The closest comparison I can make to this is the tail end of Dennis Rodman's career. Both guys have/had noteworthy talent (moreso TO than Rodman) and both guys' antics escalated from merely being interesting guys early on in their careers to circus freaks afterwards who were hated by their teammates despite their on-field/court contributions. I fully expect to see TO doing WWF events in five years or so.

ESPN did a poll that stated something like 70% of the people polled thought that TO just wasn't worth the headache. I don't know how many thousands of people that 70% represents, but do you think TO sees that stat and says, "those 200K people don't know what they are talking about?"

Has anyone reported what Ron Jaworski said on COlin Cowherd this morning?

Apperantly Tuesday Night in team meetings, the OC Childress addressed Owens about something. Owens spat back "Don't talk to me unless I speak to you 1st". This set off a series of chain events. Now this story makes me believe Reid had to send him home. I have never seen anyone get sent home from Training Camp...they didn't send him home because he was working out on an adjacent field...I mean he was working not loafing about.

Jaws did say it is unconfirmed but a reliable source within the organization, frankly I don't see why he would lie.

1. Is this even worth repairing by the Eagles should it be true?

2. This could boil up during the regular season and TO has now become the last of the top5WR that I had in that pool/tier. In fact I almost find him not worth a high risk at this point.

This isn't getting much play MOP but I've heard it pretty consistently from several folks. At the very least, he was totally ignoring the coaches. The other clips that are now more relevant are Rosenhaus sayign a while back that Owens might have more leverage actually being in camp than he would holding out. Saying he was not happy and it was not a good thing to be around TO when he was not happy.

At this point, I wouldn't be shocked to see Owens not playing for the Eagles in week one. I really can't believe how far this saga has gone.

Steelers - No way Cowher would put up with TO. Also, I wonder if this mess actually helps Ward? All of Owens garbage may actually place more of a premium on a productive WR with character.Chargers - Why would the Eagles want Gates and LJ Smith and lose their best WR? Outside of eliminating a huge distraction, it doesn't really help them.

Browns - Its a reach, at best.

No team would give any of these players up for a headache like TO.You gotte remember. The 49ers got a 3rd round draft pick and Brandon Whiting (a DE who has a history of injury problems). No way the Eagles can expect as much let alone more for TO who not only had a serious injury last year but is also a year older.

Eagles' Reid: Need to work out issues with T.O.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Aug. 11, 2005) -- Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid called the ejection of Terrell Owens from training camp in-house business, adding the tempestuous wide receiver would not be permitted back to camp until the two of them fully discuss the problem.

Owens said he was just happy to have a week off.

"I'm going to work with T.O. and only T.O.," the Philadelphia Eagles coach said Aug. 11 in his first comments since Owens was sent home Aug. 10.

That was about all Reid said despite numerous questions on a variety of subjects about the playmaking, showboating Owens, who was asked to leave camp after a heated exchange with Reid.

Owens, meanwhile, emerged from his house in Moorestown, N.J., after noon on Aug. 11, signing autographs to the delight of several dozen fans who passed the time throwing footballs and yelling Eagles chants in his suburban cul de sac. Owens told reporters he had not spoken to the team.

"Why would I talk to them? They gave me a week off," he said.

When asked why he had the time off, Owens remained elusive.

"What do you think?" he said. "You are asking a dumb question right now."

Owens and agent Drew Rosenhaus -- who had arrived in midmorning -- departed for what the agent said was lunch and a meeting.

Suddenly, Owens pulling a Sharpie from his sock or posing on the Cowboys' star seems downright tame.

On Aug. 10, Owens told Comcast SportsNet that his ejection by Reid "was just a difference of opinion. I was defending myself."

Defending himself from what, it's not exactly clear.

Owens refused to say what the argument was about, and the Eagles issued only a brief statement saying Owens was not expected to return to the team until Aug. 17.

But this was the risk the Eagles were willing to take last year when they traded for Owens because they thought he could help them win a Super Bowl.

Now comes this.

For the fifth time in six days, Owens did not practice because of a groin injury suffered last week. Instead, he worked out with the assistant trainer for about 20 minutes, catching balls from a machine and doing some light running. He did not speak to reporters or acknowledge the fans who chanted his name.

Between sessions -- the Eagles had a special teams practice in the afternoon that Owens was not required to attend -- Owens and Reid started arguing during a meeting.

Reid asked the injured Owens to leave after their discussion, according to Rosenhaus, and Owens' publicist, Kim Etheredge.

Owens then got his belongings and cleared out of training camp at Lehigh University.

"If the truth needs to be told, then that's what I'll do," Owens said Aug. 10. "If he (Reid) wants me to be a man about it and have me really go on the air and really tell the people what happened, then I can. It was a difference of opinion."

With reporters camped on his lawn and helicopters hovering overhead while Owens played basketball and lifted weights, the circus scene only magnified the distraction Owens has become to the NFC champions. While Owens was an instant fan favorite last year for helping the Eagles reach the Super Bowl, he's caused constant headaches for management because of his demand for a new contract.

He also damaged his relationship with Donovan McNabb when he took a shot at the quarterback "who got tired in the Super Bowl."

Owens is unhappy the Eagles have refused to redo his contract as he enters the second season of a seven-year, $48.97 million deal. He hired Rosenhaus and threatened to skip camp completely. Instead, Owens reported, then injured his groin Aug. 4.

He was day to day and the injury wasn't considered serious.

Owens also skipped a scheduled autograph session with the rest of the Eagles' receivers after practice Aug. 10.

"He was unable to attend because he was injured," Etheredge said.

The Eagles still won't show Owens the money he desperately wants. They have, however, shown the All-Pro wide receiver the door.

Since arriving at Lehigh, Owens has been distant on the field with his teammates. After signing autographs and slapping hands with fans on a nearly daily basis last year, Owens has jogged on and off the practice field, barely acknowledging their chants and screams.

"Just because I don't talk to everybody, that's up to me," Owens said. "Everybody needs to understand the situation is all business, it's nothing personal. The situation is between me and management. They know what's going on.

"I think some people are kind of ticked off because I haven't really said much. They don't pay me to go in there and talk to everybody and be friendly to everybody. They paid me to play and they paid me to perform. That's what I've been going in there and doing."

Last season, Owens had 77 receptions for 1,200 yards and a franchise-record 14 touchdowns before severely injuring his ankle late in the season. He missed the final two regular-season games and the first two playoff games before returning for the Super Bowl, in which he had nine receptions for 122 yards.

The Eagles are looking more like the bad guys here than if TO had held out in the first place. Granted, TO still looks bad here...but at least some of the blame can be shared in this scenario.

Joe, I think this is the beginning of the end for him. How can the OC deal with him...he pulled this crap in SF with their OC...this guy just doesn't get it. I think we all felt he might have been underpaid...he had a shotty rep when he signed his last deal, but the fact is he still has a great life, and odds were he would get a new contract next year as the money increases drastically next season.TO has an awesome physique and should have endorsements out the wazoo, any health product would be wise to put him up as their poster boy, the man is simply ripped...he's vascular.

good points, ministry & joe...if the unsubstantiated (by eagles front office, at least) jaworski report is true that he snapped at the OC, i don't see any way they could bring him back... not a good precedent to show the rest of the team they would condone that level of insubordination. apologizing may not even be an option at this point... and that is about as likely as yanni making a mid-career move & shifting his music in the direction of heavy metal.

just a few days ago, the consensus was that the team would tolerate the headaches if it increased their chances of getting to super bowl... & they had too much veteran leadership to allow him to be a distraction.

we will soon see if things have escalated to the level where owens can force a trade by provoking the team... something short of punching reid in the face should do it.

arguing with coaches (if true?), he can't practice because his groin hurts but he can do situps & lift dumb bells in the driveway? he will keep pushing until he gets what he wants... a trade or release.

My point is, it's pretty clear that TO looks like a total tool to his team, coaching staff and the nation in general (at least those that watch ESPN and decided to vote in the poll). I'm just wondering if TO seeing that a few hundred thousand people see what kind of a tool he is, then maybe he will see it as a wake up call. I don't see that poll influencing what the Eagles do as an organization. I'm wondering if that overwhelming poll will influence what TO does. I'm guessing it won't.

I think his best move would be to hold a press conference tell everyone that he's had his head up his butt about this whole thing and that he will be in camp and perform to his fullest. After a few months of performing well for the Eagles and toeing the company line, I think he could start getting some endorsements.

But my guess is he'll keep saying that he's just doing his job which is to work hard at practice and in games. He'll gloss over the clause in his contract that says that he has to sign autographs like everyone else or any of the other mundane things that he and his teammates are required to do (e.g. post game interviews) and complain that he isn't paid to sign autographs or give interviews.

Reid said that it was an "in-house" dispute that led to Owens dismissal from camp

"I did send him home. He's expected to return next Wednesday," Reid said. "It's in-house business and it's going to stay in-house. I'll work it out with T.O. I'm not going to sit here and turn it into a bash session."

Owens had missed five practices in the last six days with an inflammed groin muscle. Owens did do some light running and catching with trainer Chris Peduzzi on a separate practice field Wednesday morning.

Reid said that he "OK'd" the workout, but Owens was still a day or two from returning to practice.

The players voiced their opinions on the T.O. situation. Defensive end Jevon Kearse played for the cameras and did sit-ups the same way Owens did Wednesday in front of his Moorestown, N.J. home for television reporters.

All joking aside, Kearse said that the team needs to get on the same page.

"In the back of our minds, we're still thinking of the concept of the team coming together - offense and defense. We have to be on the same page and right now we're not."

Owens came into camp unhappy with the seven-year, $49 million dollar contract signed last year. Reid said Thursday that he has not scheduled a meeting with Owens' agent Drew Rosenhaus and simply expects Owens to return to the team next Wednesday.

As for Owens' future with the Eagles, Reid gave the we'll wait-and-see approach.

"I'm not going to go into that right now," Reid said. "We'll see how time goes on."

I don't know. TO now admits the run-in with Childress and says he doesn't have to talk to him.

Terrell Owens today acknowledged that in addition to his argument with Head Coach Andy Reid yesterday, he also had a verbal exchange with Offensive Coordinator Brad Childress this week.

Owens emerged from his Moorestown home about 12:15 today and was met by reporters.

When asked about reports that he also had words with Childress on Tuesday, Owens said it was true. When asked if he told Childress not to speak to him unless Owens spoke to him first.

"Exactly," Owens said. "I did say that, I am an honest person. I did say that."

He said Childress was "he was antagonizing me. He was not talking to me in a business setting."

"I don't have to talk to everybody personally. I don't have to like everybody personally all they do is pay me to go in there and practice and do my job - go to meetings, treatment and that's what I have done."

Owens, his agent Drew Rosenhaus and two other men got into two cars and left the property for lunch. Rosenhaus was with his brother in his gold Trailblazer, Owens was in his green truck with an unidentified man.

Owens' mother and publicist arrived at 2:05 p.m. Owens returned from lunch at 2:10, played basketball, and then went into his house at 2:26.

Since April, Owens has been trying to renegotiate his seven-year, $49 million contract with the Eagles. He arrived unhappy at training camp at Lehigh University on Aug. 1 and yesterday he was dismissed from that camp after an argument with Head Coach Andy Reid.

Owens was given a one-week suspension and told to return next Wednesday.

Today at camp following morning practice, Reid said he dismissed Owens. Reid said that it was an "in-house" dispute that led to Owens being sent home.

"I did send him home. He's expected to return next Wednesday," Reid said. "It's in-house business and it's going to stay in-house. I'll work it out with T.O. I'm not going to sit here and turn it into a bash session."

I have never seen anyone get sent home from Training Camp...they didn't send him home because he was working out on an adjacent field...I mean he was working not loafing about.

Jaws did say it is unconfirmed but a reliable source within the organization, frankly I don't see why he would lie.

1. Is this even worth repairing by the Eagles should it be true?

2. This could boil up during the regular season and TO has now become the last of the top5WR that I had in that pool/tier. In fact I almost find him not worth a high risk at this point.

This isn't getting much play MOP but I've heard it pretty consistently from several folks. At the very least, he was totally ignoring the coaches. The other clips that are now more relevant are Rosenhaus sayign a while back that Owens might have more leverage actually being in camp than he would holding out. Saying he was not happy and it was not a good thing to be around TO when he was not happy.

It looks like Owens is seeing what he can do to force their hand. On the surface, it'll look like it's the Eagles acting. The Eagles send him home. The Eagles do this or that. But it's Owens driving their action. Very interesting.

T.O. admits Childress run-in; Reid: 'I'll work it out'

Terrell Owens today acknowledged that in addition to his argument with Head Coach Andy Reid yesterday, he also had a verbal exchange with Offensive Coordinator Brad Childress this week.

Owens emerged from his Moorestown home about 12:15 today and was met by reporters.

When asked about reports that he also had words with Childress on Tuesday, Owens said it was true. When asked if he told Childress not to speak to him unless Owens spoke to him first.

"Exactly," Owens said. "I did say that, I am an honest person. I did say that."

He said Childress was "he was antagonizing me. He was not talking to me in a business setting."

"I don't have to talk to everybody personally. I don't have to like everybody personally all they do is pay me to go in there and practice and do my job - go to meetings, treatment and that's what I have done."

Owens, his agent Drew Rosenhaus and two other men got into two cars and left the property for lunch. Rosenhaus was with his brother in his gold Trailblazer, Owens was in his green truck with an unidentified man.

Owens' mother and publicist arrived at 2:05 p.m. Owens returned from lunch at 2:10, played basketball, and then went into his house at 2:26.

Since April, Owens has been trying to renegotiate his seven-year, $49 million contract with the Eagles. He arrived unhappy at training camp at Lehigh University on Aug. 1 and yesterday he was dismissed from that camp after an argument with Head Coach Andy Reid.

Owens was given a one-week suspension and told to return next Wednesday.

Today at camp following morning practice, Reid said he dismissed Owens. Reid said that it was an "in-house" dispute that led to Owens being sent home.

"I did send him home. He's expected to return next Wednesday," Reid said. "It's in-house business and it's going to stay in-house. I'll work it out with T.O. I'm not going to sit here and turn it into a bash session."

BINGO! My thoughts exactly, and I've posted them and I got the preverbial BS emoticom from a staffer. This is indeed loaded with intrigue. The masses are too busy smashing T.O. this and T.O. that and are really failing to delve into the core concerns. I think the guy fancies himself an actor. All the world is his stage! Really probably less than 1/5th of what he says is true. The Eagles ought to invest some effort into a profiler and try to figure out which parts are true. If I had to guess, I think the guy really does care what people think.* Sure he wants more coin (so does everybody) it's possible the ego stroke and a smaller sum of shek back in February would have been the ideal PROACTIVE way to preempt this ordeal.

*I risked my career to come back for the Eagles Super Bowl (This is one of the genuine remarks...T.O. crying for an acolade.) Sounds like the plow-horse adminastrative assistant wanting a more sincere card on Secretaries Day.
