RB TreVeyon Henderson, NE (2 Viewers)

In case it helps, I picked Henderson at 1.03 in our rookie draft today.

Our order, so far:

1. Trains Warriors Ashton Jeanty, RB, Raiders
2. Step-Dads (from Buffalo Wild) Omarion Hampton, RB, Chargers
3. J Giles Band (from Burlington) TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Patriots
4. Dixie Normous Quinshon Judkins, RB, Browns
5. Buffalo Wild (from Step-Dads) Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Panthers
6. McLovin R.J. Harvey, RB, Broncos
7. Burlington Bruins (from J Giles) Travis Hunter, WR, Jaguars
8. Mountain Marauders Emeka Egbuka, WR, Buccaneers
Interesting...Judkins ahead of Tet, Hunter or even EE....
Yep... clearly the 'reach' of the draft thus far. Of course you might not have said that back in May. But had the news not broken this week that he wouldn't face charges, I was expecting Judkins to go late 1st / or more likely, early-to-mid 2nd round.

If this is IDP and Hunter is there after 1.01 I am taking him. Not that Henderson isn’t a great pick, but I gotta have that dual threat.
I passed on Hunter at 1.02 in IDP for Hampton

That’s fine. I just—l personally could not pass up that opportunity
I don’t know if he’ll get enough on defense.

Also IMO in IDP his max value is if you can start him at CB. I believe Sleeper has him designated with a dual position, but in MFL I think he’s a WR-only designation.

That’s great news because I’m in MFL and I don’t have him.

I’m of the mind that Hunter will abandon WR only if he sucks at it, and I think he will be excellent at it. I can even see a world where he surpasses BTJ by 2027 as the top WR on his team, similar to when Boldin had a historically great rookie season but was surpassed by Fitz two years later. It also requires having some faith in the QB to run the offense, and I haven’t given up on Lawrence in that regard (he was QB7 in fantasy in 2022 with Kirk and Zay Jones as his top WRs). Have to think BTJ and Hunter with Coen as the playcaller are all upgrades. If Hunter somehow stays splitting between WR and CB, then that outlook changes and he’s probably stuck in the 750-800 yard range, which is suboptimal for fantasy.

But bringing this back to Henderson since this is his thread, I love his long term outlook as well. He should lead the offense in touches. I am concerned about that statistic that the third down back in Josh McDaniels offenses have not been the same as the leader in carries for all but one season. It comes down to how much do you think Stevenson has left as a contributor, and I’m in the boat of those who isn’t ready to write him off, even if Henderson is more exciting. I also think Gibson still looks good and may siphon off touches from both guys over the course of the season. There’s room for all 3 RBs to contribute on a weekly basis.

I do really like Hunter and believe he and BTJ can become a nearly impossible to stop 1A/1B duo for as long as they play on the same team, but what BTJ did last season was something to behold and should not be discounted simply because of who Hunter is and his draft stock. BTJ proved his mettle and surpassed about anyone's developmental expectations in a matter of weeks. If Arizona or Chicago had do-overs, I'm pretty sure they take BTJ top 10 instead of MHJR or Oduze, and I love both of those guys still. It just seems like they needed development while BTJ was more polished than anyone had thought. He was as close to a prime Josh Gordon as I've seen. It should also be noted BTJ is only 1/2 a year older than Hunter, bigger and faster. He and Hunter have very complementary games, but they need a QB that can carry a passing game. Wayne/Harrison had Manning. Holt/Bruce had Warner. This might be TL's last year to prove he's the guy otherwise they better find someone soon.

It’s definitely a test of talent or situation. The way I have it for the four prospects in the same tier:

Talent/Ceiling
Hunter > Henderson > Hampton > Tet

Situation/Floor
Hampton > Tet > Henderson > Hunter

If my team was loaded at WR and I was contending I’d stick with consensus and go Hampton. However my team in thin at WR (BTJ and Jamo my top 2 WRs) and only have two viable RBs (Bijan and Walker). So I find myself not in contention mode and wanting to swing for the fences, hence looking at the higher ceiling/lower floor guys in Henderson and Hunter.

My Pats homerism has me thinking of taking Henderson because it might be more fun for rooting interests. But it’s a league where trades rarely happen and there’s only so many opportunities to find a foundational WR. But yeah it’s very low odds of happening for Hunter with BTJ being the real deal. Talent wise BTJ is on par with the Lamb/Nabers tier of WRs.

If I’m being honest with myself, I feel better about Henderson’s chances of being a fantasy factor this season than Hunter. I’m seeing Henderson flash every time he plays, and with Hunter I’m imagining it more than seeing it. Wish I could trade for an extra pick and get both guys but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards for me.

In our league, Hunter will not get defensive stats because MFL has him listed as WR-only. Unless that changes and they decide to add DB as well. Our league doesn't score defensive stats for offensive players.

Like I said, I’m thrilled b/c my IDP league is MFL and I’d have to face him

Oh man. I’m still debating Hunter or Henderson at 1.02 in non-IDP non-PPR (expecting Jeanty to go 1.01 of course). Big believer in both guys, leaning Hunter because stud WRs are near impossible to trade for in my league, have to draft them, I’ve had better luck finding RBs on waivers than WRs, and I’m not feeling great about next year’s draft class in general. Hard to shake this feeling that I’m going to make the wrong pick either way, lol
Personally, I would pick Hampton at 1.02... especially in non-PPR.

But you obviously know your league parameters better. Ours tends to value RB more highly. As the top 6 of our rookie draft suggests.

Had 1.03 and would of passed Hunter for Hendo if it weren't an high scoring IDP league. Even still, Henderson has looked so good i considered it! But ended up taking Hunter due to me thinking he's going to give this dual role thing a go for a few yrs and thats really going to rack up cheap tackles and PDs... if he ever gets an INT thats basically a TD!

4.02 - 12 team redraft
Watched him go at like 4.11/5.1, wasn't going to get him on the way back late in the 5th so I moved him up my board

You can see what it going to unfold there in New England and then check out that soft serve schedule they have, should be very competitive most weeks
Love the upside, he'll be drafted much higher in coming weeks, he can split time with RS thru Sept and some of Oct but eventually he is going to cement himself and he's a playmaker
Looks like I wasn't that far ahead of this

In a redraft league, would you be comfortable with him as your RB2?
Probably yes. Depends on my build. I wish he could be had a round later. I could see going RB-WR-WR- Hendo depending how the draft breaks and where I’m picking. From the 1.01 if he’s there at 4.12 he’s automatic.

That’s exactly how @FreeBaGeL built his team in FGB league 4. Great foundation for a team.
I've been targeting him at the 4/5 turn and he's gone. I bet he'll be a third rounder in redrafts this week. Not sure I can pay up.

Yep. I'd be surprised if he fell out of the 3rd round in a draft moving forward.

Took Henderson at 5.01 in a NFFC earlier in the week and felt early to me. Felt early because he was going in round 6/7 in the NFFC before that KR TD.

Still Stevenson and Gibson there so there are a lot of problems taking this cat early.

Reminder how many people were taking Gibbs in the same range in his rookie year and were calling him a bust thru the first half year of his rookie season.

I took him 3.10 of a big FFPC draft last week.

I did not know until last night that draft was live streamed by a group of fantasy "experts" who were also drafting in that league. I ran through the Youtube video quickly and the pick caused a little reaction and I could not tell if they were ridiculing it or not, these dudes kind of got their own little lingo( a lot of you would know them), but I think they were ridiculing it based on someone commenting something to the extent of "here we have someone picking NE's third down back in round 3".

Anyway his ADP is now just a little higher then where I picked him last week and I recall the last time I did a big draft like this and an "expert" ripped me in front of my face live in Vegas for spending a 4th round pick on Larry Johnson. I ended up facing that "expert" in the LCG and Larry Johnson ran all over his team and you bet your *** it was extra sweet. Sure look forward to trying to repeat history.

That doesn’t really make sense to rip that pick and anybody really acting that way deserves a calm comment or inquiry about the availability of any accountability measures in their own work. I know of at least one FBG writer who—surprise!—actually thinks informing his audience about how his hypotheses have done by keeping numerical track of successes and failures is good for disclosure and substantive improvements. Next time (if it bothers you) ask what sort of procedural safeguards or disclosures that they have to guard against personal bias or the dissonance caused by self-confirming tendencies all human beings have.

Or if you want to be blunt, ask where and what their receipts are .

You will not be disappointed in him...the kid has a chance to be special and those who think he is a Shane Vereen clone under BB or something like that are antiquated in their thinking.

I remember in May commenting on here how surprised I was at the amount of fantasy experts, especially some of the older/longer standing guys, who were MUCH lower than me on the RB class as a whole. I chalked it up to them taking a mini victory lap as the NFL draft did unfold where many of the hype guys I hoped would go late day 2 wound up slipping to day 3. But I think a majority of them for whatever reason have stayed low; or are just having a bit of take lock. Camp reports on these guys have been good, and many rookies (yes, even the day 3 guys) are having some windows and doors open up for them already. They will still have to perform, but especially at the RB position sometimes the hardest part is just getting a shot.

I was really hoping to grab him after the turn at 4.04 (as I've been liking the way my teams shake out grabbing Kittle in the third and coming back around for Henderson). But you and some of the others here have me thinking I may need to just pull the trigger on Henderson at 3.09 and just hope Kittle falls to me in 4 and have a backup plan if he doesn't. At this rate, I think I'd prefer him over Kittle for redraft and probably have an easier time patching together TE in the mid/late rounds than coming close to Henderson's production with patchwork mid/late RBs.

I got him 4.02 in an FBG home league, watched him go on the 4/5 turn in another so I knew I would never get him on the way back.
I know he will split time early in Sept and into October but I feel he has the talent to pass RS and by Week 6-7-8 it will be apparent he needs more touches if not sooner
I'll be shocked if does nothing this season. Vrabel wants to build a strong running game behind Maye, this is a big part of that plan

was really hoping to grab him after the turn at 4.04 (as I've been liking the way my teams shake out grabbing Kittle in the third and coming back around for Henderson).
Just some quick info.

The league I drafted Henderson at 3.10 is FFPC, TEP, and Kittle never lasts that long but I'd sure have drafted him if I could. I play almost exclusively in this scoring format and honestly struggle to grasp TE value in single PPR so not sure what I'd do in your shoes.

I got Henderson in the mid to late 5th of two previous drafts so it's hard to now pull the trigger almost 2 full rounds higher but I'm just approaching it as not worrying about what player X used to cost and just trying to draft what I think is the BPA or my guy. IMO the mid to late third round range into early 4th has been ransacked in the last month or so. Used to love this range, hate it now. A lot of players I liked in this range I've soured on, the one's I still like got pushed up because other people also soured on these players or some that went a little earlier. It's the most difficult range of drafts for me to decide who to pick and it's also why I I went from hoping to get late firsts to dreading it because the decison making process is so much easier and cleaner to me for the early third round options then the mid to late. Anway in cases like this I'm just inclined to go with my gut, current feel, etc, etc.

I took him 3.10 of a big FFPC draft last week.

I love both Henderson and Stevenson, but anyone who says that Henderson is strictly a third down back, doesn't know ball. Henderson's durability concerns are overstated IMO.

He suffered a foot injury in Ohio State's third game of the 2022 season against Toledo. He tried to play through it, putting up a 21-121-0 line against Wisconsin, then sat out the Rutgers game the next week. Played the next three games (19-118-1 @ Michigan State, 11-38-0 vs. Iowa, 16-78-2 @ Penn State), then sat out @ Northwestern and vs. Indiana. Played @ Maryland (11-19-0) and was shut down for the season to have surgery. Missed four regular season games and the playoff. Then in 2023 he was back to 100%, cleared in April after his December 2022 foot surgery. He got hit with an alleged cheap shot during the Notre Dame game in Week 4 and had to miss the next three weeks, but he came back to play the remaining six games and looked strong. Last season he played the full season splitting work with Quinshon Judkins and was the only season out of four where he didn't lead the team in rush attempts per game (14.1 in 2021, 13.4 in 2022, 15.6 in 2023, and 9 in 2024 with Judkins leading at 12.1).

In 2001 the Univ of Miami had Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee and Frank Gore all on the roster plus others like Najeh Davenport
Sometimes the talent is so good that everyone gets to play.

Trey Henderson looks like possible lightning in a bottle right now
I've never said that about RS and then you add in some fumbling issues and it seems clear that Henderson will see a good number of touches.

RS tops out usually around 200 carries and that leaves a lot of touches potentially for Trey
RS had a nice 2022 but the team is changing around him

RS was extended in '24, Vrabel was not part of that decision, he's due about $4M this year, he collected over $11M last season with his signing bonus
They won't just toss RS on the bench

I think Stevenson is too good to not be incorporated into the offense. It's just a matter of how long will it take to go from Henderson spelling Stevenson, to it being Stevenson spelling Henderson. I'm seeing a lack of standout options on offense for the Pats and think Henderson may get an even bigger workload than he got at Ohio State when all is said and done. Henderson looks to me like the rare case of a [potentially] elite NFL RB who wasn't an early declare. Look at the top fantasy RBs currently and almost all of them declared as juniors. Henderson is an interesting case since he could've declared last year and easily been the RB1 of the class, but chose to return even with Judkins coming on board. Everything about Henderson just screams outlier but one worth betting on.

I was really hoping to grab him after the turn at 4.04 (as I've been liking the way my teams shake out grabbing Kittle in the third and coming back around for Henderson). real chance now he doesn't make it to 3.09....

and thats the rub....if you have a later 3rd....you may not get him....so he almost becomes a 2nd rounder if you HAVE to have him...

Yeah, I just did a ROC draft where I passed on him at 4.03 for Hampton. News A report in the Athletic that Najee is predicted to not back until week 5 had me bump Hampton in my rankings a bit. Was fully planning on taking a WR there, too. Henderson made it all the way to 4.12 so maybe the hype train has slowed a bit.

Strange things happen when OTC. Lamb falling to 1.07, for example.
How is this not shaping up as the new Monty and Gibbs?
Maybe because they don’t have the ARSB, Jameson, & LaPorta to open the run game as well as DET does? Diggs is a nice receiver, but NEP doesn’t have the same amount of firepower, IMO. I just read that Maye is focusing on running less this year which isn’t exactly music to FF shareholders ears.

I guess in theory it could be, but I have Gibbs as a more talented player than Henderson, too. Maybe after this year I’ll anoint him, but I want to see it.

As a RS shareholder everywhere I sure hope he gives me Monty production 4 rounds later though.

News that Najee won’t be back until week 5
Has that been reported that as official or a guess?
It’s been reported by Dan Popper of the Athletic, thought it was couched with a “predicted to miss”

Sorry, updated my post. Don’t wanna spread disinformation, but Popper is somewhat reliable IIRC.

Thanks for clarifying it, a guess is totally different to me.

Sure, that’s totally fair. And thanks for pointing it out so I could correct it. I do like to be accurate around here.

I was already very low on Najee with the injury. And reading other chargers players comments on Hampton had me excited about him. So any inkling that Hampton might see even more work bumps him up in my rankings.

FWIW I had Hampton > Henderson anyway for the same reason @Dez described above. The presence of Gibson & RS might cap his usage.

I could be wildly wrong and will have egg on my face if Hendo outproduces Hampton. Wouldn’t be the 1st time.

Thanks and I guessed I'd also speculate he's out first few weeks. Maybe longer. It's a pretty unique injury and I feel like we are all in the dark on it. Najee for sure.
Based on the internet docs I’ve read, it’s especially bad because he can’t work out. Like, at all. To heal properly he can’t strain with any sort of physical exertion.

Not the same at all but similar recovery rules (since we don’t know Najee’s injury) but I had a lens replaced for a cataract recently. I was very surprised to see “don’t lift anything over 15 lbs for 3 weeks”. Also no running, jumping or any other exertion.

Apparently ocular injuries are especially touchy during the healing process.

To me this means Najee isn’t running, lifting, or doing any sort of strenuous activity. So even when he’s cleared I’m skeptical he walks right in and starts playing. He’s gotta get back in shape, and oh yeah - this is all a new offense for him.

Meanwhile Hampton has been the man all summer.

But this is the Henderson topic, so apologies for the sidetrack.

Back on topic, 4.12 (3RR draft) seems like Hendo is still very much in play for the 4th round for those looking to take him there.

To get it back to him I'd say if you can. I posted earlier today I took him at 3.10 last week in a FFPC draft when his ADP was a few picks into round 4 and today his ADP is up to 3.8/3.9.

It's not just because of how he's looked that is driving him up to me, though that's a part of it. It's that I'm getting so much lower on so many of the players I liked from that range of draft.

Yeah, that’s a solid point, and one I don’t see enough - it’s a good mile-high perspective.

I started my ROC draft Gibbs (1.03), Ladd (2.09 my first share, please clap) ~> MH2 3.09 ~>

If Hampton wasn’t there, Hendo was my plan, because I had a sizable tier of “other dudes I wasn’t that high on” and wanted to take big swings in a national contest.

Again, maybe my rankings are wrong having Hampton ~> Hendo, but my point is I was planning on WR or LaPorta there & zigged when the draft zagged.

Somehow LaPorta made it back to me in the late 5th which is even more amazing. Too bad Hendo didn’t., but I kinda knew he wouldn’t ;)

Actually I think it's wonderful we are talking about Hampton because his ADP and the current Trey Henderson jump in ADP puts them a lot closer in the draft vs a few weeks back before Henderson burst out in the preseason. Hampton has not really surged in ADP, he's usually there end of the 3rd or early 4th, maybe he moves a little bit higher into the Mid 3rd vs others like James Cook just as a comparison

I was gonna launch a thread with some Shark Pool love. Today for whatever reason has just been an explosion of posts on all the players, strategies, as FF GMs ready for the start of the season and you can feel the electricity in the Shark Pool today, I could anyways. Had that vibe we had going around here from the early 2000s

Again, maybe my rankings are wrong having Hampton ~> Hendo
You might be wrong but you won't be alone as it's still the consensus opinion.

Things change fast and constantly anyway.

The night before the NFL draft I was trying to hard to get into a FFPC draft for one last chance to try and get ahead of some rookie RB values. Whole plan was to load up on some proven WR's early and then grab a ton of rookie RB's. I remember it being a struggle to find a draft that would fill, they kept getting pushed back but finally got one to go off.

I took Hampton in mid round 3 and Henderson in mid round 4. My idea at the time was they one of them was likely going to Denver and the other one maybe a nice spot like Chicago or Washington. After the NFL draft when it looked like Hampton and Hendo were in time shares with Najee and Rhamondre I thought I blew that draft and took these dudes way to early. Now here we are.

Every year we get that darling player that just shoots up draft boards during the off-season. My memory is getting shakey, but I cant remember a guy climb up as much as Henderson has. Love it. I'm all in on this kid

Ameer Abdullah is the guy who stands out the most. He had that one preseason run and jumped like 5 rounds.

So your staring at Hampton or Hendo? You taking Hendo? How about Harvey? He's another guy moving soundly in the right direction. Maybe no wrong answer here TBH.
