The FBG News Blogger has been riddled with typos for quite some time (1 Viewer)

Chunky Soup

I've noticed a lot in the past and just came across more errors in FBG News Blogger. I wanted to bring this up a while ago to FBG, but I thought I'd throw it in here.

I hate to call people out on spelling, but being content directly from FBG and one of the most used features, I'd expect better spelling. This is one of the worst I've seen:

LT M. Pepsis Returns From Torn ACL

Lee Rasizer, Rocky Mountain News - [Full Article]

Denver Broncos left tackle Matt Pepsis finally took the field for the first time in seven months since reconstructive right knee surgery. "We've got a game plan to get him well," HC Mike Shanahan said. "He did football-related activities (Tuesday), obviously drill work. And he looked good, it's a good sign." "I'm sure I'll have some setbacks and days where it doesn't feel good," Pepsis said, "but I'm sure by opening day I'll be back to 100 percent."
Of course, the guys name is Lepsis. There are, especially in season, a LOT of bad mistakes on the news blogger. Just a heads-up to FBG and IMO you guys can really improve there.

All we can do (as Bloggers) is apologize for those periodic errors and try and do a better job of catching stuff going forward. It's sometimes frustrating though.....like an article from the Akron Beacon Journal that referred to running back Jerome Harrison of the Browns as "James Harrison," or ESPN periodically misspelling the name of its own reporters! Typos are easily avoidable. However, if somebody is going through 175+ news sources for NFL player news in a three-hour period (a typical shift) and comes across an article that refers to a player that they might personally not be as familiar to them, it does occasionally happen. :goodposting:

It's not meant to be an excuse either, but I think over half our team is brand new this spring (less than 8-10 shifts under their belts)...so we (as a team) are still getting back up to speed. We've got a lot of great guys though, and a great "head coach!" We'll get there. Constant improvement...and a desire to achieve 100% accurate and timely summaries of the comings and goings of the NFL. That, and the guys working shifts are generally checking all of the work of the shifts in front of them too...and any typos or ??? that are out there are usually corrected within a matter of hours.

Hi Doc... thanks for your thoughts on this...We are always trying to strike the balance between timely, quick-hitting blurbs and 100% accuracy in regards to spelling, punctuation, etc. It's easy for a reporter, going gung-ho to post a blurb and move on without double-checking his work due to his drive and ambition to get to the next blurb quickly.

I believe we have a great team in place and while many are still learning the craft, steps are being made in the right direction...

If you discover a misspelled word, feel free to email us or contact myself via PM and we'll get it fixed up.

Thanks again. Always appreciate the feedback.

I'm happy to weed through an occasional grammar or spelling error/typo to get the fastest and most up to date news.

This spelling error is mine. Never even realized it until seeing this today. Thanks for pointing it out DocT. I happen to be very critical of my own posted news blurbs and hate to make mistakes. In the future, I will continually strive for perfection, as that is what our members expect.I believe FBG members are some of the most intelligent people in the world and would not dare to think otherwise.

Thanks again DocT.

Many Cowboys Skipping OTA's

Matt Mosley, ESPN - [Full Article]

For every NFL team, Organized Team Activities (OTA's) are voluntary. It seems several prominent Dallas Cowboys are taking the voluntary part seriously. Starting WEs Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn have not attended any of the OTA sessions this week. Safety Roy Williams, LB DeMarcus Ware, RB Julius Jones and NT Jason Ferguson were also among a group of players who missed at least one of the voluntary sessions.

I was going to say the time stamp can't be right for Dallas but noticed ESPN is the writer so EST might work. Can't find anything else...

EDIT: WE's.....I was looking to closely and missed the obvious.

OTAs doesn't need an apostrophe. As in WEs.[/schoolmarm]

Not mine, but, WE's edited to read: "wide receivers." Thanks for the heads up Perry147!!NOTE: The time stamp is always going to be Eastern time zone for all FBG news articles, no matter the source.

The apostrophe will remain in the title for now.

I am not complaining - It is a great service to have all this NFL news in one place. The news blogger is one of the best parts the FBG experience. Seriously you guys do a great job and are very under appreciated.I just saw it and thought it was a fun one.

I knew you were not complaining, and we do appreciate the heads-up. In fact, I had to read through the article a second time to catch it, because sometimes my mind already knows what it expects to see and then sees what it expects, even if it is actually incorrect.Yeah, it was a fun one. Thanks for the kudo's, as I'm sure all of us on the Goon Squad appreciate it. Honestly, this is my first month on the job here and I know the whole crew strives to put out top-notch articles. It's absolutely killing me that I'm the one who messed up yesterday. Still, I'm proud to be a part of your experience here at FBG.

If we are going to get anal, we're looking at a "double O" here...I slept at home last night, not a Holiday Inn.

He made an oops yesterday but I'd like to toss out there that Ruffrodys has been lights out for us through his first month on the job. He has taken on a number of shifts and his dedication to this gig is terrific.I wouldn't trade our team of reporters for anything. They're that good!

If spelling / grammar are the biggest complaints against you, you'll be fine.
