RB Trey Sermon, IND (2 Viewers)

There is always one. It was more of a generalization to define sentiment. Those rushing numbers also factor in qb runs, which skew the stats for a few teams. They had a rb qualify as a rb2 in 11 of 16 weeks last year. That was with all of the injuries, and less playing from ahead. I do appreciate your internet sleuthing. Thanks for the technical correction.

All of that aside, the reason people have been debating Sermon for 11 pages and spending all of their FAAB on Mitchell is because, collectively, everyone agrees this is one of the top rushing offenses in the league. No one is debating Ingram or David Johnson and the Texans ran 41 times last week.
Always one what?

I am not trying to offend you Your post reflects inaccurate magical thinking that is common in fantasy football. When you talk about a top three rushing offense, particularly when removing QBs from the equation, the expectation is at least one RB on that team will produce at better than RB2 quality. A RB2 on a Shanahan offense in SF has happened maybe twice: Mostert in 2019 and maybe Hyde in 2017 depending on your scoring system.

Saying that Shanny in SF has a consistent top three rushing offense may be a "...generalization to define sentiment."  But you should qualify that sentiment by mentioning that it is wildly inaccurate.

Again, I am not trying to call you out I am just trying to provide context to a generalized sentiment.

It's funny because all Sunday I was doing a lot of the rationalizations that were flying around about it being a mind game on Shanahan's part.  Then when he came out and gave his explanation for the benching it sounded like his genuine thoughts.  Now that I read the McDaniel quotes I am right back to thinking it's a mind game.  Uhhg.

Shanahan is truly evil.  What was the nickname we used to give his dad? Didn't he have some kind of villain nickname?

All McDaniel's quote means is he might have earned 3-5 carries.  He's not starting.

You think Sermon is only getting 3-5 carries?

I don't think it is realistic to expect much  more than that until we see him actually being utilized, but we will see soon.

I think those who are talking about starting him this weekend are going to be sorry.

Yeah we are all obviously just guessing here.  What I took from McDaniel's quote is that they saw something in practice this week that they didn't see last week.  And I don't think it's a stretch to think Shanahan benched him with that goal in mind.  Now they're saying he'll get his chance. He won't start,  but if he executes I don't think they'll put a pitch count on him.  So I think the number of touches will just depend on what he does with those.  Starting him is a big gamble, but it could potentially pay off nicely.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said RB Trey Sermon was a Week 1 inactive because he "wasn't one of the top three backs."

It suggests Sermon, who repped with the 49ers' starters this preseason, wasn't scratched for not playing special teams. With Raheem Mostert (knee, IR) out for the year, OC Mike McDaniels confirmed Sermon will be active after looking better in practice. The 49ers' backfield has always been week-to-week under Shanahan, but Elijah Mitchell looks to be ahead of Sermon and should lead the team in carries this week. Sermon backers are betting on his draft status and Shanahan's history of riding the hot-hand winning out.

Just for the heck of it, we should register some predictions for Sermon Sunday. I'm playing Sermon over Singletary if Zack Moss is active. I know this is optimistic, but here's how I project Sermon vs. Philly Sunday:

Four rushes, 35 yards with a short TD, 4 receptions for 45 yards.

I don't think 8 touches is unreasonable, and that O-line is sick.

I wouldn't start him unless I was desperate, but that line seems reasonable to me.

Although, 10 yards per touch is probably unreasonable. Well, with a short td too, that's like 13 yards per touch for the other 7.

12 for 60 and a TD

3 rec for another 30

I am struggling trying to make any reasonable projections for Sermon & Moss as I own both and I lost Jacobs for this week. Either or both could both end up with zero touches.

I have Sermon in the lineup because Shanahan is more likely to surprise everyone and give the guy no one expects touches. McDermott isn't taking the ball out of Allen's hands for any reason and that caps both Moss & Singletary.

But projecting any kind of stats for these two feels entirely futile.

Is it?

If he cuts back here there are 2 defenders to meet him in the lane.

Am also taking a 2nd look at Singletary over Sermon and TySon Williams. I think Sermon will prolly see at least double the carries, but less yds/carry.

Screw It, Here goes

You laughed…he took a head shot.  Sorry if I don’t find that funny.
For real??? Did I say anything about him getting hurt?
I wasn’t laughing at him getting hurt. This is fantasy football board, I drafted the guy, he was inactive, got a chance to touch the ball finally and fumbled. It’s kind of a if you don’t laugh you’ll cry thing.
Seriously, go back to the PSF where you do your best work
