Ran a 10k - Official Thread (15 Viewers)

My wife has to leave by 7:00, so I am going to have to join @Zasada at 5:00
I so admire the dedication of you guys who get up so early to get in your runs.  I was lucky for many years to, first, run at lunchtime at my university(ies), and over the past decade or more to get up at "only" 5:30 to get in a morning run before work.  And now I'm a lazy-### professor who can run after waking up whenever and reading the e-paper.   :tebow:    That said, I'm now competing against many old farts who are probably retired and can run as long and as often as they want.  I still intend to kick their ###es.

My wife's out the door around 6:15-6:30, so my estimated departure time is you're ####### delusional if you think I'm running at that hour.

Our kids have taken to strength training in the yard with dad, but running during the week is primarily limited to xc practice. My MIL can help a few hours per week, but that's about it (she has MS) and I often need to do non exercise things when she is on the clock.  Maybe it's a good thing I got ran over by that car cause I wouldn't have the time to run right now anyway.

OK, I’m entered and will be ready to roll.

Lakefront in Minnesota - you're going to have to narrow it down for proper stalking

We did the walking across the Mississippi schtick last summer at Itasca State Park - very nice up there.  Surprisingly, it also seemed to be less overrun with mosquitoes than northern Michigan and Wisconsin.

I think the length rather than depth of winter would be my biggest concern.  I know by February in PA I am mentally done with winter - can't imagine having 2 or 3 solid months to go at that point.
I remember living in PA and being depressed from Feb when football and hunting season ended until May when the sun occasionally came out.  Many days in the winter when I didn't go out for lunch at work, I never saw the sun.  Never been happier than the day I got the heck outta there.  I love winter activities, but 4:30 pm sunsets eat donkey knobs.  Glad Chef is mobile enough to try this.  I know it will be a blast for a few years at least.  Worse case if you are like him, you pick up and move somewhere else.

BTW - for those that don't know the story behind Chance For Hope, please read the "About" section on the information page.  It gives a brief overview, but the story of Chance and his courage, and the strength of @bigbottom (and family) during the final months/years has been something that has stuck with me since it was shared on this forum.  It is a great organization for a great cause, so please sign up if you can.

5k for me, 10k is too far.
I might run back my 5k route from our team challenge. Will be pushing to end of month to try to kick myself out of this funk.
I'll be doing end of month too since our marathon is 9/6.  Maybe we can shoot for last weekend in Sept on the 29th/30th and revive our teams?

Definitely prefer a 5K as well.

Of note, that would be good timing for me as I'd like to go get that 5K PR that I couldn't shoot for earlier due to my time off.

I'm planning on having an elective surgery mid October to get my tonsils out.  It's supposed to be absolutely God-awful to recover from as an adult so I'm going to end up missing some prime running weather as a result.  But, without any upcoming races anyway, it'll be as good a time as any.  So, getting this 5K done right before, I can relive a shiny 5K PR as I recover for a couple weeks.

Are you guys signing up for the 5K or 10K option?

Want to make an event of it?
I don't know what you're talking about with the whole "team" thing, but running a 5K sounds terrible.  Can I just donate to the cause?

Btw, looks like I can get discounts on Garmin products through work.  So if anyone is looking at upgrading their watch or whatever (or even getting one to begin with, :bye: @El Floppo), let me know if you want.  Looks like up to 30% discounts.

Yeah, you can do that.

The good runners here take the #1 option and run. The #2 option is to donate.
