RB Tyjae Spears, TEN (1 Viewer)

I still have Spears on my team, I've been trying to get the Pollard owner to give me a 2nd rounder for him, but he's not budging. Should I just let him go for a 3rd? or potential spears and my 3rd for his 2nd.

"RBs have a short shelf life"
Those are FF words to live by.
You could say he's going to be this special back someday but I'm of the opinion he's always going to be a special backup

Is this fully dynasty and not just a keeper league? I'd hold and would not trade for a third. Let's see what Spears can do as he comes back from injury. Also he's still young - is there a rush to trade him away?

You have held this long. If Pollard gets hurt he's worth a lot more.

This. And pollard has been playing through minor injuries, but he keeps ending up on the injury report most weeks

Which might not mean anything… but sometimes where there’s smoke there’s fire. At least for this year.

Yup, I'm holding for now.

Pollard is getting banged up. This, plus a schedule down the stretch that looks pretty sweet has me hanging on.

Starting week 13: @WASH, JAX, CINC, @Indy, @Jax.

That's pretty damn sweet. He may have value even if he's splitting with that schedule.

It is of some concern that he is still in the concussion protocol.

Respectfully, it never does any good to make further guesses on this

Spears was in on 13 snaps.
Pollard 36.
Pollard had a rough day and ...preseason talk...I'd have expected Spears to step up.

This is another "you're clearly second fiddle" sign

Unless they sign someone, Spears is expected to step in as one of the KRs.
Jahquan Jackson has tumbled five times and many have him getting cut or benched. He's also the leading pro bowl vote getter for returners. I think the latter will keep him around. He was supposed to be a gadgety guy in the offense but has barely been used.

Anywho Spears likely to return kicks with Chestnut

@Bri

Any update on Pollard? Picked up Spears and might need him this week as a flex.
Pollard has been on the injury report for what feels like 8 weeks but always seems to end up playing.
What he said.

Pollard is definitely a trooper.
At this point, aside from an inactive, idk how we'd even know. I think the last two weeks he hasn't practiced but yet played.
His toughness messes up FF planning.

I've read some guessed that Spears would play a lot as the season closed so they could find out more on him. What's to find out? What don't they know? I think this is a good common young player concept applied to Spears incorrectly. In that vein, I'd guess Chestnut not Spears.

I don't think it applies though. I think they're comfy at RB and have 30 other things to worry about. I think the RB spot will be "keep it simple stupid" and no change unless injury.

Was Rudolph on the field late in the game when Spears was going nuts?

Curious if Rudolph is more likely to dump it off vs. Levis.

Grabbed Spears (again) thinking maybe just maybe Pollard has finally hit the wall.

With Levis:
1Q - 2 rushes, 1TD
2Q - 2 rushes + 1 incomplete target

With Rudolph (entered midway through 3Q):
3Q - 1 target, 1 reception
4Q - 6 targets, 6 receptions, 1TD

Given game script, there was next to no rushing in 4th quarter.

Yes but Spears has been the "losing badly" or "have a lead" back late in many games

Pollard DNP today - but as stated, doesn't mean anything (yet).

We discussed all season long how 50/50 proposition went to Pollard the clear bell cow and...I think maybe some have a bit of desperation and wishful thinking with Spears now.
I get it. I'm probably right there with other players.
Just adding a summary for context

I was actually surprised they gave the ball back to him on his rushing touchdown. He got stuffed. They let him try again and he just sort of crowd surfed into the endzone like a midget at a concert.

Any word on Pollard and practice today?

See other TN players getting status updates on twitter but nothing on Pollard so far.

Didn’t practice today - listed as questionable.

At least it’s the early game on Sunday, so it will be easier to pivot to/from Pollard and Spears as needed.

Pollard played last week, but he at least put in a limited practice last Friday. I believe he did play earlier in the year after three consecutive DNPs.

There's a chance this time could be different if he re-aggravated his ankle injury and/or experienced something knew here.

He's got incentives, but I think based on what I've read the incentives would still be reachable even if he misses this week.

If he's out, I'd be tempted to plug Spears in instead of B. Hall.

I've been riding Pollard all year but have Spears on the bench now and this is the first week that I hope Pollard actually sits and rests up.

OK, it now looks like Pollard is unlikely to play, he also has the flu now and not traveling with the team. Spears with the backfield to himself vs the #31 defense against RB's. I think I'm going to play him over Conner considering his situation.

Probably flexing over Tyreek now with Tua doubtful.

Oof good luck y'all

I'd never start a back w 217 yards on the season, in a championship game. I see it. I understand. I understand other players putting you in this predicament. I just...oof that's a tough one

@Bri- as the Titan homer, what % of the snaps do you think Spears sees now? Spears is electric and involved in the pass game. Going against a weak Jag defense, I would think Spears has a combination of high floor with volume and a high ceiling with his big play ability. Maybe I'm a little too optimistic

A high percentage
We learned earlier this year that Callahan doesn't have the same confidence in Chestnut as Titans fans do

Spears is explosive. That's his move- this video game like burst.
Guys like that always have hammy issues and he's no different.

Earlier he hurt his hammy pretty bad and IIRC a concussion. When he returned he was not himself at all. I kept saying in game threads where's his burst? He looked so ordinary. He had a good interview about talking to a former Titan and (ya know it happens) having to eat better and stretch better and pay more attention to his body.

He's looked like himself the last few weeks. Cornered a few times, then pushed the turbo button and suddenly he darts ahead.

He's not very good between the tackles but this isn't the 2023 Titans. Callahan calls 1000 wide runs and screens so this matters soooo much less than one might expect.

Chestnut has been excellent every preseason. He's classic back like in needing so many carries to get rolling but if he does, he's sure to break one. He completely whiffed on a block that allowed a punt to be blocked. He went right into the doghouse. It's been unreasonable at this point. He goes in a smidge and rarely gets a carry but as he proved before the whiff, he's a very good blitz pickup guy. He's saved Levis and Rudolph numerous times and should be let out of the doghouse by now.

Another example- Journeyman Mike Brown has been surprisingly impressive at S. Diggs went down and look at this guy! He made a clean hit to break up a TD catch. NFL fined him. Coach was upset said he talked to him etc. Texans ran duplicate play next week and he was gunshy to hit the WR. Benched and I don't think he's played D since. He should be long out of the doghouse.

I don't know about Callahan and doghouses. It seems a bit much on a bad team but ok ya gotta do it but...the inexperienced coach has to let them out.

No doubt Chestnut is way better between the tackles but due to Henry and the doghouse, he's barely played in the regular season. He's even been the starter over Spears in preseason- both preseasons too. He's got 12 yards and 29 snaps on the year so...there is no reason to think he steals much of any from Spears. Here n there for a breather maybe.

ETA- there was a point that someone tweeted how Chig had more backfield snaps than Chestnut since the punt block.

I was stressing hard having to choose between Etienne (yes, I made the championship w/ Etienne on my roster) and Spears as my RB2, but now with Pollard out it's a no-brainer.

Agreed, it is a tough one. I have to start him. My fingers are tightly crossed

Who else are people playing Spears over - debating him in a huge spot and interested to see what others are thinking

So tempted to start Spears over Cook given that Cook shares the backfield, gets vultured by Allen, doesn’t catch many passes, and they could pull starters early - but don’t have the stones to do it.

Spears coming off two big games and now he gets... the Jags.
