Well, when you build the entire offense around an elite athlete where nobody really can compare to the things he does well that team will suffer tremendously if he isn't in the game. Huntley did his best Lamar impression but he just isn't Lamar. Not a surprise Baltimore struggled when Lamar went down....Jackson’s importance to the team shows every time he takes a snap. Following a bone bruise suffered in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns, Jackson missed the final portion of the 2022 regular season, where Baltimore would not win a game and end up missing the playoffs for the first time since 2017

Totally agree. However, I think a team like Baltimore that has a unique offense tailored to a unicorn will be harder when that unicorn goes down. Most teams struggle when their starting QB goes down.

They will. They will also struggle when they lose their entire RB room 12 seconds before the season starts, their 2 All Pro CBs both IR'ed (& their backups for periods), their All Pro LT IR'ed, having their #1 draft pick get hurt in TC and miss the 1st 5 games, their starting FS IR'ed, etc.......Most teams struggle when their starting QB goes down.
In fairness, Joe was 65 in December of last year. I don't think he would've won if everyone was healthy either. They will. Baltimore had seventeen core-rotation regulars on IR in December. Joe Montana couldn't win with what Baltimore had to put on the field in Nov/Dec.
He’s no Tom Brady. In fairness, Joe was 65 in December of last year. I don't think he would've won if everyone was healthy either.
Now that Kyler has reset the QB market to a more sane level, let's get Lamar just a little more than Kyler and get this contract done please.
Lamar's mom has entered the thread...He may end up accepting less guaranteed than Watson, but there's really no reason he should. He's smart not to be using an agent because Watson's guy did all the work for him.
Nothing really changes with Murray's contract. I mean, it's another data point Jackson can use but he was always going above that anyway. The Watson contract is the pacesetter.Ruh roh.

I'm fascinated to see how this plays out. It's a really unique situation.Lamar Jackson sets Week One deadline for new contract
...on Saturday, Jackson — who is representing himself in the negotiations — said he has a hard deadline of Week One.
“Yeah, we’re coming up to it,” Jackson said in his press conference. “It’s coming up. The season’s coming up. We’re going to be good for the season.”
When asked if that meant his hard deadline is Week One, Jackson replied, “Yeah, for sure.”

As a follower of the team I just want Jackson signed and have no problems spending Bisciotti's money.
He is an odd guy, kinda like Ed Reed. He speaks his own language and I think the things he says may get misinterpreted by a lot of people - especially the media and a ton of Ravens fans.Lamar is a strange cat.I'm fascinated to see how this plays out. He makes statements that can be interpreted different ways.
I'm also curious to see how this turns out.
I'm going to go ahead and say it: Don't be surprised to see him throwing TD passes to OBJ this season.
Well, the Ravens did go 0-5 with Huntley, so I'd agree 100% that they aren't likely winning much with him. Which isn't even a knock on Huntley, who I agree is a decent backup, but it just goes to show what a unique and irreplaceable talent Jackson is.He is an odd guy, kinda like Ed Reed. He's got the Ravens by the gonads, as long as he doesn't get busted for something stupid (wait - that may not damage his case) or get seriously hurt. Both sides know it. I'd reckon 3/4 of Baltimore fans would riot if he's not signed to a new contract and 3/4 would go nuts if he got something like Watson did (the Venn Diagram on those two groups would be really interesting).
Baltimore can win a title with him. I'm convinced about that. I'm also pretty sure they can't win one with Huntley, who I like a lot and think is the perfect backup for what the Ravens are doing right now.
I thought he won one game (vs the Bears), but maybe Jackson started that one and Huntley finished. All of those games are running together in my memory now. Anyway, it doesn't matter because I agree with your overall point about Jackson.Well, the Ravens did go 0-5 with Huntley, so I'd agree 100% that they aren't likely winning much with him. ESPN's Jamison Hensley reports Ravens coaches see Lamar Jackson's 2021 ankle injury as "an aberration."
Jackson in an interview with ESPN pointed out that he injured his ankle not while fleeing the pocket, but while remaining in the pocket and looking for a receiver downfield. "I've been good [with] how I've been playing," Jackson said. "But when I tried to shed and stay in the pocket, I got hurt for the first time. So, yes, I think it speaks for itself.” He missed Baltimore's final four games before returning to the team 18 pounds heavier and ready to continue his run as the game's premiere dual-threat quarterback. Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman said he wasn't worried about the hits Jackson takes in or out of the pocket. He called Jackson "a magician when it comes to contorting his body to avoid hits." Fantasy managers shouldn't let Jackson's 2021 ankle issue prevent them from taking the Ravens QB as the fourth quarterback off the draft board. It's worth noting Jackson's effectiveness as a rusher has dipped over the past three years. In 2019, he averaged 7.05 yards per designed run; that dropped to 4.95 in 2021. Tyler Huntley remains a valuable bench stash in superflex formats in case Jackson misses time in 2022.

From Lamar’s perspective. With much of his production in his legs. I sort of get it.None of these qbs want to take the Tom Brady approach to money do they?
TBs 'approach' to money?None of these qbs want to take the Tom Brady approach to money do they?
All true but none of this would have happened if Brady didn't approach football the way he did, which was mostly cheating but occasionally cutting a team friendly deal too.TBs 'approach' to money?
TB isn't just Tom Brady, he's part of a power-couple where his super model wife was listed by Forbes as the top earner in her profession accumulating a net worth double that of TB.
TB makes three time as much as the next highest NFL player in marketing and licensing his likeness.
TB has 'shady' relations with charities where he contributes nothing but gets an annual honorarium from one of them of $500,000 before noting the millions he's made in real estate.
TBs NFL contract is a means to keeping his Q-factor high where his 'real' money is earned
You can’t fault a guy for wanting marketI'm not faulting Lamar nor Am I calling him greedy. NFL organizations are cutthroat money-whores. I see nothing wrong with a player getting his.
To the potato head's point tho, I think a quarterback would do better for himself by giving up some for his team to get more talent. His market is tied to winning like no other position in sports. His success even his statistics is tied very closely to his surrounding talent.
The difference in one's lifestyle between 50m/year and 30m/year is not really significant. But 20m/year in cap space is the difference between 2 good tackles and 2 bad ones.
I own Jackson in my keeper league. The rushing yards really kick it up a notch. That being said I always make sure I have a quality backup as I don`t expect Jackson to make it through the whole season without getting a somewhat serious injury. But you take what you can get while you can get it.
I picked up Huntley on the WW last year and got pretty much the same production as Jackson. I had to cut him due to to roster size but will grab him again as nobody will pick him up until Jackson gets hurt.
The 6 games he missed at the end of last year are the only 6 games he's missed due to injury in his entire college and pro career, and the injury he suffered was a borderline cheap shot and was him planting his feet and throwing, NOT running.I own Jackson in my keeper league. Three lost fumbles in 2021...THREE. One fumble lost fumble every 4 games. Pretty much the same rate as Mahomes, except Lamar has the ball in his hands running WAY more than Mahomes does.I own Jackson in my keeper league. The rushing yards really kick it up a notch. Yup. I'll never forget hoping Jackson would stay hurt so I could start Huntley. Owning Jackson last year was a complete nightmare. Was madenning to watch him over and over not being able to handle the blitz, fumble constantly, etc.
L. Jackson was an easy pass for me this year.

Unfair depiction of Mahomes who took less than what the market demanded. He 'could' have been the first $200 million QB but took less in order to win more championships.I hope Lamar takes less money, for his own sake. He deserves Mahomes money in my opinion, but why, who needs that much. Look at the Chiefs now, they couldn't afford Cheetah anymore...

Patrick Mahomes Reacts to No Longer Being Highest-Paid NFL QB
...“They’ll keep setting the bar even higher,” he said. “You always want to get paid and take care of your family, but I want a great team around me as well.”
This falls right in line with what Mahomes has said in the past. Although he does appreciate the respect Kansas City has given him with his 10-year deal, he’s not the type of person that will be banging the table to get a new contract so his name can be at the top of the list again among the highest-paid NFL quarterbacks.
For Mahomes, there’s only one thing he’s concerned about: winning more championships.

Patrick could have been the first 200 million QB but he put winning first and is STILL going to see half a BILLION.

KC lost Hill because they were paying Chris Jones, Frank Clark, Travis Kelce, extended Joe Thuney, and traded for OT Orlando Brown. When KC was making those deals, they did not know the FA WR market was going to blow-up or how successful they were going to be in rebuilding their offensive line with cheap draft picks or they 'may' have rethought the decision to pay out two of their top six contracts to offensive linemen instead of allowing Hill to seek a trade instead of extending him.
Can't blame Mahomes or the Chiefs for the decision they made at the time with the information they had when they made the decision.
Baltimore traded Orlando Brown to KC, and traded Marquise Brown saving a ton of money instead of surrounding Lamar with top talent. Don't blame Lamar if he wants to be paid because he was not pleased when the Ravens traded his best WR so why should he gift the Ravens cap space when they don't retain top players that would help Lamar?
Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is not happy about Marquise Brown trade
Marrying a supermodel who makes more than they do?None of these qbs want to take the Tom Brady approach to money do they?
