Here's my bunch again

Been a while since I've pondered the make-up of my team.

As to the questions.

1) My roster is as above.

2) Um, I'm the only one with Fasano, Gresham, and Winslow at TE? In other words, not very.

3) It's gonna be tough to get through. I'd probably say about par but that might be a generous estimate.

QBs - Rivers, D Anderson, Stafford. Stafford ended up being a waste unfortunately, if he were playing I'd feel that much better about my QBs. Rivers has been the horse. Glad that Anderson's at least playing now so he's an okay fall-back. 100 of the entries left have these 2 QBs.

RBs - ADP, Foster, T Jones, Scott, Spiller, L Washington. Spiller has been a disaster. Leon hasn't really been a factor either. Scott may show up more soon now that the season has been blown up. Really, it's a 3-man show. Was very glad to see T Jones break out of his slump - he's probably a big key to any chance I have. A total of 18 entries have ADP, Foster, and T Jones. Throw in Scott and it's down to 2.

WRs - Calvin, Gaffney, Mike Williams, Branch, L Robinson, L Murphy, H Douglas, Berrian. Berrian is everyone's favorite bust. Theoretically the change in coach at least might give him a chance, no? Okay probably not. Douglas has been a very small bit player. If I get anything from him it's either gravy or indicates a disaster with the rest of my players. Good to see Murphy getting worked back in, hope he can contribute. Same thing goes for Laurent Robinson who came back from the dead to be my flex this week for the first time since week 1. If he gets going that could be a big thing for my entry. Branch has proved a great investment of $3 - that trade was a big break for sure. Tampa Mike remains steady and is sorta like a mini-Foster in that everyone has him. Gaffney similarly has been steady but not spectacular. I need him to pick it up. Very happy with my selection of Calvin, he is who I thought he was. Will be saying prayers for the continued health of Sean Hill. Not an overpowering bunch but pretty steady with 6 guys who have a realistic chance to contribute each week going forward. 6 entries, including mine, have my top 4 of Calvin, Gaffney, Tampa Mike and Branch. 3 entries, including mine, have the same top 6. One other entry has 7 of the same 8 guys (he doesn't have H Douglas - I don't have S Holmes, guess he wins that one :lmao: )

TEs - Winslow, Gresham, Fasano. Kinda the signature of my team as I'm the only entry who took all 3 of these guys (and eschewed St. Jermichael in the process). I've gotten about 20 points per week from the combo (including the 5 times I've used them at flex). I'd probably go stronger at TE next time around but this bunch has been solid and exceeded expectations. Before the season, this is the section of the team most apt for ridicule :goodposting: But I'm the only 1 that has these 3 :)

PKs - Janikowski, Bryant, Bironas. These are the 3 most popular kickers, though my entry is only 1 of 28 that has all 3. I'm happy with both the choice to go with 3 and their production.

TDs - Chicago, Detroit, Tampa Bay. I'm happy I went with 3 defenses and very happy these were the 3. There are 7 entries left that have these 3 defenses.

So, all in all, I have an alright shot to make it the finals but not great. I'm unique in a couple areas but I'm not sure that my unique guys are great enough to give me a real chance at winning.

Gotta love the contest though :)

Not going to be on as much the next few days. Good luck to those avoiding the Turk while eating their turkey! :lmao:

-QG

Btw, best gamble of the contest appears to be Roethlisberger as his owners have the highest survival rate amongst QBs.

Funniest mystery is how Dwayne Jarrett sports the #2 survival rate in the entire contest :goodposting: I'm guessing that those owners were more likely to tune their team based on the latest latest info right before the contest closed and picked him for his (then) #2 WR status. They probably picked other guys who similarly saw a late jump in their value (but who did not jump in value based on ether).

Very curious about the 17 non-Foster owners and what kind of RB corps they have.

there's probably worse out there, but how i'm alive with this WR corps is a flippin miracle

Here is a break down of my roster and how many times I have used each guy

QB

Rivers 7, Roethlisberger 4 (It is hard to beat this combo of QB's - maybe if you had Vick as well)

RB

Foster 8, Bradshaw 7, Tolbert 5, T. Jones 4, Spiller 0, L. Washington 0, B. Scott 0, T. Choice 0

(Looks like I should have only went with 4 RB's here since my other 4 have never scored in a week for me. Tolbert and Jones have been great Flex plays and money well spent.)

WR

M. Williams 8, Calvin 7, Marshall 6, Bess 6, Garcon 3, Branch 3, Murphy 3, Finneran 2, E. Sanders 1, Camarillo 1, Stroughter 0

(went with a couple of big WR's in Calvin/Marshall - wish I would have grabbed Roddy instead of Marshall now. I think this is the position I have the most depth at. Again nothing unique here but having 11 WR's and only Marshall injuried right now helps out my team. I need Marshall to come back ASAP)

TE

Gronkowski 6, Finley 4, Scheffler 3 (This is where I screwed up with my team. I put too much in on Finley and Sheffler is injuried and somewhat of a bust. I need Gronkowski to pretty much carry me here)

K

Bironas 7, Janikowski 4, Succop 0

(Wasted money on Succop, but Bironas has been great with the long FG's)

DEF

Lions 5, 49ers 4, Saints 2

(I thought the Niners and Saints D's would have big years but it is the Lions that have been my best Defense)

-------------------------------------------------------------

So you see I have a good team but not a great or very unique team. Glad to be in week 12 and hopefully I can sqeak into week 13 but I think this week will be my hardest challenge yet. I think the 30 man roster is the way to go in this contest any extra player you can get on your oppenent the better. Guys like Tolbert, Bess, T. Jones, Branch, Murphy have added a lot of depth. I have solid backup RB's in Scott/Choice/Spiller/Washington if the guys in front of them go down they could step up as well - you never know but with all the injuries you need depth more then power to make it to the final 250.

Good Luck to everyone in week 12. Love this contest and hope to keep on trucking.

Players used through Week 11:

QB – Brady 8, Stafford 2, Anderson 1

RB – Peterson 8, Forte 4, McFadden 7, Foster 8, Taylor 0

WR – Boldin 6, Moss 8, Edelman 0, Bess 5, Murphy 3, Branch 3, Camarillo 1, Shipley 2, Crayton 5, Gage 1, Higgins 1

TE – Cooley 7, Rosario 0, Pettigrew 8

K – Buehler 4, Nedney 3, Hanson 4

D – Eagles 6, 49ers 2, Lions 3

As to the questions:

1) My roster is as above.

2) Fairly unique… Was down to #50 on uniqueness with 1600 people. I have the dubious honor of having Dante Rosario. There’s only 7 of us left that have him.

3) I’m happy to have made it this far, especially with 3 guys on the roster that have counted 0 times for a total cost of $15. Going to be tough, but I need to have my WR continue to be streaky in points as long as they continue to net above margin.

QBs – Basically down to Brady/Anderson. Brady seems to be getting his groove back and Anderson is learning to be consistent, so should be okay. Went with the idea of 1 Stud, a Tier-2 and cheap starting QB.

RBs – Started with the idea of Peterson/Forte/McFadden as I planned on RBs that had receptions. Went with the idea of 1 stud, couple of Tier-2, and a couple of Tier-3. Changed last minute to add Foster since he was a cheap RB1. Has worked out extremely well with McFadden looking fantastic. If he gets back to rhythm here after a tough PIT game, should be okay.

WRs – Definitely weak part of the team. I went with the idea on quantity over quality. Figured I would hit on 2 Tier-2 WRs (Moss and Boldin) and then take a bunch of pot shots on cheaper guys. Never figured Edelman would disappear for the entire season. Has actually worked well, as my #2 guys tend to be consistently used but I have a number of the other guys show up on odd weeks, but it helps with the variance of WR position. I like the strategy. Not glamorous, but it’s gotten me this far.

TEs – Most underrated position. If I do this again next year, I would probably dump 1 WR to take up another TE. Pettigrew has been a steal for $4. I was sold on Cooley as McNabb loves his TE and thought he was a bargain at $13 over the other stud TEs.

PKs – They produce. Cheaply. Always went with 3.

TDs – Paid too much for SF. I’m an eagles homer, so I take the Eagles every year. In addition, Detroit has tended to do well in this position. Then I picked the 49ers. Darn pre-season hype.

I’m pretty happy being this far in. Main goal was to have a few studs that had early byes (Peterson week 4) and Brady (week 5). Paid a lot of attention to bye weeks and weeks 12-16 matchup plays. Hopefully move on to the 500, but this is the tough week with 50% of field being eliminated. Team has scored over 200 pts several times and I would love to see that happen again.

Get me some Boldin and Detroit D action on Turkey Day…..

In addition, may the Turk look elsewhere for another week!

Roddy White has been my lone star. Bradshaw has been a solid RB and Tolbert contributes once in a while.

I'm not very confident though with a lot of duds lately: Jahvid Best, Jacoby Jones, Dexter McCluster, Louis Murphy and Zach Miller (OAK). Oh, and Jeff Reed is dead weight unless another team picks him up.

Yeah, the Crayton news is a bummer for me too. I've been down to 3 TE since Finley's injury, and this week Moeaki, Ben Watson and D. Rosario all went blank. I'm happy to have made the final 1k, but I am not sure how long my guys'll hold up.

Tea, 101100

Analysis:

My uniquenss now is the same as when the contest started: the V. Davis/Witten combo at TE is rare, and only 1 other team has both of them and Santonio Holmes. Of course, I'm also the only team left with the RB combo of Barber, Spiller, Washington and Choice--how's that for points just waiting to happen?

Chances for success--Depends entirely on Bradshaw and Foster carrying the rest of the deadwood at RB.

QB: Rodgers and Big Ben have survived my risking no 3rd QB. Couldn't ask for more at this point.

RB: See above. Wish I had my $43 spent on Barber, Spiller and Washington to play with.

WR: Strength of my team so far. Holmes is looking like a great investment; if Floyd, Murphy and Robinson are back to go with Tampa Mike, Homes and Garcon, I should get solid production.

TE: V. Davis and Witten--Davis's ankle is worrisome, as is Kitna's tendency to use his WR's more than his TE, but still happy with these guys.

K: 4 guys have all produced

D: TB, Detroit and Chicago have all outproduced their costs.

Not bad... I didn't save the work I did last week, not sure what I would've had for week 10 predictions. This will be fun, though. Here are my early week projection for number of surviving entries by roster size:

Code:
Size	Survive18	18919	11120 9321 7522 7723 8724 6925 7426 5727 5128 3329 2930 66
I'll look at it more in depth tomorrow and probably make some changes, though.
I never did get a chance to revisit this, but not bad for a first pass. Having a busy week here trying to get stuff done before the holiday, so I haven't updated the db yet... maybe on Friday I'll sit around, feasting on leftovers, and post some udpated info.

New York Giants

I roster Finley, Crayton, Collie, Ryan Matthews, and Eli so several players either out with injury or in Eli's case likely going to suffer greatly from injuries to his supporting cast so I see my team as one fading badly.

At this point I'm just trying to hang on long enough to get Collie back, Matthews either healthy or out Tolberts way and Nicks/Smith to return for Eli.

Only thing giving me any hope for my fading team is a lot of my core players are pretty unique. Here are some fairly unique roster combos I have:

*Only team left with Turner, Matthews and Eli and one of only 4 teams left with Turner, Matthews and Orton. One of the reasons I picked Turner and Mathews was that I liked their schedule in weeks 14-16 and in Mathews case I also liked the idea I could roster his backup, Tolbert, for $1. So if Turner and/or Mathews/Tolbert can have big weeks along with Eli or Orton it would do a lot for my cause.

*I'm one of only two teams left with Turner, Mathews and Bradshaw and the only one left with those 3 plus Tolbert.

*Only team left with Turner, Mathews and Collie. One of two teams left with Turner and Collie and only team left with the Mathews/Tolbert combo and Collie. So Collie coming back healthy would be huge.

*Only team left with Turner and my remaining TE's (Keller and the two Pats) and one of two teams left with Mathews and this TE group. In general only 7 other teams have this group of TE's.

*Only team left with Collie and Eli.

That's just some of the combos I looked at for what I consider my key players. To me it's great news that my lineup has potential to be so different but the really bad news is most of the guys who make that happen are hurt or suffering from injuries. But if I can hang on a few more weeks......

:kicksrock:  :pickle:

Thought for sure I was done with Deangelo Williams IR'd the same time McFadden faced the Steelers.

Made it by one point thanks to Philip Rivers!

:pickle: :pickle: :pickle:

(Probably done soon, but happy to have made it this far.)

My Team

Would appreciate other thoughts but I don't see me lasting much longer, injuries piling up.

It seems like less and less guys are contributing as the weeks go on to the point where I only just have enough startable guys.

Happy with my TE's, DST and Kickers though, I nailed that.

Team 108770 -

QB's - Rivers, Roethlisberger and Anderson - Very solid group - expect at least 30 per week here.

RB - Turner, Mendenhall, C Williams, A Foster, F Taylor, M Moore - I like my RB. Have 3 #1 RB's will Caddy still helping.

WR - C Johnson, M FLoyd, J Jones, D Henderson, B Berrian, D Branch, J Gage - below average group. C Johnson, FLoyd and Branch have performed well but the rest of the group were big misses at this point. To advance the two weeks I'll need one of four to explode.

TE - Daniels, Boss, Hernandez - below average - Daniels been a bust but Boss and Hernendez have balance each out.

K - Reed, Bironas and Byrant - Reed gone but two good kickers left - avged over 12 pts week.

Def - Seat, Det, Denver - went with 3 cheap Def that I believe paid off - I've avg over 10 per week.

My team is not explosive but very consistent. Highest scoring week is 185 but have avg 165pts per with the only 1 week below 160pts at 138pts.

I have a decent chance of making the final 250 but probably no shot at winning.

Good luck to all.....

For those who are still in it and lingering around the thread:1. What's your roster?2. How original is it?3. How do you rate your chances of getting through the next few weeks?
1. Flacco/StaffordFoster/LT2/Spiller/Bradshaw/Leon Washington/BradshawR. White/Austin/M. Williams (TB)/ Garcon/ L. Robinson/Jacoby Jones/Camarillo/L. MurphyKeller/Miller (oak)/GronkowskiHanson/Lindell/BironasDet/Clev/SF2. Not very3. I prob won't make it through next week. Only 1 QB... Bradshaw looks like he's gonna fall off. I have yet to score less than 160 though, so hopefully I'll score my average and continue to make the cut. (I'd take the chop though for sure)

Players used through week 11:

QB - Rivers (8), Ryan (3), Anderson (0)

RB - Chris Johnson (9), Foster (10), Leon Washington (0), Thomas Jones (6), FTaylor (0)

WR - Gaffney (7), Garcon (3), NWashington (5), MWilliams (7), Berrian (1), LRobinson (1), Chambers (0), Morgan (0), Hartline (6), Murphy (2), Branch (4), Gage (0)

TE - Daniels (0), Fasano (5), Gresham (5), Watson (5)

K - Mare (3), Bryant (6), Lindell (2)

D - SF (3), AZ (5), TB (3)

Analysis:

QB - Strongest position overall. Great year for Rivers. Solid year for Ryan. Both outperformed salary $'s.

RB - Johnson and Foster have been great and carried the load. Thomas Jones has been a solid contributor in selected weeks. Foster = best value on team by far.

WR - The strategy was to select 12 WRs who were either WR2s or had upside. So far, so good. Nothing spectacular. Probably weakest position overall.

TE - Daniels has been a bust, but Fasano, Gresham and Watson have been more than decent.

K - I'm glad I went with 3 Ks -- solid production so far.

D - AZ has had a couple 20+ weeks, but variable production overall with some high weeks and some low weeks.

FLEX - Used RB as flex 3 times. Used WR as flex 4 times. Used TE as flex 4 times. I've averaged 13.5 pts from the flex position -- from a low of 4.1 pts to a high of 24.2 pts.

Compared to the weekly cutoff, my team has always been more than 10 pts above the cutoff (so far). Six weeks (out of 11 weeks), my team was more than 40 pts higher than the cutoff.

Summary:

I think my odds of surviving the next 2 weeks and making it to the final 250 are about average (25%). There are 107 teams remaining with Chris Johnson. There are 240 teams with Rivers. My team is one of only 13 teams with both Rivers and CJohnson. If I make it to the final 250, I'll need a lot of luck to finish in the money.

My overall strategy was (1) 30-player roster, (2) invest above average $'s in QBs and RBs, and (3) rely on value-priced players and diversification with 4 TEs and 12 low-priced WRs with upside to survive to the final 250.

Where are you guys going to run queries on the teams left? I'm still in and was curious as to how similar my team is to others. I tried looking through this thread to find it, but there's a lot of posts by now...

Doug will have his power rankings up sometime tomorrow. Keep on the lookout for Doug Drinen posts.

Queryyou can find it when you click on the page for week 12 content, and look in the upper right hand corner where there is info on the subscription contest.

Just made the cut by 3 points this week. I know my team is done soon but with the shortness of my roster and being a noob to this contest i think i did ok. Team is for sure not unique.

Qbs-Rivers,Big ben,Danderson- Great qb crew but qbs alot of teams own. These guys the reason im still in.

Rb- Foster Bradshaw D.Will L.Washington Spiller- Pretty much fail on these guys. Last min decision to take out T.Jones and add Leon was pretty terrible. Barring the highly owned bradshaw and foster blowing up every week this will be my downfall.

Wrs- Roddy,Calvin,M.Williams,Berrian,Robinson,L.Murphy- Not orginal and not deep at this position. Luckily i think i picked the 2 right superstud wrs. Again highly owned players.

TEs- Witten, Gresham, Heap- Pretty happy with this group. Didnt spend to much but have got great production.

K-Bryant and Carpenter- Should of went with 3 instead of 2.

D. 49ers bears- should of went 3 cheapest ds.

Basically think should of took 1 less stud rb and wr and spread that money out on some cheaper guys. At this point I think the deeper rosters are the way to go. Though if i would of picked say S.Jhonson and T.Jones and spent a few extra bucks to go from Dwill to Gore or any of the other higher tier studs at the time I think my team would have what it takes to go all the way.

Shonn Greene Query

Total teams with these players 705

1.84% survival for Shonn Greene owners, 13 of us left. Very unique if LT goes down.

I'm out.....it was a decent run and I get further each year. Some injuries and a lack of top end scoring killed me. GL to the rest of the remaining.

there's probably worse out there, but how i'm alive with this WR corps is a flippin miracle

I was out after like week 5 last year feels good to make the final 1000

Next year I will put a little more thought into this as this year I spent all of 5 minutes on it on the final day....just didn't care at the time with my other 20 drafts going on but I sure care now.

Every week I find myself adding the scores of all my players before I see the finals then scrolling slowly down the list to see if I make it.

Was very worried as I started to scroll down tonight with 170.45 but I am safely in for 1 more week.

Would love to make the final 250.

Having only 1 TE left who keeps getting hurt every other week plus only 4 RBs rostered and a bunch of terrible WRs makes it tough.

My risk of going with only Brees/Roeth at QB paid off as I risked it for 5 weeks that Brees would not get hurt and not post crappy numbers.

That I think was a great strategy to use.

I think I am fairly unique in my roster makeup:

-- one of 7 teams with the Brady/Orton combo

-- one of 18 teams with ADP/Foster/Thomas Jones

-- the only team with TO/M.Will/S.Johnson

-- the only team with the Gonzo/V.Davis/Keller combo

I guess I have as good of chance as anybody to hang around. There are a couple things that will hold the team back:

-- if the trend with ADP keeps up

-- Brady and Orton seem to go off on the same week

-- The lack of a better RB3 option.

-- The lack of performance of my TEs

-- pretty crappy DT combo

Overall, this is probably the thing that I look forward to the most during the offseason - GREAT contest. Needed a little redemption after my week 1 knock out last year....

Btw, best gamble of the contest appears to be Roethlisberger as his owners have the highest survival rate amongst QBs.
Roethlisberger was a cagey gamble... he saved several dollars vs. one of the full priced - full season QBs.$5 saved = Tolbert and Shipley (for example)

Off the top of my head...you have too many QBs for an optimal lineup. Your success will likely depend on Forte. Foster and Bradshaw are covered by the field. No other depth so you'll need Forte to go nuts and Foster to stink it up. WRs look average. Most of your WRs are highly owned except Crabtree. You can definatley make up ground v. the field at TE/K/D. Congrats on making the finally 1000, better than I did.

Unique: Yes

Chance of winning: 5%

Strengths: Running Backs

Weakness: Receivers. (thought I was sitting pretty until Moss was traded (hurt welker) and clayton went down for the year)

Good luck to all.

We'll see if they get "slaughtered" to where their survival rate drops below the average.
Between now and week 10 we'll be going from 5000 teams to 1600 (excluding staff entries). That means over the next four weeks, the survival rate for currently active rosters will be 32%. I'll bet a 2011 FBG subscription that the "all top studs and Foster" teams don't match that survival rate over that span.
Whatever happened to Ahmad Rashad Fan? I really wish he would've taken this bet with me - we're not even through week 10 yet and I would've already won. :lmao:
The last of these teams were eliminated this week.

Average weekly scores of the remaining live teams, by roster size:

First stab at projecting the number of teams that will still be alive next week, by roster size:

Code:

If the playoffs had been held in weeks 9-11, this 18-man roster would have won the $25,000.

There are 14 teams still alive that have survived the cut by one point or less in two separate weeks.
Plus he didn't use 2 of the players on his roster (Prater and Lance Moore) during weeks 9-11, so he effectively had a 16-player roster. It's certainly possible for an 18-player roster to win the contest in weeks 14-16. It's just that the odds are heavily against it.

Fishished 1330 overall. 102332 just couldn't cut it this week. I knew I was finished when I won all my other games this week.

GL to all left. I had a blast and am proud of my finish

In the sense that the odds are heavily against any individual team scoring the most points in weeks 14-16, sure. But I don't know that 18-man rosters are at a much bigger disadvantage in those weeks than a larger roster. They're clearly at a disadvantage in weeks 1-13, but the few that do make it to the finals probably have just as good a chance of winning as anyone else, give or take. The final 250 is basically a lottery - larger rosters have a few more tickets, but only one winning combo will rise to the top and it could be anyone. I don't believe those that say 18-man rosters have an advantage in the finals, but I also don't necessarily believe they have any kind of severe disadvantage.

I would guess that once you are in the final 250 nobody is worse than 1:500 to win and nobody is better than 1:150.
