RB Christian McCaffrey, SF (2 Viewers)

Shocked CMC has 0 rushing TDs in 4 games this year.

Huh. That's weird. I wonder if they've had many goal line opportunities. I get it, though, if this is the reasoning: If I'm Shanahan I am absolutely putting in BRob to take those hits. Why throw your crystal against the wall if you don't want it broken?

Any body in the NFL can bang from the one. Heck, have Juice do it. But your star RB who seems to be losing a bit of rushing efficiency and plays better in space? Save him for when it means something.

Doesn't scoring the TD mean something?

I understand the sentiment, but CMC's versatility down by the GL is also what keeps him in down there. He does have 2 receiving TD's.

Have to decide whether or not to pay a random future 1st for this guy, as it's sitting in my inbox, and I could really use a good player added to my team. I got a few future 1sts and feel like I can play with one of them.
Talk me off the ledge....

I worry CM is going to take a beating with all these injuries, and being the only part of the offensive engine that's running..it's bound to break.
They need to get other rbs bit more involved.

With his usage being as super high as it’s been, this stat strikes me as a screaming case for reverting to the mean and that an even bigger points bonanza is incoming.
Or.....he has a finite number of carries before he gets hurt and he's already used a bunch of them up.
Can say that about every player in the league. CMC is healthy now, and has been all season. I’m going to enjoy the ride until given reason otherwise.

Yep.

A lot of bitterness from the "he' going to get injured" crowd at this point.

CMC won't last the season. He'll be back on IR.
One week these haters will be right. But you have to keep at it. Wake up every Sunday and drill it in to us. Don’t count the weeks you’re wrong. When it happens, that’s when it counts. Don’t worry about the production along the way. Worry about maybe being right some day in the future.
Have you met drummer?
He has to carry an aging offense and scheme behind an offensive line that is anchored by washed Trent Williams. And with a defense without Nick Bosa. The 49er offense depends on him so much now without Purdy (who has regressed into Jimmy Garoppolo), Ricky Pearsall (who can't stay healthy), Jauan Jennings (whose is getting killed by Purdy's hospital balls), that every 49er fan who knows this team sees that Kyle Shanahan needs CMC to save his job. There is a reason why Jed York payed Saleh to come back to save the defense much like his uncle brought Mooch in to save the offense. CMC does not have the explosiveness anymore, and this is from a guy who has argued if youse freakin' bothered to haeve memory in the very thread that he should had been the MVP a few years ago.

CMC is like FBG. Old guys who refuse to know when it is over.

You would be wise to trade him for a king’s ransom. Niners team is designed for injuries look at who they have injured already through 4 games…
As I watch this game tonight asking myself who tf it is that they're trotting out as starters due to all the injuries....surely there has to be some kind of an organizational component here.

The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to agree to trade him before he joins the list.

What I truly don't understand is, guys are so emotionally attached to CMC they are ignoring all the warning flags that continue to mount.

At the very least, if I was a CMC owner (I have no bias against him, he was a FF game breaker nearly on the level to MY GUY, the great LaDainian Tomlinson.

At the very least I would consider my options and explore what I can get for CMC while you still can.

If you need a RB do it
Been mulling the same thing only it's not an offer, just one I'm thinking of making. Might just get slapped down for all I know but the CMC owner is currently tied for last place.

I don't have a heavy surplus of 1's but do have an extra first and second from trading Fannin. I went into the season mainly looking at what I call a competitive rebuild, which is to say I thought my team could be a playoff team but I was more focused on long term and part of that reason was my RB situation which was old, and not even good old like a CMC, Henry or Barkley. Monty and Conner were my clear cut top two RB's entering the year and I've of course since lost Conner and Benson.

RB draft class is not as strong as last year but looks good and using those picks to add some young RB talent was why I accepted the Fannin trade offer.

But, this league just does not have any super teams, a lot of parity in this league and I actually think if I landed CMC I'd be one of the favorites if he held up. He's be kind of transformative for my team.

My plan right now is to try and buy more time. While I'd appreciate his production now if I make a move for win now type player, which is usually not my style and few times I've tried it blew up in my face, I'd rather do it closer to the deadline to cut down on the injury risk. Maybe can't wait this long this time, might break next week, but trying to hold out as long as I can before making the offer to both see how my team is shaping up and cut down on CMC injury risk.

Think I will be sending out trade feelers next week or two Curious to see what I can get back for him

Anyone trade him or talk trade, what did you get or get offered?

The thing I'll say about the workload is that not all touches are created equal and it's not as if CMC hasn't had 900-1000 snap seasons before.

This is not a prediction one way or the other, just a nod to the fact that in terms of on field presence (which can include blocking/blitz pick-up/routes), he's been a unicorn in years past and does have seasons where he's not only been able to withstand it, but thrive and he's coming off a 2024 where he did not take a lot of punishment.

This guy's top speed yesterday (even with runways from catching passes in the open) was 16.77 MPH. Ben Solak reported that last year he didn't hit 17.5 MPH.

I would seriously worry. Teams are going to catch on. I noticed that he didn't bounce one run outside or even attempt to. People might nod and go "North-South!" but that's not really what you want your fantasy guys doing. Most points happen when teams run the ball outside because guys break them for long ones.

Kyren Williams has never been known as a speedster—in the least. He topped out at 18.5 or so MPH yesterday.

It's not looking pretty for this guy. If you've got him in redraft then you can go, "okay, CMC, just don't look so egregiously bad they know SF isn't running when you're out there," and you will probably be okay. I'm not into offering advice one way or another, but you should be aware of this if you roster him in dynasty.

"Solak wrote, “The four games in which McCaffrey played last season were concerning. NFL Next Gen Stats had his maximum speeds in those four games at 16.4, 16.7, 16.1 and 17.4 mph. For context, that 17.4 mph mark would have been his fifth worst in a game during the 2023 season, when he was the MVP of the 49ers’ Super Bowl-bound offense.” - espn.com, May 27, 2025

I'm trying to find the actual link, but since it's ESPN, I'm afraid it's lost. Nope, found it.

As a CMC owner this is some good information.

I always had the intention of trading CMC once his value was high. Now that the time is here, I don't even know what I would want back for the guy or what the fair value is.
No one is going to overpay for CMC since we all know he could break at any moment so I think we just ride it out for the season and hope he survives. Unless you want to get the side of the trade that receives a few good players and give up the great player which I imagine none of us strive for.

He's only averaging 20+ pts a week for FF. I think I am fine with that.

Heh. Sure. I don't know. I'm looking at Davante and he's been up over 19 MPH still. :)

I think this stuff is important. They're going to just key on him and spread everybody out in coverage or the linebackers and defensive backs will just key on him because he's not a threat to run anymore.

This guy's YPC for his five games has seen him average, from Weeks One through Five: 3.1 YPC (Seattle), 4.2 YPC (New Orleans), 3.1 YPC (Arizona), 2.9 YPC (Jacksonville), 2.6 YPC (Los Angeles Rams)

I mean, Seattle and Los Angeles have tough fronts. So does Jacksonville, and Arizona seems pretty good, too.

Guess it could be the competition, but it looks like he's getting by on route running and guile. I don't know. How long do you run this guy out there for thirty touches a game when he's averaging 2.7 or so a carry the last two games?

You know, I wouldn't know what to begin to tell you. I also wouldn't say you should necessarily sell because I don't know your situation or what, if I were in your shoes, I'd want back for him. It's really difficult and he's still scoring a ton, so. . .

They will run him out there until he breaks. He is still effective and a threat. For FF he is elite while healthy. That is not in debate.
