RB Tyjae Spears, TEN (1 Viewer)

Man, really need them to put him on short-term IR so I can participate in the FA draft tomorrow night. Don’t they have til tomorrow afternoon to designate?

I think you're right..

He is explosive. That's his main trait. Like hammy's and us FF guys sitting here saying "yeah right" to estimates, unfortunately teams sometimes still say absurd timelines and how they'll have to test it out before making a determination. There could be a delay if this happens.

I want him on IR because I want the Titans to add a back. For three weeks they have priority and Pollard is old and...I'll be so annoyed if they miss out because they thought a guy in a boot on a scooter would play

Sources: Titans RB Tyjae Spears, who suffered a high ankle sprain earlier this month and was spotted in a walking boot this weekend, is being placed on injured reserve, meaning he will sidelined at least the first four games of the season.

Now I just need MFL to hurry up and change his designation and free me up a roster spot. Yahoo already has.

I’m aware. But my FA Draft is this evening, and as of now I won’t be able to participate. MFL is typically slower than other sites at updating player designations. As I pointed out above, he’s already IR eligible on Yahoo.

Ive helped some sites over the years.
90-53 PLUS injured reserve is a data entry nightmare for tiny staffs.
Manageable before and after but for one day it's brutal

Radio hosts went from Damien Martinez would be interesting to talking like he's on the team replacing Spears.
Idk this guy but strongest ww talk already of the day

Titans staff net with Chestnut to tell him to be prepared for a role in week one. He was scared he was getting cut due to the timing 🤣 Poor guy.

I guess that's confirmation he's the backup then, right?

I believe they have to wait until after 4 PM today and the 53 rosters are accounted for then they can place him on IR so he can return.
If I am not mistake teams can't place a guy on IR before the 53 cutdown and designate them for return.

Refresh your MFL. He’s on the IR & IR eligible in my league.

Yep, I guess the app was delayed earlier. It was showing on desktop, but not on there.

Any news here? I can't find much on him, one report I did see from some fly by night outfit said longer than Week 5?
He's been working on the side with trainers for a couple weeks but not at every practice. One here n there.

He's not allowed to practice until off IR. This means he was seen and they're probably at a testing point in his PT so they're pushing him a little bit.
There's a maddening recurrence likelihood and "made of glass" stature so I imagine this is both "how to do it" and teaching him "this is how it's done" as well.

Looking for dynasty opinions on Spears. Does he have a legit chance at becoming something more than he's shown, or is this it? I assume he's coming of IR soon and have to make a decision on him. His age is a consideration. In dynasty I'm thinking someone like DJ Giddens at 22 behind an aging workhorse might be a better bet than a 24 year old who has some flashes but can't seem to warrant more touches. Maybe DJ isn't the answer for the Colts, but I'm also not really sure if Tyjae even has the skills to be an NFL starter either.

I like Spears and own him in my dynasty league. He is only 24 and is under contract through 2026. Pollard has an out after this season in his contract. I think as a total talent he is better than Pollard, but I might be in the minority there. I certainly like him more than Giddens.

You have to make a "made of glass" decision here as we have on many players over the years.
Recently on the radio they discussed his games active total and games missed. I forget the numbers but it's reasonable context if you wanna hit PFR.

I wouldn't trade him right now. His value is probably a late second to early third rookie pick? I would gamble on him coming back and giving you a good game or two and then trading him or even in off season. Think of Zamir White last year after Jacobs left. In June or July of 2024 you could have gotten a nice pick or two from a contender for White if you didn't believe in him.

All good posts with different POV but at least what I read is a desire to see this guy succeed and the injuries have been frustrating.
Henry was still there his rookie year and Spears was active all 17 games, 50+ catches, almost 840 total yds and 3 TDs, Henry leaves for the Ravens and everyone assumes more on the way
Then Pollard comes to town and even with injuries to Spears and even though Pollard was coming in after a disappointing run in Dallas, he's given the starting job
The Titans can say they want to give Spears a larger load but even when he's available they are not committing to him so to this point he looks more like a CoP RB even if that's not actually true
Here is where I was going with all of this, look around at other rookies and how many of them right now look like they will hit what Spears did his rookie season with Derrick Henry still around?
He has 82 catches over 29 active games, some of them likely used more than others but he's going to touch the ball when he comes back, he just doesn't seem to get a lot of carries or ever get a rhythm going with repeated touches or carries.

Not sure how I would feel in dynasty but from a redraft POV, and with the Titans already 0-3, it's possible we see a much different split in the coming weeks when Spears returns
I don't think we will ever see him as a feature RB in Tennessee, not at this particular moment, things can change
Pollard isn't bulletproof, surprised he's been this durable since coming to the Titans
Buy low if he's on a roster in your redraft league, might be the time to pounce before he actually takes the field

Is he on track to be ready by Week 5? He can't play this weekend I thought due to being on injured reserve

I believe he comes off IR next week and they get a roster exemption (if they want) to sort of test him out and see.

I'd like to sneak him onto a roster for basically free while he's off the radar for most but with the current injury landscape (and byes) I don't think I can.

I have him on IR, but will likely shift Benson there. Holding both AZ back-ups and will likely drop Spears for Dowdle. That looks like an opportunity that might be immediate

Makes sense, why activate him until the last moment? Any amount of time they get to take to ensure he is healthy enough for a roster slot is valuable. FWIW I don't think he will play this week, and I am not incredibly interested in seeing him hit the field. I just don't see him dominating this backfield given his history and build- Pollard isn't a world-beater but he's been a very decent and well-rounded RB through his career, and they can't scheme him into space or into the passing game. You'd think we'd have seen the RB passing game package if that was something they wanted to make a priority with Tyjae.

Unfortunately the most likely scenario is that he takes some of the opportunities from Pollard and being unstartable, and the worst case is him getting injured yet again because he just can't seem to stay healthy. I don't see a route at this time to Tyjae being more than a flex play, if he can manage turning this into a 50/50, which is already a tough ask IMO.

I guess my dynasty share should be pleasantly surprised there's as much excitement as there is to get Spears off IR. Is there actually any reason to believe he'll establish a split this time? It sure hasn't panned out yet.

I currently have a 4% bid on him in a 14-team re-draft league and it doesn't feel like I should be going much beyond that unless we're saying Pollard is the reason the Titans offense sucks. I don't think that's the case, and I also don't think Spears is close enough to 100% to do something about it if it is.

He is presumed to be playing this week.
He also looks like he's been hitting the weights and in addition to the last couple days ...good vibes from the kid.

The questioner is Wyatt the team's reporter

It genuinely seems we're just waiting for the official word and every box is checked except one

That link doesn’t seem to work for me. Is it just me?

He asks Tyjae if he's looking forward to playing Sunday; yet technically they haven't said he's playing and he's still in the 21 day return window

Schefter tweeted that he has been activated.

There's that last step we were waiting for
So Pollard with full control of the backfield wasn’t a good start. Now they are splitting touches?
He's never really had an effect on Pollard.

Pollard has some speed n scat back to his game himself. He seems to just be fresher and average more when Spears is around

Pollard does seem to play better when he shares the load. I think that goes all the way back to his days in Dallas too.

Hope so. Pollard has been a dud so far. But that could be Tenn coaching slamming him into the middle of the line almost every play.

Callahan said he liked what he saw on his 17 snaps and his role will increase.

Cam said he would like the two and four minute offense to play more. Callahan said they would. (The word more undefined here) Tyjae is the back in that offense

What is this guy going to do? I stashed him on my I.R. and now I need to drop someone to activate him. If i keep him, I'll leave him on the bench for now. But Tenn has looked rough.
