.

Really dislike politicians trying to force their opinions on private business. And I won't even get into a beer company preaching on morals, that is rich.

FWIW....He said the kid wasnt crying. He said had he known the end of the switch was wrapping around the kids leg and doing that he would have stopped.
I call BS on that and anyone who has kids knows it too - you bust a 4 year old and they're very likely going to cry - you switch beat them bloody and leaving a couple of dozen lashes and you don't think the kid cried ?

C'mon man

anyone who has any sense knows Peterson whipped that kid twice as many lashes as the bloody whelps show, and hard enough to wrap the switch around the legs

Peterson hit that 4 year old multiple multiple times over and over and over

fact

he shouldn't play for a while is my stand on it, way worse than Ray Ray left hooking his mouthy wife

Both instances are equally disturbing and repulsive.

I believe the adage of "walking a mile in another man's shoes" is applicable here. Did you grow up in the ghetto? Could you possibly have been lost to the streets as a child? It's likely Peterson's upbringing differs greatly than many on this board. Forget it, I don't even wanna go there. It's pretty evident we all have our opinions on the degree to which we should judge others and to debate that seems unworthwhile.

So he needs to walk a mile in his shoes down a completely made up path?

This line of argument works for murderers and pedophiles, too. Nice work.

IMO, if his happens after the activation and public statement? Instant lawsuit.

Profootballtalk reports the Vikings could "reverse course" on Monday's decision to reinstate Adrian Peterson.

Instead of dying down, the firestorm has only intensified since the Vikings welcomed back their franchise back, with the NFL looking into the case and the governor of Minnesota calling for AD to be suspended. Although the Vikes are unlikely to release Peterson outright like the Ravens did with Ray Rice, they'll probably do the same math. That would be concluding that the controversy isn't worth it, and suspending AD until his legal situation is resolved. He's less than 50-50 to be active for Week 3.

Lawsuit over what? This is America. If they cut him and pay him his guaranteed money what is he going to sue about? They can cut him because they think his Twitter is annoying, they don't feel like paying him, or because he's a child abuser, or for no reason whatsoever. NFL players get cut all the time for no reason other than the team doesn't want to pay them the weekly checks specified in their contracts. Nothing could be more ho-hum.He's employed in America not France.
Who said anything about cutting? Reading is fundamental. The point is, he can sue because they are affecting his future earnings by sitting him out in his prime, when he hasn't been found guilty of anything.
If he is deactivated he still is getting paid. Future earnings? He screwed himself on that one by having so many kids and then being too stupid to know how to properly take care of them. Your argument is poor and there is no way he can sue.

Also, think about this...how much do you think the Radison deal is worth? How many future sponsorships have the Vikings lost just through Peterson's actions? What about the NFL? You don't think they are losing money over this? If anyone has to worried about being sued, it should be AP, not the Vikings.
I understand your point. They would be paying him 1 million dollars per week to sit. The Vikings are in a worse situation than him IMO.

Hey, as for the guy who was dishing out the 'whoopings' to AP when he was a child, didn't he end up in prison? Only a total dipsh... would raise a child like a felon used to. And I really love the whole, "it's a cultural thing" like that is an excuse for beating a defenseless 4 year old child who just wants the love of a father he barely knows because his mother is some POS star-fudger. I seem to remember Mike Vick using the "it's a cultural thing" when he was attempting to justify dog fighting. Some cultural things really need to be brought out into the open so they can be corrected by society, and whipping children with sticks is one of those things.

The culture thing that folks here like chinawildman and dparker support is, in large part, what held up racism, segregation, and even lynching. You know, let people do what they want to do. Don't judge. It's disgusting views that like this that eventually will evolve with education, reason, and humanity, all of which are absent in the commentary by a small minority of posters who are doing their very best to advocate for child abuse.

It's repulsive, but I accept this is the mentality we are dealing with, plain and simple.

You should't be so quick to speak for others. My 6 year old cries when I speak to her in a stern voice. My cousin's 4 year old son, on the other hand, could run into a brick wall full speed and not shed a tear. Everyone, even as a kid, is different.

If you read some of the other alleged text between Peterson and the mother he says the kid got some "extra pops" and wasn't crying and is "tough as nails" and she basically says that "he's trying to be strong for you, he's not playing mind games."

I take that as Peterson was giving the kid a whooping and and kept going because the kid was not reacting and he felt like he needed to do more to have an effect. He didn't realize the damage he was doing until it had already happened. Peterson was wrong but I'm not going to demonize him like others have. Is that exactly what happened? I don't know. But I can form my own conclusions just like many here. And I just tend not to always assume or see the worst in people. Even when they do wrong.

As for the last comment about Ray Rice's wife. Well, your choice in words speaks for itself.

Why does one unfortunate incident have the ability to RUIN an individuals ability to make a living? I hope the Vikings stand tall against the PR outcry!

This is BS!

Anhauser-Busch has the the balls to throw stones at the NFL when the product that they manufacture and distribute ruins more lives and helps cause domestic violence incidents on a daily basis. I like Budweiser products and partake in consuming them - but Budweiser has NO BUSINESS chiming in on this topic.

I hope the NFL cuts ties with A-B as a result of this statement that they released.
I'm not a professional football player and somehow also manage to make a living. I'm not so certain it has ruined his ability to make a living as much as sustaining the income he's accustomed to. And yeah, if you make terrible decisions and have sponsorships you should expect them to not pay you any more.

Yeah, maybe he can get another job...

Rocket scientist - NO

HE IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER - maybe the best that I've ever seen.

Making a mistake like he has made should not be a death sentence!

I think that he can be saved/reformed and possibly be made as a strong voice versus child abuse.

That won't happen though - overly judgmental people want his head on a plate...

What exactly are you mad about?

Ignoring that culture thing, is in large part, responsible for imperialism, assimilation, and many cases of failed foreign aid where activists left communities they wanted to help in shambles because they felt like "knew better". You know, tell people what they SHOULD be doing. Judge. Paternalistic views like this will eventually die when pseudo-intellectuals stop thinking that they have all the answers to problems they are not qualified to solve.

Please don't pretend that education, reason, and humanity are somehow exclusive to your side of the argument, they're simply buzzwords that get you nowhere. It's obvious we're all well-spoken people who possess the ability to reason.

Being banned from playing in the NFL is not a "death sentence". And yeah, he can be a strong voice versus child abuse, just like Mike Vick is a strong voice against dog fighting and Travis Henry is a strong voice for wearing condoms.

And that is just pure and simple sad. Do I like what he did, no, but at face value these politicians, sponsors and public seem to be succumbing to public pressure. I hope the Vikings stand pat with their original decision and let this play out in the court system.

Being well-spoken is not a proxy for being well-reasoned or well-informed or humane.

If you want to make your arguments advocating child abuse, at least have the honesty to say you believe in child abuse. Otherwise, you're hiding behind buzzwords like imperialism and assimilation to manufacture a rationale to support physical abuse of black four-year-old children in every bit the same way the South argued for the right to own slaves and worse, supported lynching. This was the essence behind The War Against Northern Aggression, after all.

I feel these sponsors have been gouged for years by the NFL and now that theres blood in the water so their attacking. Budweiser can f-off for all I care, they have been ruining people's lives for over a 100 yrs.

The NFL created such a mess by bending over for the media with Ray Rice that now the public (and ESPN) thinks they can run the league by making loud noises. The guy isn't going to runaway, hes not escaping anything... hes going to get his day in court and then he'll get his punishment. Everybody needs to clam down; his legacy will be ruined and his Jersey will most likely not be retired.

On a side note I really hope that some good comes out of this one day. Its brought a lot to light for me (yes I live up North where if we heard of anybody doing this or see anybody doing anything similar to this they will be arrested) and I had no idea that this is even allowed in certain communities; it needs to change.

Agreed. I didn't know what a switch was and didn't think this situation would essentially prompt half of twitter to announce that their parents whipped them (or worse) when they were younger. Awareness is good.

That Adrian Peterson, such a charitable fellow.. what a guy

Outside the Lines examined IRS forms for Peterson's charity for the years 2008 through 2011 and found discrepancies between the All Day Foundation's stated mission of helping at-risk children and where much of its grants landed.

For the foundation's first four years, 2008 through 2011, its single largest beneficiary was Straight From The Heart Ministries (a ministry devoted to opposing gay rights) . More than 50 percent ($207,081 out of $414,130 in grants) was given by the All Day Foundation to Straight From The Heart. More recent IRS forms were not available for review.

the issue is that its not a cultural thing...its a socio economic thing.

I wish people would stop saying its apart of black culture...its nonsense.

its more of a poor undereducated thing.

Im black, and didnt get beat as a kid. And I know others that didnt.

you don't whip a kid 30-40 times or more with a switch that hard and not know what damage you're doing

and I call BS on the crying and I call BS on trying to make the kid sound like a superhero at 4 made of steel

I've been there and know that on switchings - Peterson whipped that kid bloody, fact, and with every lash knew what he was doing or he'd not have done it

big bad muscled up RB beating a 4 year old

and I'm all for whipping a kid - and strong punishment - but I've never ever seen a whipping like that in all the spankings/discipline I've ever seen and I doubt few here have and if you're seen as bad or worse you damned well know it was abuse

More than 50 percent ($207,081 out of $414,130 in grants) was given by the All Day Foundation to Straight From The Heart. More recent IRS forms were not available for review.

Special Olympics Minnesota backs out on their partnership with Peterson.

Special Olympics Minnesota, which announced a partnership with Peterson a few weeks ago, acknowledged that it has pulled away from the NFL star.

"On Tuesday, Sept. 9 we announced Adrian Peterson as an Ambassador for Unified Sports," said Lynn Shelander, director of marketing and communications for Special Olympics Minnesota. "However, in light of the information that has come out since then, we are abstaining from any engagement with Adrian Peterson at this time."

I know it's more fuel for the fire but almost any charity could be rip apart by its tax forms. I'm surprised that's the best they got.

And that is what you took from that? more of the same for apologists.. "But but but other charities cheat their tax forms."

Do other charities say they are helping at-risk youth and instead give over half their money to a bigoted organization whose goal is/was to suppress gay rights?

That's not bigoted in my view!

To each his own...

you don't whip a kid 30-40 times or more with a switch that hard and not know what damage you're doing

and I call BS on the crying and I call BS on trying to make the kid sound like a superhero at 4 made of steel

Now it's 30-40 times?

I added the part in parenthesis which is why its in parenthesis, should I have used brackets instead? And is this just more of deflecting, which apologists are good at? If you read the article the guy that runs it admitted as much.

Just because someone points out that a given story, tweet or fact isn't necessarily fiurther evidence that Peterson is the scum of the earth doesn't mean their are child abuse apologists. It likely means they are thinking people who can see that parts of a story can have shades of grey and the world isn't a black and white place.

I know that would be that this is a more complex and confusing world that you might prefer to live in, so feel free to keep up the mob mentality of the simple that, "You are either with us or against us!"
