QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (3 Viewers)

I noted Shedeur played terrible then Compared Gabriel's play VS. the same opponent in the same game and NOTING the circumstances was my reply for direct comparison.
The circumstances impacted BOTH QBs but Dillion has not shown the ability to direct drives with the game on the line.
Dillion doesn't turn the ball over, he takes the safe easy throw shy of sticks rather than try to make a play, he's the safe choice for coaches who are conservative.
Shedeur has huge flaws in his game. He and I ADMITTED THAT HE PLAYED TERRIBLY. Long before the draft I went over the flaws of taking sacks, going backwards, a 'hitch' in his throw that was on display on the easy TD that he overthrew to Boyd because he mistimed the launch point on the run. I don't know how many flaws or pounds of flesh those who want to bury Shedeur want.
I won't even bother to note the things in his game that I like, I noted that with all of his flaws on display facing the same defense that Dillion Gabriel did, Shedeur drove the offense down the field with the game on the line.

Wait, what? If you’re going to give him praise for his 2/6 40 yard drive, you at least need to accept that Dillon led the team to a win against Miami.
I give him credit for facing the same defense on the same day with the same sub-par supporting cast and doing something Dillion hasn't.
Dillion LED THE TEAM TO A WIN AGAINST MIAMI?
The four turnovers by Miami, the three TDs from Judkins, 0 TDs from Gabriel.
Curious, if Shedeur LED a team to a victory under those circumstances would he get full credit?
If so, then yeah. Dillion Gabriel LED THE TEAM to that victory over the Miami Dolphins.
If not, then no. Has to be an even playing field.

Wait, so Gabriel gets zero credit for a win, but Sanders gets props for a failed drive? You seem to dug in pretty hard on defending a 5th round pick who looked anything but legendary in his first NFL action.

I can't believe people are arguing over two JAG rookie QB's on the Browns and who is better LOL

This is laughable to be honest, neither one of them are going to be anything but a backup, journeyman QB
if they are lucky

The Browns stink as a team and are a completely dysfunctional franchise that has put two rookie QB
who have zero chance at success in their starting QB position

The last thing you should be arguing about is who is the better JAG rookie QB

Wait, so Gabriel gets zero credit for a win,
Sure, he scored the DEFENSIVE TD. He ran 46 yards for the TD instead of Judkins. He drove the team down the field with the game on the line at the end of the game to win it.
Sanders gets props for a failed drive?
No, every rookie QB who hasn't played since August and gets thrown into a game shouldn't struggle. No NFL QB needs practice, or reps with teammates, or a game plan, or to develop timing, especially a rookie.
watch these last 8 plays with a chance to tie this game up.....For a QB to not have taken a meaningful snap since August...He gave the Browns a chance
Maybe I should give Dillion credit for what Shedeur did right? You seem BENT on giving him credit for things others did.

I seem BENT on giving Gabriel credit? Uh, no. I asked a question, albeit a rhetorical one, about what you were seemingly doing. Try again.

I watched the end of that cam e and came away thinking he looked surprisingly good.

Snap judgement.
Just about everything about it was historically bad; QBR, YPA, EPA, YPD, and completion percentage. I don't think anyone expected him to light the world up, and I don't think anyone's denying the Browns Broncos offense is a dumpster fire. It's just there are different levels to bad QB play, and his was about as low as I've seen in years. Zach Wilson at times I guess?
How about John Elway.
First game stats:
8 attempts
1 completion
12.5% completion
0 TDs
1 INT
Hall of Fame QB John Elway's first NFL game.
Snap judgement.
Everyone clamoring for Shedeur to get a chance will 100% write off any poor performance because of the bad situation when he eventually does get it. Here we are...
Peyton Manning 0 TDs 3 INTs, first game.
Troy Aikman 48% completion percentage, 0 TDs 2 INTs.
Yep, no one ever gets it. First game is the only thing that counts.
Nice patting yerself on the butt after one game.
It's not only what a player brings, but also the quality of lack thereof of the supporting cast, time to work with the offense and have a game plan built around strengths and less around weakness' as rookie learns tendencies of a terrible supporting cast as they learn his.
That isn't an excuse, it is how the NFL works.
First rounders will get more chances than a 5th rounder with an attitude that turned off teams at the draft.

Agreed 100%. Both guys will be out of the league in a few years.

Finally Sanders gets on the field in a regular season game. Hopefully after a few more appearances all but the most overtly biased sycophants will be able to see why Gabriel went 2 rounds earlier (but was still a 3rd round pick) and why Mr Legendary lasted until Rd 5, 2 rounds after Gabriel. Sanders simply does not have enough positive attributes to be a competent NFL QB.

Yesterday’s performance was not a fluke.
I agree that Sanders stinks and will probably not amount to much of anything, but weren’t you preaching a week ago about people being too harsh and criticizing JJM too prematurely?

That comes from watching all his CU games and seeing what his skill set consists of. I didn’t then and still don’t believe he has a sufficient toolbox to be a successful pro QB.

But your point is well taken.

#Raiders DE Maxx Crosby on facing Shedeur Sanders

“I watched a lot of him. I know his family really well, they’re great people. I always rooted for him. So it’s cool. I’m happy for him he’s getting his first start.”

Watch our latest podcast for more on what a Browns offense led by Shedeur actually looks like 👇🏼

The sky is plaid and neon green with purple polka dots. Are you going to believe me, or your lying eyes?!

Pay no attention to 4/16 for 47, 0TD:1INT 13.5 QBR. Those are just meaningless numbers! He looked good, dammit! Listen to the “expert.”
I wonder if they have a "hard hook" at -100 yards rushing and/or yards loss on sacks.
Grading on a curve. These guys plant their flag hard, and don’t want to eat crow later. Clout and cred is on the line.

Anyone with any sense or knowledge of the sport at all can see through it though. Why am I supposed to believe this guy should have been a first round pick again? He’s not a good nfl prospect.

If his last name was anything besides “Sanders” he wouldn’t have been drafted.

Browns fans you're up 24-3 against the Raiders in Shedeur's first start. I see the defense is feasting, but what's the honest grade on his individual performance? I'm just surprised to hear crickets in this thread.

Congrats to sanders for playing respectably.

The next few games should be interesting. You probably couldn’t script a better series of opponents to play your first few games.

SS di what he needed to do, he did not fvck the game up with mistakes

Browns did not win because of him though, Raiders are just a really bad team and gave the Browns the game
Looks like they have quit on the season to be honest

See what happens when SS plays against real teams in the coming weeks, not expecting much from him to be honest

In the first ten games of this season the longest pass play by the Cleveland Browns was 39 yards.
Shedeur Sanders in his first NFL start exceeded the longest play of the year THREE TIMES.
Every pass and rush attempt from Shedeur Sanders' first NFL Start | Week 12
Teams didn't respect Dillion Gabriel's deep game and stacked the box and bled the offense to death.
Joe Flacco was leading the league in turnovers and was losing games before the Browns traded him.
Each of those guys only managed one win with four losses...
With the same team that struggled to protect the passer and without a big play making WR, Shedeur won his first NFL start.
He's a rookie NFL QB with a terrible supporting cast, he'll make mistakes and look bad, but he won.
Shedeur won his first NFL start which is remarkable.
No rookie QB had won his first start with the Browns since Eric Zier.
You won't find Eric's name on the famous jersey because he came BEFOFE the expansion back in the 1990s.
Add, he won it on the road and the Browns hadn't won a road game since September 15th of last year.

Shedeur Sanders completed 11-of-20 passes for 209 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Browns’ 24-10, Week 12 win over the Raiders.

Making his first NFL start, all eyes were on Sanders versus a beatable Raiders defense. Sanders struggled to get much going early in the game but found his stride near the end of the first quarter. Rolling to his right, Sanders uncorked a dime to Isaiah Bond for a 52-yard score. It may have been the best throw by any Browns quarterback this year. Sanders’ very next pass, however, was a horrific interception. He didn’t see Raiders DE Charles Snowden slink back into zone coverage and tossed an easy pick. Sanders was taken off the field near the goal line in favor of a Quinshon Judkins Wildcat package. Judkins scored on that look twice. The backfield as a whole had Sanders’ back later in the game when Dylan Sampson turned a check-down into a 66-yard score to ice the game. Assuming Dillon Gabriel clears concussion protocol this week, Kevin Stefanski will have a decision to make between him and Sanders for the Browns’ Week 13 matchup with the 49ers.

Incredible observations Bracie, you nailed this one
Sanders looked a lot more calm today.

Russini reported this as a big tell that Sanders was a lot more prepared this week than just being thrown into the game with no reps since Aug

I would ask Sanders why he didn't think he needed to be prepared to enter the game at a moment's notice but I prefer to build on what we saw today

I think Sanders has a long way to go before being heralded as a starting QB in 2026, a lot could happen between now and then including a new HC, maybe another QB prospect if the new coach isn't as exctited about the Gabriel/Sanders combo long term

Great post Bracie, thank you
