The Inauguration (1 Viewer)

Right, I think the dream outcome for the left is:

1) Gum up the works over the next two years in every possible way.  Force meaningless debates in the Senate.  Distract Trump with stupid controversies and personal slights.  Filibuster the Supreme Court nominee and any meaningful bills that come up.  Feed and encourage the Republican party's internal war.  It's a huge stretch but impeachment proceedings would be the icing on the cake -- it would cause delay, distraction, Republican conflict, distrust, etc.

2) Flip the House and/or Senate in 2018.  This is a really tall order.  I think the Senate is out of reach just because of the seats in play.  The House is a huge longshot but maybe it can happen if progressives get energized and conservatives/Trump fans are demoralized from a steady stream of negative news.

3) Win back White House in 2020, and ideally a whole lot of additional offices in federal and state government.  Start undoing whatever crap Trump managed to accomplish.
There is a fascinating possibility in the Senate - if everything else stayed the same but Flake were to lose in AZ (possible though unlikely) and Heller were to lose in NV (also possible) and the 84 year old Orrin Hatch were to retire or lose, Evan McMullin could very well win the Utah Senate seat as an Independent, setting up a caucus of 48 Democrats and 3 Independents (Sanders, King, McMullin) for a common anti-Trump agenda.

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Also, requiring 3 Independent members of the Senate to choose sides to make anything happen is a MUCH better start to a  method of reforming our system than electing a government that wants to tear the whole system down in my opinion.  I'm firmly in favor of Independent candidates.

Chances of this possibility seem extremely remote.  You didn't mention the many Democratic Senators that face very difficult reelection battles.  Even if McMullin won Utah and Dems won AZ and NV, the overwhelming likelihood is that Republicans still hold onto the Senate.

Sure. I did say "everything else stays the same."

I have no idea how much gerrymandering affects this fact these days, but historically the President's party loses 36 seats on average when they are below 50% approval.  Point being, I could see the House flip, though I wouldn't take that bet at this point.

Good to know, but it feels like the increased level of partisanship may diminish the usefulness of the historical data.  There just aren't that many competitive seats.

That is disgusting.

I thought it worthwhile to put in a plug from these nice people:

Listen, I get it. We are at a critical time in our nation's history. The division we see is real and it's an emotional time for all. But how can we channel our collective differences to make a positive impact?

At Travis Manion Foundation, our idea is simple but ambitious. We want to redefine America's national character. I was recently asked, "What's wrong with our national character?" The response I gave was this:

I envision an America that values character above all else. Where integrity is more important than celebrity. Where acts of service and kindness permeate the nightly news. Where communities unite together to raise each other up.

And we at the foundation are already making this happen. One kid, one person, one community at a time.

I believe this ugly incident involving Amy and me is one of those teachable moments that our entire country can learn from. The character of this country is, at the end of the day, defined by our differences. I have friends who I love dearly on both sides of the political aisle. Let's celebrate the differences that not only define us, but define what makes the United States of America the greatest country in the world.

Join our movement - united, with respect for all, let's redefine America's national character.

Lefty radicals
I'm just going to throw something up on the wall here:

- there are anarchists out there who are neither left nor right. Well, they're arguably extreme left, or arguably extreme right, or both if you view ideology as a circle. I think a lot of the violence at the inauguration was by leftists. But as discussed before when the riots/protests were going on in Baltimore, Ferguson and NYC, it's an open question who these people are and what they stand for, if anything (hello nihilism).

I would be willing to run against Flake. Will the FFA bankroll me?

(Pretty much no way a Democrat beats Flake in AZ.)

Probably true, but he'll be primaried because of his opposition to Trump. I can see AZ voters pulling Flake in exchange for a Trump supporter in the primaries, and that person getting shellacked by the Tucson resident/AZ Republic vote.

That's probably the only way. I wouldn't mind seeing Gabby Gifford's husband Astronaut Mark Kelly run.

I know this is being unrealistic, but wouldn't working together be more efficient for both sides than waiting till its "your turn" to drive?

Sorry, I just lost my head for a minute. I forgot that this is America now: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Let_That_Be_Your_Last_Battlefield_(episode)
When does the cycle end though? If you're a dem in congress you've seen the other side do it for 8 years. If you break the cycle how do you know they won't be the same next time the tables are turned?

Alot of those were illegals so they don't count.

What Trump won't admit is the majority were watching for the trainwreck factor, waiting for him to say or do something monumentally history making stupid.

Yes it is, but you had no issue with Trump's aggression towards the Khan family? Yeah, no hypocrisy here. :loco:
What gives you that idea?  I killed Trump for that.  I criticize Trump all the time.  I'm much more concerned with all the violence and incendiary rhetoric we keep seeing from the Left.

Rove I posted this response to you earlier but never got a response.

I mean what are we talking about here? The networks news outfits were obviously talking about tv ratings and then Spicer comes out like a Charles Dickens schoolmarm and scolds the press without explaining what the hell he was talking about. Its what 4 days later and you and I and everyone are still trying to divine what he was talking about or why he was so angry.

The reality is the goal was to paint the press as liars out the gate, which is pretty odd.

Right or wrong we kind of all agreed he was stupid to engage the Khan family

I don't recommend the ignore function often, and I have one person on ignore here, but I'd highly recommend putting @Rove! and his 10 aliai on ignore.  I could #### better logic, sans the peanuts.

Absolutely.  That pissed me off beyond belief.  I almost quit the Campaign when that happened.  And I lodged a formal complaint with the State Chair of the Trump Campaign about it.

And yet when Pat Smith got abused....crickets

That was a cheap shot.
Hell no.  I asked this guy in a civil manner to put me on ignore, as I was doing to him.  What kind of ##### continues to troll someone knowing that they have put him on ignore.  Here's a hint - it's the Dickinson kind.

What kind of, um, person continues to read posts from someone he has put on ignore? If he is continuing to troll you then you shouldn't be seeing them, unless others are quoting them and I would imagine that doesn't happen often (or at least it doesn't with those I have on ignore).

Ok, fair enough. I'll have to update my notebook. :P  We're seeing incendiary rhetoric from both sides. How'd we get to this #### show?

I'm on ignore, think about how amazing that is.
Not by me fella.  I disagree with you more than half the time but I love your posts. Keep being you.
Squisy has me on ignore because he was too afraid to admit he was wrong about something he thought I said.  So bump this, he's a terrible person, one of the worst people to ever post here.  He said he never wanted to meet any of us tools IRL, which is dumb.  I'd have a beer with @HellToupee in a second and have you over to share a fat chick.  We're not that different, but I'd save the dog FWIW.  ;)

I appreciate the sentiment Squisition, I really do.  Unfortunately the ignore function is imperfect and occasionally I still see this clown's postings.  Such is life in the big city.

Eh, I like to think that Squistion is a good person.  I've been awfully nice to him over the years but he has never reciprocated.  Yet I still respect his point of view nonetheless.

As for you and me sharing a fat chick I am totally down with that ####.  You know I like them bigguns.  I see you DD, and I get you.  You and me ever got together in Motown - forget about it.  I say me, you, Helltoupee and Squistion hook up for a weekend and get all sorts of ####### loose.
