Succession on HBO (3 Viewers)

Exceptional episode. I assume Tom told Logan but would have also made sense for Connor to do so. Man that was good.

Yeah, it was pretty good. I assume Tom told Logan as well. Seems like he's finally realized that Shiv isn't in it for the long run. Guess he thinks that his willingness to take the fall and go to jail gave him an "in" that wont go away even when Shiv eventually divorces him.

Very good acting all around. I thought Culkin in particular was really good in the last scene. He's all snark and sarcasm until he finally comes to the realization that his father (and his mother) is purposely and permanently screwing him...and not feeling bad about it all. And you can just see his heart break. Awesome job.

All their lives the kids have been the little lords and ladies of the castle, roaming the halls and demanding deference as their birthright.

Unless the deal falls through (very possible), those days of privilege are ovah.

You don't think Tom had Greg tell Logan?  I think that was the offer Tom made to Greg after he got off phone with Shiv...

It was definitely Tom. The way Logan glad-handled him when he was leaving the room was the giveaway. Then Shiv recognized it could only have been him, it was all over her face at the end of the scene.

Couple of questions here that I am unsure of:

1. What company in real life is comparable to GoJo? I am a little in the dark as to what GJ is or what it does.

2. I am not really feeling the kids getting all pissed that Logan is selling. I mean they will still become madly rich and would still have a job in the short term.

3. So does Shiv now know that Tom effed them and that was the look as it faded to black?

I assume gojo is like Facebook? With the way they were discussing the market cap I assumed Facebook

I won't be surprised in season 4 when the FTC blocks this deal and we see all the machinations from that fallout.   And my money's on Greg being the one telling Logan at Tom's direction since it would also make him look good in his grandfather's eyes.

I think GoJo is supposed to be some sort of revolutionary streaming platform and a supposedly perfect marriage with a dinosaur media company like Waystar.

Yeah, when Connor, who is sort of that amalgamation of gold bug, pseudo-Libertarian, conspiracy-friendly brand of today’s Republican Party, was whining about being “deplatformed” by companies like GoJo, I think that shows GoJo is basically FaceTwitGoogTube.

No question in my mind it was Greg who told Logan.

And I also don't think it's a lock that it was at Tom's direction. I could see that pat on the shoulder from Logan being a red herring to make us think that.

Shiv of course now thinks that, but I think she may be incorrect and that will finally blow up that marriage once and for all.

Yeah, it seems like its basically a streaming platform with no decent content. Imagine if Netflix had never started creating its own stuff AND all the big studios created their own platforms and took their content with them (leaving Netflix with just the leftover junk)

Not sure why it even matters that someone told Logan ahead of time; he could just as easily have modified the divorce agreement after being confronted. He was probably working on it already once the new husband started asking for favors...

Greg wouldn’t have known without Tom, right?  And if it’s not at tom’s direction than their conversation doesn’t make sense.

Random thoughts

Some of my favorite lines:

-Who's the real victim here?  I had to wait 45 minutes for a gin and tonic.

-Pass me the ****ing shotgun

-I've been planning this since i was nine.

I may have gotten a word or two wrong

Amazing episode.  It was mostly a down season but that’s one of the best episodes of television I’ve ever seen

Just a great portrayal of betrayal…I’d say Obi-Wan/Anakin is the only equivalent in modern cinema

Greg, the “Weirdest King in Europe”

that was an amazing episode. I know this show isn’t for everyone, but for the people that it does resonate with (like me), it’s probably one of the best.

I had the same thought. Enjoyed it a lot but logically it's a twist just for the sake of it. Logan wouldn't know/remember that he gave up the change of control clause in his divorce?  Of all things?

maybe never assumed they would actually use it. he doesn't think too highly of them, after all.

I agree with the common consensus that the show really goes nowhere.  There's been very little that's changed in the three seasons, but it continues to be well worth watching.

With that I'm off to go make Pierce an offer.

Its probably a little odd to have a change of control clause that requires a super-majority, but then allow that clause to be  changed to a simple majority through amendment of a (many) years old divorce settlement. And certainly I'd expect Kendall's lawyers to advise him of that possibility when he was "triple-checking" on it during the car ride.  But whatever, its not the craziest plot device the writers on this show have used by a long shot. I got behind and binged the final three episodes yesterday.  I thought the season finished pretty strong and am looking forward to more of the same in season 4.  Once I accepted it for what it is, this show is pretty high value entertainment for me.

We saw that kens share was 2 bills. That seems like plenty to run off with.   Connor is the smart one.  Gets a sugar baby and a compound in Sante Fe and cashes in.

Maybe more like Meta, as Roman brought up AI. GoJo has consolidated many culture related outlets into a huge entertainment platform that Roman had mentioned  that included sports, gambling along with movies with it during his pitch. So maybe an emerging Disney (see: ESPN).

So I guess Tom and Greg finally had teh sex and got it over with, being that Tom wanted Greg to have the baby he couldn't with Shiv.

I can see why Shiv is reluctant having Tom's baby, because the baby weight would add to her already generous hips. Those hips punch way above Roman's weight. I love a great backside, but the final episode showed her past Kardashian levels of butt, with extra points because they aren't implants.

Anything else good on Max that's come out in the last couple years?  Considering cancelling.  I swear to god I'll drive you off a bridge if you suggest Sex and the City.

"I mean who is the real victim here" is now on pretty consistent rotation.  That with "you know who drinks milk?" and "They don't pre poop them"

So I was flipping through Shotime last night as came across a movie about strippers and the wife was asleep….so of course I checked it out for acting talent. Sure enough cousin Greg has a starring role as a strippers boyfriend(possibly pimp!?).  :lmao:

Unbelievable performance of you stumble across this one, along with Coogies brother from the Chi.

I'm only 4 episodes into s3 and trying not to be spolied. Scanning this thread for an answer is too risky.

What made Greg flip to the Waystar lawyers?  Logan? The Nero speech? I missed something.

He was pissed at Kendall about the watch.

Just watched the pre-poop bag convo

It’s like Billions meets Arrested Development.

I tried binging Billions but it's like Suits with nudity, language, and Metallica. The music they use on it kills me too. Brotimes shows aren't on par with HBO's, although a few of them are ok.

Succession is kinda like Veep but with helicopters. Greg is the new Jonah. Shiv is the new Amy. Kendall the new Selina. Roman the new Dan.

I dunno who the new Richard Splett would be.

I've also compared it to Veep, although Veep is more openly a comedy whereas Succession still tries to lean drama.  I think they also both peaked in Season 1, and by the end of Season 3 were both completely off the rails.
