Star Wars Universe (1 Viewer)

Obi-Wan isn't over.  And it is filling a gap.  Last Jedi took what seemed like a decent start for a new trilogy, and then just abandoned everything, rewrote characters, and then left nothing to use for the final chapter, forcing a Palpatine reappearance that made no sense and ruined the whole thing.
I agree 100%.  I am just saying appears to be 2 cases now that they dropped the ball.  I get obi wan isnt done but IMO we are 3 episodes in and I pretty much see what I am getting.   I see what this is.  Sure they could turn it around but I doubt it.

For the record I thought mando and parts of Fett were both really really good

I am a big Mando fan, but thought Book of Boba Fett was kind of bad and unnecessary.

I liked parts of it.  Introducing the new characters and of course mando showing up.    I am a star wars nerd and can see the good when I probably shouldnt.  But in obi's case the first 3 episodes have been just bad all the way around

Leia enters the secret tunnel, starts running to the evacuation point. Some time later, 3rd sister finds/enters the same tunnel to get to the evacuation point. Didn't seem like there were offshoots from that tunnel, though I assume there probably are as Indira Varma somehow gets to where Kenobi is once she entered the tunnel. Anyway, 3rd sister gets to the evacuation point before Leia does with enough time to kill the pilot.

Is there some sort of teleportation device? Does 3rd sister have some sort of teleportation capability? Otherwise how did she get ahead of Leia in the tunnel?

The performances from all the inquisitors are bad, not just 3rd sister. She gets more screen time than the others, so she's getting most of the focus. Seems like bad directing choices to me when you have a group performing poorly across the board - they're all too cartoony in their deliveries and the dialog they're given is bad.

I wondered the same thing, but assumed she determined the tunnel was to the spaceport, and she went there in a more direct fashion than the tunnel.  Plus, the force.

Possibly. I would say it seems like that because you've lost most of your sense of humor.

I didn't even watch the video.
Maybe, but you’ve said it to me a lot. I thought I was fairly critical about Ep 9 and Boba Fett. I did really like Mandalorian though.

The Mandalorian is a great show. Love it.

Bobba Fett was ok.....uneven but enjoyable because I simply love the universe itself.

I am really enjoying Obi Wan.....what can I say. I get the premise. Obi Wan has completely detached from the Force the last 10 years and is a broken man. He is convinced “The Way” of the Jedi is extinct. That they were failures. So this is exactly how it looks. Vadar is far more powerful and can crush him easily. But he wants to slowly torture him. We have 10 years of anger pent up in Anakin.  Obi Wan has been living under a rock basically. He really has no connection to anyone. Until now.

I think Rogue One and Solo were great movies....yeah I loved Solo. I thought it was a great time and the guy who played Han did a great job.

The new trilogy was derailed by TLJ badly. But The Rise Of Skywalker did enough to recover the good feelings I had after TFA.

I think Disney has done a good job with the IP. I am very curious to what the new big screen iteration of the Star Wars universe will look like. I am actually hoping and praying we go back to the Old Republic....and see that all unfold.

People here pretending that somehow George Lucas had any sort of continuity in the original series...

I'm enjoying Obi Wan - To be fair the bar for me is set fairly low.  The Mandalorian is likely the best we've seen in a while (Live action, the Cartoons seem to be more "better") but even that has it's issues (Having a lead actor who cannot take off his helmet, now he's traveling through space in a cockpit instead of a camper van, the force issues with Grogu vs. what we saw in the "JJ Abrams" trilogy etc).

Back to the main point: Evidently Obi wan cut himself off from the force and of giving a whit about what happens outside of Luke.  To give us a series (other than Obi wan, the meat butcher) we need a "reason" and that reason is Leia and the Inquisitors. So we throw Obi off Tatooine and have him dust off his rusty Jedi skills (likely to get us to the "rebels" Obi who takes on Maul).  Forget that finding someone in a building is hard enough, or a city, or a continent, but on a random PLANET? Ok then.  Suspension of Disbelief is canon in the star wars universe. How well we suspend depends on the writers and the directors and when dealing with "guys we know" (vs a new character like Mando) we want them to be who they were and don't want to have them change in any way. Boba being anything other than a smart killer for hire doesn't track.  Obi wan not being the all wise Jedi Master doesn't either.  The Empire having people of color in their ranks (or aliens of any sort quite frankly) seems to stray from the original story we grew up with, so it is all a retcon.  Thankfully, the guys doing the retcon know all the nooks and crannies of the SW universe.

Filoni, Faverau, and their group of directors have a vision that runs all over the timeline that in many ways is constrained by what Abrams did.

In the end, any show in this universe really needs to do one thing: Mirror the experience we had as kids playing with the figures.  Sure, let's throw Obi wan on a mission (and have him still wear Jedi Brown) vs some guy with a fidget spinner lightsaber who works for Vader and has an underling who wants more power.  Their acting is better than the voices I had in my head on a similar mission when I was 9 years old or whatever...

One thing that bothers me sometimes and has been inconsistent (but more consistent in the original trilogy) is how fast everyone travels from planet to planet.  I know this isn't Star Trek, The Expanse, or Ad Astra, but in these shows, the new trilogy, and to an extent the prequels, people jump in ships and are across the galaxy in an instant.  The original films had some downtime, where the characters had to talk to each other before coming out of hyperspace.  Seems like we miss some of that development now.

Basically once we got to the prequels there was no "being in hyperspace"  You just went from point A to point B. Even then, other than the plot point of Obi Wan teaching luke about the force what other time was there a "slow jaunt through space"?

Phantom Menace and AOTC both had it.

Good stuff, enjoying savage Vader.  Would have liked to see Obi-Wan tried to talk to him a bit, but that is minor.

My only complaint would be with the lightsaber battle itself.  I'm spoiled by the fanmade battle on youtube @Andrew74 mentioned.  For all the screwups of the recent sequels the one thing I felt they really nailed was the lightsaber battles, giving back the "heft" of the sabers that they had in the originals prior to the prequels turning them into 2oz fencing sticks.  I'd have liked to see that battle with more heft and power to the strikes.  But all in all, very fun so far and they've really sped up to the good stuff.  They probably could have strung us along with Obi-Wan sidequests for 2 seasons before finally giving us the Vader showdown and we'd all have kept watching, so pretty fun to just jump right into it.

That's kind of my issue -- Vader arriving too fast.  But this may be the Vader show as much as it is Obi-Wan.

Just going to sit back and watch reactions to the ol' trenchcoat ruse roll in.

I wonder if the odd running issues that we've seen in Book of Boba Fett and Obi Wan are the result of using the LED screens for filming.  Like they don't have enough room on the set to get up to a good speed or something.  They all look like they are running from one side of my office to the other.  Just looks not natural to me.

Really fun 30 minutes right there.

Old School Star Wars all over it.

I guess we're waiting for weak hobo Obi-Wan to tear off the mask and reveal strong ###-kicking Jedi Obi-Wan in these last two episodes? That seems unlikely. I'm just not digging it at all. The story, the side characters and the acting is just not strong enough for me to sit through another 30 minutes of a weak, brooding, confused Obi-Wan who struggles to defeat a group of stormtroopers. I don't need Masterpiece Theater - its Star Wars so just give me my heroes against villains, some action and big fights and I'm fine. The writing in this one, like several others from D+ this past year, just seems really weak and lazy.

Idk I think they're doing a pretty good job showing him broken and given up, massive wtf anakin alive, time to realize I'm not the Jedi Master I was, oh #### better get back to it...couple challenges, strength returning...feels like a reasonable arc to me and I'm very excited for final 2 episodes.

I'm also very biased. My cousin, who is like my sister, was a writer on the show.

Stanger Things can make a whole season of spectacular content with 1 hour+ run time for every episode.  Why are these episodes so short?

I am 3 episodes into Star Wars Visions. I am totally impressed with the creativity of these anime vignettes (especially the first one).

Yea I will say I wish these were substantially longer. Unless they’re planning a second season (don’t believe they are) that doesn’t really make any sense.

The whole thing is underwhelming.  Vader is awesome, but everything else is so vanilla.  The story, like Fett, is junk.  I’d say it’s been disappointing on almost every level given the hype.

The writing simply sucks.  The pacing is great, and it's fine if you "only" want to make a 4 hour theater production quality Obi Wan show.  But for goodness sakes, if you have 4 hours don't waste any time.  Get some writers who understand the universe.  Why weren't F&F writing this story?

Also, I really need to start beating this horse more:  what genius behind the scenes continues to insist on AVOIDING John Williams musical themes?  It's like they are tossing away one leg of the stool that made Star Wars so fantastic.  You don't need him to produce new music to use his themes and craft derivative music.  There's got to be a financial reason, I figure.  Disney could be doing so much better with this franchise.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think the actresses portraying Reva and young Leia have been great. There have been tons of SW characters more poorly acted than these two.

This series is such a breath of fresh air after the dreck of The Book of Boba Fett. Episode 3 was outstanding with brutal Vader. Episode 4 was disappointing however. Have a feeling that Episodes 5 and 6 will match the intensity of Episode 3.

Mostly agree, but I liked this last one. I'm a complete sucker for basically anything that remotely resembles a heist.

LOL, Disney's running out of loose change?
I wouldn’t think so, but there’s been industry talk about cuts to streaming content budgets, and Disney’s said they couldn’t afford these shows without that fancy digital soundstage they film these in. Maybe McGregor wouldn’t sign off on a longer project?  I agree with Capella that it seems weird the episodes feel rushed at times, whatever the reason.

This story makes 1,000x more sense than Fett. Kidnapping an old friend’s daughter to try and lure Kenobi out is a long shot but makes more sense than Fett becoming some mafia boss overnight.

willams did do some of this music. And the score for Mando is really good.

Agreed that Obi is a bit short, which is fairly normal for Disney+ shows, Stranger Things is not an example of spectacular content for the length of the show. There are significant chunks of backstory that have been completely unnecessary to the story IMO.

Agree to disagree on this point.

Been waiting 30 years for new Obi Wan content.  Give me more than 30 mintues please.

Also, I don't have a problem with Obi Wan's arc, but when he finally gets back in synch with the force I hope he dispatches Reva as swiftly as one would expect a battle-hardened Jedi General to be able to when going up against a post-Jedi force wielding enforcer who makes a living intimidating normals and substandard Jedi leavings.

I sooooo wanted Vader’s entrance music. :sadbanana:

Just reading these comments I'm already certain I'll be feeling like an ignorant tourist watching this show, not having seen any of the animated series.  My son told me this morning you have to have seen Rebels because of the Inquisitors. I told him he's a nerd.
I never saw Rebels (or any other Star Wars series besides the Mandalorean and it seems pretty straight forward to me. It's been awesome so far and I've been so down on Star Wars, I never even watched Episode 9 of the movies.

It is marginally better than Fett (which was terrible), but still vanilla.

I will still watch every second of everything they put out though.

One thing I will say is that they gave a ton of hype to Hayden Christenson returning to play Vader, but does it really matter?  He's masked, and still voiced by JEJ.  They could've gotten Danny Devito in platform shoes to play him and it wouldn't have mattered.  I was hoping for more maskless Vader.

I assume we are getting that in the last two eps.  If not?  totally agree with you.
