Star Wars Universe (1 Viewer)

the writing on this show is back to kenobi/boba sophomoric.

andor really looks to be a one off.
It’s literally live action Rebels and Clone Wars. Not sure what people were expecting here.
Yeah I have no problem with the writing at all (even smiled at "...how am I supposed to fight?"). My problem is that Clone Wars and Rebels had like 800 episodes per season. Mission of the week format is fine for that. I mean, this wasn't even mission of the week, and it took up 12.5% of the entire season's worth of episodes.

Oh I totally agree there. They are wasting time imo.

I didn't mind the spacewalk stunt, but the rest was just ok. They could have done a better space battle imo - I found myself wondering if I was watching Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica at times. The rest was fairly average. Nothing really moved along plot-wise, which seems like a miss considering the limited episode count.
Yea and the next episode is going to be 30 minutes of the bad guys snuffing them out of the field before Ahsoka escapes and moves on. Just let’s get to the Ezra/Thrawn stuff.

I’m sure that will be the S1 cliff hanger and we’ll have to wait for S2 to actually see them do anything
I really really hope not. That would be awful and unfair for Rebels watchers who waited 5 years for a conclusion to that plotline. Filoni is better than that.

He is, but Disney needs to make their money. He may not have a choice.

I’m fine with it even though I guess I don’t have a feel for how old Sabine is supposed to be or act.

But, did turbolasers always explode like flak bursts??

I enjoyed episode 3 quite a bit. Thought the space battle was great. The laser blasts flying by the cockpit were really well done. The Ashoka flipping in space was obviously gringe. The actress playing Shin has the right amount of "dead inside" and anger in her eyes to play a great dark side force wielder. Introduced the purrgils and advanced the plot. We now know exactly what Morgan Elsbeth is planning (even though most rebels watchers already knew where this was going). Would have been nice to see more Baylan obviously but don't want to overuse him.

I just want some decent stories. Is that too much to ask? So many books and stuff they can steal.from and they pump us this trash
Plenty of good stories so far. The whole Rogue stories. Final season of clone wars. Rebels. I liked ep 7 and 8 even if 8 was controversial. Mandalorian has been great for a lot of the series. Lots of good stuff we wouldn’t have had if Disney didn’t buy it.

Didn’t like Boba Fett series at all. That was the one big miss for me.

We shouldn't have to hold new series to a higher standard than the originals
Seriously?

If only on technical aspects (e.g., special effects, higher resolution) I'd disagree with you. But I believe in constant improvement across all aspects. Acting, story telling, etc.

ETA: Add in the fact that one of the largest entertainment conglomerates in the world is now in charge, having an unmatched capability to finance projects and attract top end talent, the disconnect between expectations and what Disney has actually delivered is massive.

My kids have loved all the series, including Boba Fett and Obiwan (Obiwan actually held up a lot better for me when you can binge it and don’t get hung up on a couple crappy episodes in the middle of the season). Watching with them has helped remind me that aren’t solely making these shows for the 40+ crowd.

My wife hasn’t watched a second of the cartoons but doesn’t feel lost at all. The first episode is fine. My problem is more that this version of Ahsoka has the personality of a cardboard box. She doesn’t seem to be a compelling lead when she’s not doing super cool Jedi stuff.
I agree here about Ashoka. Dawson just seems off with the portrayal. Maybe I don’t remember older Ashoka from Rebels as much as TCW Ashoka, but cardboard box seems apt for this version. Same for Sabine.

Yes, seriously. These shows aren't made for 40+ year old dudes who want top notch storytelling and acting. These shows have to appeal to 8 - 60 year olds or whatever. Of course the technical aspects have improved, I hope you agree with that, but this entire world is made up of goofy characters - always has been, except for a few shows/episodes

All I ever wanted as a youth was more Star Wars. I've got that now (and I've got a son the perfect age to enjoy it all); I am not complaining about any of it. Nerds.
I'm two episodes into Ashoka and I'm enjoying it. Some great action scenes!

So as for Ahsoka's demeanor.......she is older and more serious now......and she's a badass! Luke Skywalker was the same way as he aged.

I didn't watch any either and am following fine. I know I am missing some backstory to all the characters and their relationships but overall it isn't detrimental.

My Mom actually called to ask me questions after chapter 3 to make sure she was following. It made me laugh since all I could tell her was the stuff I have read here and on social media about the characters. She seems to be in the same spot I am, just without the social media info...

The OT had a whole universe of backstory which it didn't tell. LOTR is the same way. The best stories do, maybe.

Her being emotionless fits the progression of the character, I agree, it's just not ideal for the lead character of a TV show. The end of episode 4 was refreshing as it was the first time she's shown a flicker of her old personality.

Along with being on D+, it looks like Episode 5 is being screened in a limited number of theaters next week (all big cities, tickets are long gone but the theaters have wait lists).

Ashoka Ep 5

I'm thinking this is going to be a pretty big episode then? Looking forward to it.

Gotta say, not feeling it as much as I thought I would. I think Filoni and Co. have a dialogue problem. Pretty much everything that these characters are saying is more wooden than a cigar store Indian. We didn't need Ashoka to basically tell us (in an emotionless, leading tone) that Sabine was going to do what she did by questioning Sabine about being able to trust her to NOT do what she did. The dialogue between Ashoka/Sabine has no real love or endearment...or even anger. I thought this was a bit of the case with The Mandalorian.....but that's forgivable due to the nature of the character. Ashoka and Sabine should be much less dull then they are being made out to be. These Filoni's are reminding me of post Next Generation Star Trek shows; there's a deliberate, calculated way that dialogue is suppose to be spoken and characters are supposed act....and after stuff like Andor (and for Star Trek, Picard) it just doesn't work.

I have no idea what message Anakin was trying to get across but it looked very cool.

I think it was simply to make a choice whether to live or die. But I'm terrible at interpreting this stuff.
I thought it was Live or Die, but not in the context if Ashoka should live or die - but more would she let her opponent live or die. She has been very aggresive in battles lately, similar to Anakin near the end of the prequels. Look at her clone wars flashback that Anakin didn't know about. She was slicing foes up left and right with no remorse. So was she going to let Anakin live (good side) or die (dark side). She's been teetering the edge of going down the same dark path as Anakin. This seemed to be a place where she needed to decide who she was going to be, and in the end chose to let Anakin live thus repelling the dark side. At least thats how I took it.

That goes along with what Baylon said to Ahsoka -- she is of death and destruction like her master.

And I didn't really get that comment. Seems like they are creating somewhat of a different narrative for Ahsoka and her history. Though there is certainly a gap between the final episode of Clone Wars and Tales of the Jedi/Rebels.

Yeah, if the idea was that she was flirting with the dark side previously, that was also too subtle for me to pick up on.

I never got that she was flirting with the dark side, but in my mind she’s always been more of a warrior than a Jedi if that makes sense.

I like this explanation better.
