TE Sam LaPorta, DET (1 Viewer)

I'm facing him this week and I'm fully expecting some regression in this game. I just hope he doesn't take all of Jamo's targets.

Regression? That would imply LaPorta has been lighting i t up, which he hasn't. I think there's no where to go but up!

Regression works both downwards and upwards
For some reason, my brain thinks "regression" means downward.

When you boss tells you your work has regressed, I would not be expecting a big raise. It is all good, we know what he meant.

Lead all TE last year in TD. Without the TDs he's just as good as any other TE available and was overdrafted.

Makes sense though, teams have a year of tape on him now. I'd continue to expect him to struggle.

After Gibbs, Brown, Williams, and Montgomery he's probably at best 4th in line for touches.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not a stats pro but glad y'all gave me some leeway here. 🍻

came back in the game after the half but then limped off the field again.

Not sure what's wrong.
Ankle certainly got sprained, trapped under a defender and rolled, suppose it wasn't a "high" ankle sprain. He had a calf injury in camp too.

A lost season for his ADP for most, not to say he won't return some value most likely

Any practice reports? Not on the FBG injury email…

Monday night game may force owners to find another option?

Considering the slow start, I would rather see him rest through the Bye and be ready for Week 6.

Injury report will be today because the game is Monday night. LaPorta is day-to-day and will probably be listed as limited on the injury report. At this point I would be surprised if he doesn't play.

Hard to roll with a guy that may or may not play on a Monday night.

If you’re starting LaPorta need a backup plan ready in case of a last minute inactive.

My guess is Brock Wright is on most waiver-wires if you want to pick him up and ride this to game time.

Agree.

Just have to have the ability and roster spot or IR designation available to make that move last minute if needed.

Noah Fant and Jonnu Smith probably are too.

Any thought it might be more than just this week?
I have such garbage at TE in a couple of leagues I have LaPorta I would rather just pick up Brock Wright and plug him in if LaPorta sits. I'd rather play him instead of players like Juwan Johnson and Brenton Strange and take the off-chance LaPorta suits up.

Snagged Ertz before he played in the Sunday night games after the ankle injury happened. If LaPorta sits, I’d probably rather go with an Ertz or Fant over Brock Wright, especially since the Rams are on bye in week 5. Would rather have a two week plug in over Wright.

Still may roll with Kmet over Laporta, but luckily I have a while to mull it over. If Laporta was totally healthy, probably wouldn't question it, but I can't shake that they may limit his involvement to protect him. Seahawks have been pretty good covering TEs this year too. If he goes off, it just makes me more confident for future weeks, which is plenty for a game where my expectation was a 0 due to absence.

Weird, I read a report the other day that said the Seahawks weren't that good against TEs, but really good against WRs.

Yeah, Seattle hasn't been good against TEs at all. I mean, 2 weeks ag Hunter Henry went 8-109 on them. The other 2 games they faced Bo Nix and Skylar Thompson. As far as I'm concerned Seattle has gone 0 for 1 against TEs.

Frankly, I'm not sure how great they are against WRs either. Sure, no WR has topped 50 yards, but again, they played Denver, New England, and Skylar Thompson led Miami. Detroit is BY FAR their toughest matchup of the season.

This biggest concern is the Lions could play it safe and rest him before the bye week.
That does not sound like a Detroit mindset. Playing it safe is not how I think of the Detroit staff or players. It does not mean he will or will not have a good game. Monday night in primetime, with a rocking crowd and the fancy uniforms, is a recipe for a big game for Detroit.

I have the exact same decision. Will probably go Kmet as I don’t like the Monday night game for Laporta and risk an inactive or lesser amount of snaps.

Ack, my bad, forgot about the Henry game and must’ve missed something when looking at the stats.

Still in a bit of a wait-and-see pattern with how this Detroit offense is going to look as well though, it hasn’t burned the house down like it was last season and overall feels a bit more conservative (like all offenses are sort of doing right now). Maybe that means more short-intermediate routes with the TEs, but probably will mean more touches for the RBs and lots of blocking. I still have a day to be convinced for LaPorta though, so I’m watching this situation closely.

What's the deal with LaPorta? I may have a trade lined up for him (Posted here) and am curious why he isn't setting the world on fire like last year?

He was hurt in camp, Jamo emerged, Detroit recommitted to the run and their defense is better which is hurting game scripts.

Put it all together and here we are. My two cents anyway.

He has had at least a couple injuries. Some plays they installed in TC have been repped by other players (bc he was dealing w/ a hammy this summer) & they were more confident using the guy who ran it in practice.

Coming off bye week, he will be the healthiest he’s been all year.

This morning I shipped Bowers & Mostert and received LaPorta & Warren.

Traded away
  • Bowers is FantasyPros consensus TE1 ROS & has a Wk 10 bye
  • Mostert just got healthy, 80 yards & 2 receptions last week, on a Week 6 bye
Traded for
  • Laporta, consensus TE6 ROS, already had his bye
  • Warren (week 7 bye) might get healthy at some point

FBGs pre-Week 7 projects Bowers will outscore LaPorta 143.56-99.05 RoS...oooh, I think I might have made a big mistake
  • LaPorta 1 target again, 1-25-0 TE37. Warren 44 rush & 2-15. Bowers 10-93-0 TE4 Mostert 50 rush 1 fum. I didn’t just make a bad trade; I made the worst trade I have made over 20+ years in 45+ leagues.

I'm wondering if this is the bye low moment for Laporta.

Thinking of dangling Kincaid + Something to see if I can get him.

Laporta and Kincaid are not far off in terms of trade value from what I can see.

Just think LaPorta is part of a much more functional offense and you're going to see Laporta pop off here and there while also having a decent floor.

LaPorta owner in my 10 teamer dropped him last week to pick up Conklin. Pretty surprised and even more surprised to pick him up when waivers ran Sunday. Think he's an upgrade and certainly should be pretty healthy coming off the BYE. Straight into my lineup over Kincaid, here's hoping for more than i've been getting

have him in a few leagues but also picked up Kraft few weeks back and still crazy how Kraft still ranked lower according to "experts" I wonder if they watch the games or it's just safer to put LaPorta higher. Why? Unless they know Lions are suddenly going to make him a more focal point that we don't know about? I'll keep starting Kraft over LaPorta until it looks clear he's a bigger part of their offense like last year. Kraft's last game basically matched entire season of LaPorta output.

That is crazy.

I wholeheartedly agree but I was even more flabbergasted I got him with the number 8 waiver out of 10 teams. I don't know what to expect, I don't follow players that aren't on my team too closely. Stats-wise, not great, but hoping the 2 weeks off will allow him to get straightened out health-wise and maybe more integrated in the gameplan.

Same boat as you and even considering trading LaPorta for another positional need at this point.

10 teamer leagues are different dynamic than 12+, its normal to see a quick trigger

(#8 WW getting him is super weird though)

I don't think @BobbyLayne bought low at all. That was full price for sure and may have even tipped a little on top of it.
He may not have, but that doesn't mean it still isn't the buy low moment :)

Let’s circle back to this in 8 weeks
