QB Jameis Winston, NYG (3 Viewers)

Jameis Winston completed 5-of-11 passes for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ 21-14, Week 7 loss to the Bengals.

Winston was surprisingly relegated to the emergency third quarterback role prior to the Browns’ Week 7 game against the Bengals. After Deshaun Watson (Achilles) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (finger) both went down during the game, Winston came in and immediately led a touchdown-scoring drive in the fourth quarter. He attempted 11 passes on the drive, finding David Njoku for a jump ball in the back of the end zone and an eight-yard score. Winston also found Cedric Tillman for the two-point conversion, but a failed onside kick kept Winston and the offense on the sideline to close the game. With Watson likely out for the season, Winston and Thompson-Robinson are in consideration to start, though Winston has the better resume while Thompson-Robinson is now dealing with a finger injury. Winston enters the fantasy QB2 conversation should he be named the Browns starter.

It took Deshaun Watson getting injured and Dorian Thompson-Robinson going down as the backup QB for the Browns to finally go to Jameis Winston, as the emergency QB, while any NFL fan who has ever watched football knew Jameis was the best QB in that room.

Is Tillman fantasy relevant now?

Sources: The #Browns plan to start Jameis Winston at QB vs the #Ravens in Week 8, with Deshaun Watson out for the rest of the season.

My understanding is Dorian Thompson-Robinson was Watson’s backup on Sunday strictly from a gameplan standpoint.

Jameis Winston completed 27-of-41 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns in the Browns’ 29-24, Week 8 win over the Ravens.

The Jameis Winston Experience was on full display in Sunday’s win over the Ravens. Making his first start since 2022, Winston completed 12 passes of 10-plus yards on the day and put up three scores against a Ravens secondary that was short Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins. His first touchdown came on a 23-yard pass to a leaping David Njoku, while his last two passes came on distances off 22 and 38 yards to Cedric Tillman. Winston saw at least three would-be-interceptions bounce off the hands of Ravens defenders and lost a fumble late in the second quarter after being sacked by Kyle Hamilton. The Browns scored 20-plus points for the first time this season and will now look to repeat that performance in Week 9 against the Chargers. Winston will be a mid-QB2 in that outing.

Deshaun Watson played 19 games for the Browns and never threw for 300 yards.

Jameis Winston, in his first start, just threw for 334 yards and 3 TD’s against the 2nd hottest team in football. Wow.

Winston/Tillman stack was fun for the little DFS I play, should have bet more.

This guy slings it. Always has. I picked him up two weeks ago and dropped him in a roster crunch even though I have Mahomes and desperately need a QB. I lost the bid to re-up and get him. Fudge. This is going to come back and haunt me.

But back to Winston. He’ll have some boom days, but man . . . the turnover days are just frustrating with him. He’ll have a great game and look like he’s an All-Pro, and then the next game he’ll have three turnovers and submarine the team. Don’t forget that the Bucs had him and went out and got Brady and immediately went from .500 to champions.

But I like him and he’s good for the game with the style he plays and the exuberance he brings. He’s a weird cat for sure, but an interesting one.

I've actually always been a Winston fan. The dude chucks the football. Sure he makes a ton of mistakes but he is gonna throw the damn ball. The problem is he plays on a Browns team that wants to run the football and play defense.

Eat a W even.

Glad I hung onto Winston in SF. I don’t think I’ll start him most weeks but a 3rd decent QB is nice to have. He’ll be my 3 behind purdy and Caleb (although maybe he goes in ahead of Caleb?) and ahead of Rudolph.

I am curious as to his trade value. One guy was asking for veterans help him (Watson owner) but didn’t counter my offer where there was a lot involved but I put his value around a 2nd rounder.

Will Tillman continue to see heavy targets now that Winston is the guy and Amari is gone?

A quick note to all to perhaps temper expectations going forward as Winston played against a truly horrific Ravens pass defense yesterday, they make everyone look great. Even the Stache, Gardner Minshew, looked golden playing them. Winston is a known gunslinger so he'll get his but the Ravens dropped three in the hands ints that could well have changed the outcome of the game as well as Winston's fortunes.

Agreed on all this. And I'll still probably pick him up to be my starting QB over Mahomes. This is the world we live in.

I guess I'll be adding him this week after rolling out Caleb.
Shoot, you too? I'm grabbing Jameis if I can since I have Tillman.

You look at Jameis' history with big X receivers, and I think at the very least Tillman is goiing to be a big Red Zone threat; in the last 2 games he's already been the first read for two 2-pt conversions.

Oh definitely, but the thing is Jameis' history is he can definitely make his pass-catchers top plays whether it's positive game script or garbage time (a.k.a Bortles Time). The Browns' passcatcher went from fantasy wasteland to a sweet sweet fantasy baby...

"And now he has to overcome another obstacle so I'm gonna support him, I'm gonna lift him up and Im gonna be there for him"
Yeah and you're gonna take his job too

I think it's important to note or see on video clips that Winston on the pass PRIOR to the game winning TD, that pass was an interception or should have been picked off
We would be having a very different conversation today if Winston had ended the game on that poor throw
But instead he leads the team to victory and knock off one of the best teams in the NFL

-The Chargers are not world beaters, they play fundamentally sound football and use Herbert as mostly a game manager until maybe they have a lead and want to get frisky throwing it
It wont shock me to watch Cleveland hold serve again this week and get to 3-6 entering the Bye
Season still pretty much is over bu then they Saints -Steelers-Broncos-Steelers...I could see them beating the Saints and Broncos, splitting the Steelers
That would put them at 6-7, not great but would show the team is not nearly as bad as they appeared and would still be in the mix last month of the season

1 week at a time, gotta play the Bolts this week, i expect a very competitive football game

All kinds of “what ifs” in the NFL though, MoP. If the refs call a face mask on Bucky’s run and have a camera down the line for Pitts’ TD maybe the Bucs are 6-2 and in absolute control of the NFC South.

But, they aren’t.

Love that Jameis is getting another opportunity.

I wonder if they would have kept Amari Cooper if Winston took over earlier. This could have been a lethal offense with Cooper, Tillman, Juedy, Moore, Njoku, and Chubb.

Ouch. Hope no one had to start him today. I thought about it and then went with Mahomes. I can’t believe I even had to think about it.

The Chargers have a good defense. I'd give Winston a few more games before dropping him.

>>The Chargers have allowed the 3rd-fewest points per game by any team through 8 games in the last 15 seasons. The others in the top 4 made the playoffs and won at least 11 games.“It’s Jesse Minter … and we deep. We got a deep *** team.” - Derwin James.<<
