Star Wars Universe (2 Viewers)

I’ve seen all the live action stuff but none of the animated. Do I need to watch some of them before Ahsoka?
Well, since that's where Ahsoka's story starts, I'd highly recommend watching them. Personally, I'd watch them all but it's a lot. From a reddit thread.
If you never watched anything from the Clone wars the show is mostly organized in story arcs of 3-4 episodes on average. I assume you just want to watch some episodes with her before she appears in the Mandalorian so I will just put all arcs where she plays a major role

- Season 1 Episode 2 - part of the Malevolence Arc (includes some of her backstory)

- Season 2 Episode 1-3 Cad Bane/Holocron Arc (if no time only watch episode 1 or skip entirely)

- Season 2 Episode 5-8 - Geonosis Arc (she is not in episode 7)

- Season 2 Episode 11 - Lightsaber Lost (skip if no time)

- Season 3 Episode 10 - Heroes on both sides (skip if no time)

- Season 3 Episode 15-17 - Mortis Arc (has a connection to Rebels in case you watched that)

- Season 3 Episode 21-22 - Padawan lost

- Season 4 Episode 14 - A friend in need (skip if not time but it also has Bo Katan in it)

- Season 5 Episode 2-5 - Onderon Arc (she is there the entire time but its not focused on her)

- Season 5 Episode 17-20 - Temple bombing Arc (must watch!)

- Season 7 Episode 5-8 - Ahsoka Arc (most people dont like it but its literally Ahsoka only)

- Season 7 Episode 8-12 - Siege of Mandalore/ Order 66 Arc (must watch!)

Another person put together this Google Doc about what to watch. I would also highly recommend watching all of Rebels, most of the characters in the live-action show come from Rebels.

The first episode of Visions season 2 was really cool looking. 15 minutes long, worth checking out. All episodes are standalone, so you don't need to watch anything before it.

IMDB scores: Rogue One 7.8, Solo 6.9
Rotten Tomatoes: Rogue One 84/87, Solo 69/63

On aggregate, people like Rogue One considerably more than Solo.

was there a debate?

Rogue One kicked ***.
I din't think there was any debate, but @JAA disagrees, so there is at least one

I'll jump on board here with @JAA.

I thought Rogue One was decent enough but a bit overrated and didn't really stick to the tone the trailers had set.

Likewise I thought Solo was underrated and I'm not sure why it got crapped on so much.

I think there are a few folks who might get a tiny bit too immersed in this world and when their iconic boyhood heroes aren’t portrayed exactly how they want them to be they get a little salty.

Just finished Rebels. Not usually an animation fan but really enjoyed it.
Gotta admit. Sometimes I wonder why storm troopers have weapons at all.

If you’re not a video gamer you should log onto YouTube and watch the ‘movie’ style presentations of Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor. Both about 3 hours long, people take all the clips from the games and organize it together.

Jedi Survivor in particular is one of the best Star Wars stories I’ve seen.

New trailer for Ahsoka was released today. As a fan of the Clone Wars and Rebels TV show this looks like a must watch for me

We followed this list to prepare ourselves for the series, we're at the season 4 final (and have already watched the Mandalorian / Boba Fett episodes).

My kids have probably watched clone wars and rebels 5 times, but I only caught a handful of Clone Wares and Rebels episodes while they were watching.

Thoughts so far on the lead-up episodes? I think it's a great story, I'm looking forward to this more than any Star Wars item since Phantom Menace.

I think that they definitely help to understand the characters and their motives, I highly recommend anyone who hasn't watched either show to get some context.. However, I found it especially difficult skipping Rebels episodes. With adding Hera and Sabine, they are much more closely connected to the overall story that missing parts of the story was more glaring. So I would recommend watching more of Rebels if you have time. I wish we did.

We watched the latest trailer after finishing and my oldest already has the countdown to # of days, so we are all obviously excited. My wife commented that it would be great to watch on the new home theater (which may not be ready in time).

I will say I'm not totally excited about the casting for Hera, Sabine or Thrawn, but I realize translating from cartoon to live action is difficult and I'm sure I'll be over it by the first episode.

So yes, I agree that both Clone Wars and especially Rebels are great stories and they are also great lead ins to where Ahsoka seems to be going.

Watch more, not less, if you can!

I enjoyed the first two Ashoka episodes but if you never watched rebels I do not understand why you would care about these people at all. It basically drops you in 15 years or whatever after the last episode.

What's the deal it dropping at 9 pm?

We sat down to watch at 8 and had to miss it last night because the kids had an early morning.

Ahsoka pre-dates Rebels, but to the bigger point, why did we care about Mandalorian? No one had any connection to him prior to the first episode.

Episodes 1 and 2 were fantastic.

Sure but you’re being dropped in mid-way thorough a show with 80 or so previous episodes and backstories. I just think it would lack something if you haven’t followed their story before but hopefully it doesn’t. I enjoyed the first two a lot and expect I’ll love the series. Rebels is a favorite of mine.

I think it tells enough of it's own story that the Rebel/Clone wars content isn't critical. The stuff that 'happened' between Rebels and Ahsoka was more confusing for all of us (my kids having watched everything and my wife and I only watching the 20 or whatever critical episodes),

mainly Ahsoka training Sabine in the Force. Does she even have any force powers?

My wife hasn’t watched a second of the cartoons but doesn’t feel lost at all. The first episode is fine. My problem is more that this version of Ahsoka has the personality of a cardboard box. She doesn’t seem to be a compelling lead when she’s not doing super cool Jedi stuff.

As to your spoiler, no, that was a new development. Never discussed before afaik.

Has anyone in the history of the Star Wars franchise ever survived a lightsaber through the chest? I found that character extremely annoying so it gave me some hope when she got run through - then she's fully recovered the very next scene? I had high hopes for this one but had to shut it down about 15 minutes into episode 2 and not sure I'll get back to it.

Related note - I read an obit of a guy today who's granddaughter - born last year - is named Ashoka. Hope it turns out better for her than all the 10 year old girls out there named Khaleesi.

Just like ANH did?

A lot less people will recognize the name Ashoka.

I liked episode 3. I’m a big fan of Star Wars ship combat and we got a lot of it. I’m still a little lost about what’s going on with Sabrine.

I didn't mind the spacewalk stunt, but the rest was just ok. They could have done a better space battle imo - I found myself wondering if I was watching Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica at times. The rest was fairly average. Nothing really moved along plot-wise, which seems like a miss considering the limited episode count.

thats basically why i didnt like it. story felt like it went nowhere. the space battle was average at best. waste of an episode. almost fell asleep watching it.

Yea and the next episode is going to be 30 minutes of the bad guys snuffing them out of the field before Ahsoka escapes and moves on. Just let’s get to the Ezra/Thrawn stuff.

the writing on this show is back to kenobi/boba sophomoric.

andor really looks to be a one off.
It’s literally live action Rebels and Clone Wars. Not sure what people were expecting here.
Which I loved so... I guess that is why I am enjoying it. Plus, and this is a big plus for anything Disney these days.... there is no in your face political or social statement being made with storyline or casting etc (well.... yet at least)

Wasn't expecting anything, I guess. And I would watch a star wars show on the sourcing of parts for a star destroyer. I just wish the writing was better. The writing for Andor is top drawer.

I’m sure that will be the S1 cliff hanger and we’ll have to wait for S2 to actually see them do anything

I think Andor is the best series they have done for Star Wars for sure. It is a different vein but I am enjoying it. Being a big fan of Clone Wars and Rebels... maybe that is natural for me.
