THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (1 Viewer)

Well, son is off for interviews soon. Just got him 2 very nice Joseph Abboud slim fit suits. Charcoal and Navy. White, blue and ecru shirts as a foundation to give him flexibility. Has plenty of Italian silk ties from our trip to Florence. To finish his ensemble he's looking to get some great brown shoes and matching belt. I'm a bit older, so any that you younger FBG's would recommend that would a) look great in a business setting b) still enough style for less formal situations c) be comfortable to wear?
If you're looking for something more affordable, DSW carries some pretty decent dress shoes like these http://m.dsw.com/shop/product/277642?prodId=277642&brand=300125&activeCats=men,300125&isBrand=y&categoryName=men. and http://m.dsw.com/shop/product/225066?prodId=225066. Also Cole Haan, J&M, even Banana Republic carries some decent dress shoes when you find them on sale.

You should never get Banana Republic for less than 40% off. You won't have to wait long to find 40. With Bonobos you have to be patient to find the best prices. You're looking to find items on sale with an additional 30% off sale items. In December, I found these darker khakis in slim straight for $68 plus 30% off, so $47 plus tax with free shipping. That's the best you can expect to find at Bonobos, but as I said it takes time.

Get him some nice Allen Edmonds, can't go wrong with Park Avenue. Buy him the matching belt as well. Those shoes and belt will be in his wardrobe for 10+ years and he will look like a man that knows what he is doing. Just teach him how to treat them well over time (all the info is at AE website).

One of the most common mistakes for young men is overlooking the importance of shoes, and today's $25 belts only last a couple of years

What Mike Bloomberg and I have in common

One brown, one black. I prefer oxfords and wingtips over loafers, but $400 for a couple pairs of versatile work shoes is money well spent.

Depends on whether he's wearing a suit to work every day. If it's just for an interview or a rare occasion, I really don't see getting AEs with a Joseph Abboud suit. If he's wearing a day suit ever day, I agree.

Anyone recommend a solid pair of Chukkas? I've beaten up some Aldo chukkas (brown and gray) for every day casual look...similar to these:

http://www.aldoshoes.com/us/men/shoes/sneakers/98662642-maughan/28

I don't mind paying a bit more ~$100 range if they can last me for a while.

Also, what type of chinos are you guys rocking? I recently outgrew my 30x30 Levi's 511 trousers for every day wear (need 31x30, too many squats) and before I buy another set looking to see what else is out there at a reasonable price.

Like the slim/skinny and tapered leg. So looking into:

- Dockers D1

- UNIQLO Chinos

Tried on some Bullhead Chinos from Pac-Sun and they fit comfy and well, but tough to find a 31x30.
I don't really consider what you linked as a "chukka" but here's another very affordable boot with good reviews. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000WU6TN0?vs=1Eta: The beeswax ones actually look pretty cool
Clark has been making desert boots for a long time...they've mastered it...No reason to go elsewhere....I have 2 color options at all times.

Any suggestions on where to buy casual button shirts that can be worn without tucking in? Seems like shirts I find have long flaps that would look ridiculous untucked. I know the ones folded and pinned in stores are meant to be tucked, but even most of the ones hanging are the same.

Since we seem to be on shoe chat at the moment, Nordstrom's has some good shoes discounted right now. Thinking about getting these for Fridays. Digging the subtle blue for :style: without being too overwhelming.

Also we are all slowly dying and no one will remember you in 100 years. Have a great Wednesday.

Kenneth Cole gets a bad rap but he puts out a few decent things as well. I like those.Best time of the year to get Nordstrom stuff. Big clearance in February.

Kenneth Cole> KC Reaction>Aldo>Steve Madden

None are especially good, I think, but at a pricepoint that makes them good for a year or less. They are the H & M of footwear in that way. Crap leather, I think.

Here's a suggestion

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/product.jsp?itemId=prod79820048&eItemId=prod75470009&searchType=SALE&parentId=cat980731&icid=&rte=%252Fcommon%252Fstore%252Fcatalog%252Ftemplates%252FET1.jhtml%253FNo%253D0%2526_requestid%253D14227%2526N%253D4294966960%2526st%253Ds%2526pageSize%253D160

Should be something like that, somethign where it would be impossible to change a lightbulb and still be tucked in.

You seem to be up on this, but 90% of the times you see a guy with an untucked shirt it is of the other type though

I was looking at something similar Saturday. I like these better. We might be shoe twins.

This thread seems to have had the pendulum swing completely to the other side of Major's Mr. Porter shtick.
No kidding. WTF is going on here? I can't leave this thread for a few weeks without it becoming a Walmart free for all. You guys disgust me.

:lmao: Find the "go-to shoes" thread to see how the FFA general population is dressing. Most should never leave the house.

The Bonobos would have to be at least half off for me to consider spending that much on chinos, maybe more, but I hear they're great. The Pima tees look great.
Flapgreen - you dont seem like much of a chinos guy. Have you tried meggings?

If you dont mind spending a few more dollars Cole Haan originated this style and come with the Nike Air soles. Damn comfortable, look great and prob more :style: options.

When you buy these (or Allen Edmonds, ect.), expect to own them for 10+ years. It will give you a better sense of the value.
Yeah, AE are fairly priced and don't go on deep discount very often. I don't mind paying retail on AE.
AE definitely has pretty deep discounts (30-50% off), and are having one now. Plus you can get high-quality seconds from their outlets, often at 50% off retail. You usually won't notice anything wrong with the seconds, and they are eligible for AE's recrafting service where you ship them your shoes and they send them back looking brand new for $125. I have four shoes from AE now. Combined retail on them was $1428, price I paid was $614.
I'm finally checking out the AE seconds option. Emailed the Freeport store (none anywhere near me) and got a quick reply with a spreadsheet showing everything available in my size. Took a long time to go through, since there aren't any pictures or significant descriptions... just shoe name, color, and price.

Some really nice deals though... having a hard time narrowing it down to a reasonable order. Cronmok in tan, Neumok in tan suede or brown distressed leather, and Center Fielder boat shoes in dark brown for a total of $350 seems pretty good. I wasn't looking for boat shoes but can't really go wrong for fifty bucks.

I usually get those shirts from J Crew or the Gap. The length works well for me untucked with jeans or chinos.

I wear one of these Calibrate shirts untucked, in navy. Perfect length without looking like it should be tucked in. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/calibrate-slim-fit-non-iron-dress-shirt/3683722?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Blue&resultback=3902&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-1_11_A

My work dress consists of dress slacks and a button down shirt each day. So I wear the #### out of slip on solid brown and black shoes. I'm really not a fan of buckles or anything on there (unless it's subtle). I'm looking for a new pair of each. If possible, I'd like them both to be able to go with jeans...definitely the brown ones.

What's the general consensus on something like these?

Black - http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/kenneth-cole-reaction-speak-easy-venetian-loafer/3615412?origin=category&BaseUrl=Shoes

Brown 1 - http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/kenneth-cole-reaction-the-right-note-loafer-online-only/3352280?origin=category&BaseUrl=Shoes

Brown 2 - http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/gordon-rush-adrian-slip-on/3222995?origin=category&BaseUrl=Loafers+%26+Slip-ons

I like those Tiger Fan.

KC Reaction supposed to not be that great but I really like the design of those Speak Easy venetian loafers on the first link.

Some nice Nordstrom's finds by flapgreen as well.

A big fan of the Cole Haan Madison Plain Oxford. Picked up a couple pairs (black and british tan) the beginning of December for $110 each (down from $250).

The AE Seconds is a great way to go. Fast and quality service and the seconds I've bought from them, I really can't tell why they're called seconds. I hear that varies with some but my experience has been great with them.

Can you forward me the email they sent you Stu with the spreadsheet? And how is there not an AE in Dallas but 2 in Houston?

Bloody pants says I love you.

Do you wear size 12D? If not, my list won't help you. Email any of the outlets for your size... shoebank@allenedmonds.com is the primary one I guess but I used freeport@allenedmonds.com

We have the stores here but not the outlets. None west of the Mississippi actually.

Bring a camcorder and a large cucumber.

How big of a discount is there on those shoes, Stu?
It varies a lot, but I'd say the average is roughly $100 under retail. The Brooks Brothers versions and some other closeouts have further discounts.

Example for Park Avenues in black:

Retail = $365

Seconds = $199

Brooks version = $149

Currently a sale going until the 17th. No idea what the prices are after that. I read there are sometimes 2 for $250 deals on closeouts.
