Hopefully the extra time off gets him 100% when Dak is back (since Dak will actually look his way)

I don't see uncertainty. Seems a lot like the team wanted to get his knee right for when Dak comes back, and with Ferguson & Hendershot both available in a game they probably expected to lose, it made sense to bench him for this one.

Again, he practiced in full on Friday. Reports were that he looked great.

IMO they're more worried about ROS than Sunday night's game.

Last nights game was pretty darn important. If he could have played and helped the team win you would think he would have.

But if he was at risk to injure it further (as he did when he rushed back last week and aggravated the PCL) then you bench him and let your depth work for you to protect you for the ROS.

With a limited QB like Rush at the helm, it's not like Schultz would have been that much more helpful than the Ferguson / Hendershot duo - one of whom scored, the other came damn close to scoring btw. But Rush most certainly did not give the Cowboys a great shot at beating the Eagles in PHI, so I totally understand the scratch despite the full practice.

I'm not saying last night wasn't an important game for the Cowboys. I'm saying Schultz is too important to the Cowboys ROS to risk jacking his knee up and missing multiple games. It was a smart decision to give him a week of rest IMO.

Schultz was not listed on the final injury report, but the same was true last week before he was a surprise inactive due to a pre-game setback with his injured knee. He got through warm-ups fine this week, though, and gets back Dak Prescott at quarterback. Schultz is a risky play, but the upside is there for a big game in a great matchup.

I've streamed TEs in the past and it's about as much fun as a root canal. Ying yang pairings aren't any easier, no doubt I'll pick the wrong one 1/3rd of the time.

But the best ability is availability, and I'm done with checking practice reports; no more guessing if this is the week Schultz will be a GTD again. Happy to rid my team of a roster clogger. “And I could hear that old Negro spiritual once more crying out: ‘Free at last, free at last, Great God Almighty, I’m free at last.’ ”

IME injury plagued seasons don't morph into upside. Hope I'm wrong, I like Schultz a lot when he's healthy. This year, he's not.

Yeah, this is where I'm at -- for me its still trying/ hoping to get value out of a 5th round pick (where I could have chosen Josh Jacobs instead) ---

I dumped two mid-round picks this week - Schultz and Edmonds. Little slow on the latter.

Did some preliminary ROS scheduling & realized Dulcich/Engram are like a good DT pairing, when one has a tough TE matchup the other has a plus matchup.

Strong team (5-2) but got a whopping 6.8 pts - TOTAL - from TE WKs 2-6. Can’t imagine Ying/Yang pairing being worse lol.

Thank you. Feel marginally better whiffing on my 6th round, TE6. Pitts went TE3/3.07, think that was close to his ADP. 4/5 (Waller) went B2B 1/2 round before Schultz. Hock went in the 7th - what’s he given his managers, 1 elite game & a steaming pile.

Terrible year for the position. 5th place team in our league took Kelce & Andrews with 2.10/3.03. Everyone else in the league is basically in the same boat.

Dalton Schultz caught 4-of-4 targets for 31 yards and two touchdowns in the Cowboys' Week 12 win over the Giants.​

The Cowboys totaled three tight end TDs, with rookie Peyton Hendershot also scoring on a jet sweep. Schultz's first tight end was especially impressive, with Dak Prescott finding him in the corner of the end zone on a 3rd-and-goal from the 15-yard line. He scored a 6-yard TD later in the third quarter. Schultz will be a TE1 against the Colts in Week 13.

Dalton Schultz Manages Just Two Catches In Week 15​

Dalton Schultz hauled in two of his four targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 40-34 overtime loss to the Jaguars.

Fantasy Impact:​

Schultz went quiet on Sunday, taking a backseat to the CeeDee Lamb and Noah Brown show in the Dallas receiving room. It was a disappointing start to the fantasy playoffs for the tight end, who has shown flashes of elite production for the position. Expect him to bounce back to TE1 status for Week 16.

Was painful to experience last night because he was on my bench in a FFPC TE premium dynasty final. I don't even have great options in over him, probably Diontae Johnson and Dotson, but he had not been doing a lot lately and I was starting Lamb and incorrectly thought this was not a game to start two Cowboy pass catchers as I worried about the game script playing against a team that seemed to go into preseason mode.

Don’t know about anyone else but he was initially a FA waiver wire grab for me when what’s his face that was expected to have a good season in 2020 got injured. Personally, likewise got Bellinger from 4th round and FA in 2 leagues, Okonkwo as FA this year.

Basically, the more I play this game, the less I want to spend high rookie picks on TEs. It can be random who breaks out, barely any that do do it in the first two years, and even if they do live up to expectations eg Hockenson, do they ever increase in value very much ? Hockenson cost a mid to late 1st as a rookie. Would he be worth anymore now ??

Good RAS score combined with a sub 4.62 40 yard seems to be the best indication as a starting point as to where to mine for talent

Dalton Schultz caught 7-of-8 targets for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the Cowboys' Wild Card Round win over the Bucs.​

The connection between Schultz and Dak Prescott was on full display versus the Bucs. Prescott consistently found his tight end open with space to run, resulting in two gains of 20 or more yards. At the end of the night, Schultz had moved the chains three times on top of his pair of scores. With a consistent second receiver nowhere to be found, Schultz has quickly become Prescott's favorite target when CeeDee Lamb is covered. Entering the Divisional Round, Schultz will look to stay hot versus a stingy San Francisco defense.

Dude is literally a cornerstone piece of a 2-time championship team for me in a TE premium FFPC league, where I came out of the inaugural draft with question marks at TE that didn’t pan out at all. So I took a stab at this guy in week 2 of last year and he solidified TE last year (and this). I’m really hoping he sticks with Dallas since the fit seems to be perfect.

Yep. This a good way to ascertain who has at least potential to score points in fantasy at TE.

Shultz is a really good receiver and when I watch Dallas, I am amazed how many games he is basically ignored. Seems like good things happen when they target him like they did tonight.

I hope I'm wrong for my dynasty leagues. But it seems like Ferguson is the next solid but unspectacular TE waiting to step into that magical role.

Dalton Schultz caught 5-of-10 targets for 27 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' Divisional Round loss to the 49ers.​

Schultz did the block-and-release move for the only Cowboys touchdown of the game, but was otherwise well-contained by the 49ers back seven and generated almost no yards after the catch before lollygagging on his final target of the game and not getting a second foot down, costing the team 15 yards. Schultz and Prescott have a good rapport for fantasy football, and despite dealing with a sprained PCL, Schultz finished with a 57/577/5 line in 15 games. He'll be a free agent coming off the franchise tag this offseason, and Dallas -- as usual -- doesn't have much cap space entering the offseason. His fantasy value will be highly contingent on reupping with the Cowboys, and he could be just a TE2 in some other situations.

I’d be surprised if one play changed the Cowboys’ plans, but that sure wasn’t a good look for him with the game on the line. In any event, it’s not like he’s not replaceable so they might have been planning to him test the waters anyway.
