Yo Sal! Why ain't ya got no pictures of Detroiters on your wall of fame?
Foster is 11 weeks younger than me. Not that I am obssessed or anything. She was 12 when they shot the film in 1975. She was 13 when the film released FEB 1976. She was 13 or 14 at the Oscars (which year? Not sure, on the street).Foster was 13 playing a 12 year old. Tim is a creep for saying that is "borderline"Looks like you are right about Foster - movie looked like it came out when she was 13. I just got the impression that she was 16+ playing a younger character for some reason.1. I don't have any record of JML as taking drugs. So Tremendous Upside is the judge for drugs unless I hear different. 2. Jodie Foster was borderline age for Taxi Driver (13 or 14?) I would allow it because she looked younger, but it's up to the judge.

i think this is an example of not knowing bc you either haven't spent much time there or have never been there. I don't want to spotlight but a surf movie in California can't take place on Coney Island just bc there is a beach. Maybe elements of DTRT could have happened elsewhere, but Spike captures the zeitgeist of Brooklyn during that time period. There is no way this could have taken place anywhere else. If it could have, it probably would have. And it didn't.I want to clarify that I think Do the Right Thing is a GREAT movie, one of the best of the last 30 years, and a great pick. My issue is with TU's criteria, which I think is too limiting. TU wants to penalize movies that, though they take place in New York, would be roughly the same if they took place somewhere else. Do The Right Thing, IMO, falls into that description.
But it DID happen. In Los Angeles. In 1992. I was there.i think this is an example of not knowing bc you either haven't spent much time there or have never been there.I don't want to spotlight but a surf movie in California can't take place on Coney Island just bc there is a beach. Tim, how much time have you spent in New York? In Brooklyn especially?

You one of them guys that think Trout had a better year than the Triple Crown winner? You ####ers with your east coast bias. You think that unless it happens back there, it didn't happen. That's why I have to put up with this crap that Bryce Harper is the equal of Mike Trout. What total bull####.
I don't think it. I know it.You one of them guys that think Trout had a better year than the Triple Crown winner? You ####ers with your east coast bias. No disagreement with anything you wrote here.No one is saying there weren't racial tensions in LA
DTRT is a quintessential New York story, with iconic NY imagery
Just because it doesn;t take place at the top of the Empire Statue of Liberty doesn't mean it could take place anywhere
From the brownstones to the pizza place to fashion (Spike's wearing a BROOKLYN Dodgers jersey), it is thoroughly NY
The fact that it speaks to universal themes doesn't make it less of a NY story, it makes it more of a great movie
That movie is so NYC.Great movie, BUT- Per your own criteria, this isn't such a good choice. Because the plot and theme of this film would work exactly the same in any large Northern urban area in which there is a sizeable African-American population. It would work in Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, etc. You could have the exact same story and pretty much the exact same movie. So I wrote up a whole big thing and then my router crashed and I lost it. In order to but hold anything up,Do The Right Thing: NY Movie
And I've spent about 30 mins in LA, driving from LAX to Union StationI don't think it. I had dinner in Brooklyn once. That's about it. I've been to Manhattan twice in my life.
It's the second best example in the category. That movie is so NYC.Great movie, BUT- Per your own criteria, this isn't such a good choice. Were you one of those ####ers on the news beating up on the truck driver? But it DID happen. In Los Angeles. In 1992. OK, I see I'm outvoted here. Oh well.
Who was it gave these guys their own category? You ####ers with your east coast bias. You think that unless it happens back there, it didn't happen. That's why I have to put up with this crap that Bryce Harper is the equal of Mike Trout. What total bull####.

Wow, what a play by Mister CIA there. Beats Usual21 to the pick by literally only seconds. That kind of flair for the dramatic is truly in the spirit of the category.2.25 -
Usual would've had it if he hadn't bothered with a write up2.25 -
Bullitt should get bonus points for being the first "best" car chase scene, but compare it what can be done now with car chases it comes off poorly. It definitely has a real vibe and is filmed beautifully, but if you put that car chase in a movie today, the action crowd would be bored by it.I wouldn't put it out of the top 6 though for its originality and without it we wouldn't have this category. A true trailblazing scene.I nearly passed on Bullitt because there's another one I like nearly as much and I'm thinking it will fall through the cracks.
he only seems to pop in for his pick and was skipped a bunch during the last draft. I'll be back at it at 8:00 am tomorrow if anyone wants to throw me a PMAny sign of Kumerica?![]()
This one starts off in aFar be it for me to be critical of drafts that people seem to enjoy, but you have "New York" and "Nazis" yet nothing about the west, Westerns, Texas, or the desert....? Has to have been an oversight.
