RB Trey Sermon, IND (1 Viewer)

Thats how it comes off when a smile gets posted.  It doesn’t come off as if you don't cry you laugh.

Sorry if I read that wrong…just comes off callous.
my read is that you were trying too hard to be offended, agree with the others, bad take by you

Bull####

I have enough posts here that you know I have no reputation of cheering or celebrating injuries. Gimme a break

I laughed once when Tony Romo got hurt and got suspended for days while trying to explain it. Best not to laugh when there's an injury regardless of where it comes from. That said, I know Cowboysfan8 and would seriously doubt he meant anything by it. In fact, I almost posted a laugh emoji before I realized he was hurt. It could have happened to me.

Sucks that he got hurt. Shanny should have given him an opportunity way earlier. I think his style would have been more effective than Mitchell’s against what the Eagles were doing.

Unfortunately for us (Sermon proponents/apologists/what have you), the 49'ers notched a 1pm start, west-to-east (bigger NFL thing than fantasy thing), Conference game (from an outcome perspective, the other NFCW Teams will likely win their NFCE matchups, this was likely the most 'in-question' game of the 4, so that makes it an important victory) today, so he's likely going to think he made the right call here, whether he did, or didn't.

That was one painful looking run. Huge elbow to the head, then helmet to the head followed by landing on his head. His helmet earned some money on that one play.

I was watching redzone, didn’t even see the play.
Board cop gonna board cop , in hindsight I should have ignored him I guess

Feels droppable in redraft with short benches, but also with SF bringing in other guys, really need to hold and see Eli’s injury situation.

I can't argue with this. Although, RBs outside the top 10 studs has been awful so far. I could see holding onto Sermon even in redraft if you can just because a good free agent RB is so hard to snag.

You go for it. My gut says, without getting hurt, he would have taken the job this past Sunday.

He is one HEALTHY series away from being a league winner. I'll risk holding him.

I agree. Leagues vary of course, but in most competitive ones, anything resembling a RB with a shred of upside is picked off the wire. Until we get some clarity on how long he might be out I’m holding. At this point, I would consider Sermon in the same class as one of the higher end hand-cuffs. With the way SF RBs are dropping like flies, there is still the possibility he could be a difference maker down the line.

This. I think once he is healthy he will assert himself. Concussion was just fluke bad luck.

In redraft, when his current owner has forsaken all hope, I'll be there.

I need some explanation of why he is so much different than every other RB they try and start in San Fran...and some of you feel this is a league winning move to have him on your roster.

-There's a lot of names, I'm not going to list them all but between the injured and the practice squad and guys being signed, I can't keep track of all the names.

-You all focus on this guy because he was drafted higher than anyone else this season for the Niners at RB, one would think they knew what they were getting and invested in. Yet he had a mediocre camp and seemed like he was in the dog house, inactive and healthy Week 1 as a rookie 3rd Rd RB in the NFL is NOT GOOD! I don't care what the factors were and motivation, etc...

I want to cut this guy but I see what you all are saying and might hold back. At the same time it feels like NOBODY in SF is going to be able to keep the starting RB job all season. And then you have Wilson being talked up in the wings when he returns in a month or so, just seems like we stepped into a mess here.

I bought into a 2-Back system with Mostert leading the way and I figured like many there would be injuries and whatnot and felt like Sermon was perfect to come in and establish himself but that simply hasn't happened. I think he could be cut and remain on waivers for a few weeks the way things are heading at the moment. You all feel a lot different it seems.

Feedback welcome, wanted to engage all of you with one post.

Cheers

The guy is an unknown commodity as far as NFL performance is concerned. We know he was impressive in college, and the Niners invested a lot in him. The decision to leave him out week 1 was a very bad sign. The decision to not even give him a touch in week 2 until they had essentially no other option, was perhaps even more surprising and foreboding. The concussion obviously was icing on the cake ... All signs point down, down, down. However, I consider him a definite buy low in dynasty, and a hold in redraft, mostly due to the fact that he has not even had his chance. Let's say -- just making this up -- he plays the next 2 weeks in a committee role, has a combined 16 carries for 44 yards, and 1 reception for 5 yards on 4 targets. If someone wants to drop him in redraft then, I would 100% understand, but even then I wouldn't yet want to drop him in dynasty. But as for right now I would be holding on tight. No, nothing is looking up for him lately, but the guy has not even had his chance, and has plenty of potential. I'm sure he's worth a spot over whoever is at the bottom of almost any roster, other than in really shallow leagues.

for context, I play redraft and don't own him.

I think he's a rookie with one career carry and a concussion so I'd be pretty hesitant to write his eulogy right now. I'm not in the "potential league winner" camp and I think there's wisdom in avoiding that entire backfield but if you've gone and gotten yourself involved in it, he's the one I would be inclined to get involved with.

I believe in him because they traded up to grab him. I also believe he was inactive week 1 because he doesn't play special teams. Not many players can step in from a backup position and be a league winner. He can be. Therefore, he is worth holding in my eyes.

Any RB in this scheme can be a league winner.

(Short bench league - only one player per position)
This is exactly my take on the situation.  I cut the poor fellow last night and hoping I don't live to regret it.

I drafted him everywhere, redraft and dynasty, and he's just an easy hold in all formats in my book. Everybody's mileage may vary.

As much as I want Sermon to take this and run with it, I'm afraid there are way too many mouths to feed in SF RIGHT NOW and they haven't even gotten the ball to Kittle or Aiyuk yet. This running game is going to work, but it could end up being a 3-4 headed RBBC monster that won't net you a startable player. I think I'm talking myself into dropping him.....but maybe not yet as I don't see anyone on the FA wire that I love more than I love the idea of Sermon swooping in and taking over this backfield after his EPIC 3 time RING OF HIS DING play for a concussion on Sunday. Elbow---Helmet to helmet---then lands with all his weight on his head to finish it off. His helmet earned it's stripes.

Some are dropping him in redrafts? That's crazy, JMHO. I drafted him under an assumption he'd do little to nothing the first 4-6 weeks with a healthy Mostert.

This is me. Except I can’t cut him. Because I know if I do, he’ll rush for 150 and 2 TDs a game after one of my buddies picks him up.

Short benches (5 spots) but I still don’t see much out on the wire, so I’d rather let him rot on my bench than explode on someone elses.

When we start to get to bye week troubles he may be the easiest cut in the world and I can make a decision then.

I'm redraft only. Can't imagine dropping him in dynasty (don't y'all have big rosters there?)

Feels like the concussion might just end up stalling an inevitable "obvious drop" situation.

This is a good reminder that holding is probably harmless for another couple of weeks. If he's clogging up my bench and getting 5 carries when bye weeks roll around, I'll likely take my chances.

Sermon limited practice today while Mitchell remains sidelined. The fact that he practiced Wed indicates he’s recovering from a non serious concussion and has a chance to play. Mitchell’s shoulder injury worse than a stinger. Shoulder injuries are brutal for RBs. HOLD Sermon.

David Lombardi

@LombardiHimself

49ers RB update: Elijah Mitchell won’t practice (shoulder, “a little worse than a stinger," but Trey Sermon will be limited (concussion protocol). Shanahan says Mitchell “has a chance to go Sunday"

what about with a normal Mostert, aka unhealthy?
Of course that was a hope, but it wasn't an assumption when I drafted Sermon. I just don't understand someone drafting (probably reaching for) Sermon when Mostert was an obstacle, then dropping him 3 days after a concussion with still TBD timetable... 2.5 weeks into the season. Just seems like someone with that mindset (e.g. short bench) would not have him on their roster to begin with.

Agreed...but then...Mitchel wasn't in the picture until after Mostert went down.
